  • Dave Mowitz heads back to school, but it's not on the bus he remembers. The Braaten farm operation needed a service truck that could hold a shop's worth of tools plus a place to get in from the weather. The Braaten's invested in an old school bus for that vehicle to not only get a shop on wheels, but a mobile dining area as well.

A lot of Great Ideas are from Farmers. They’re sitting on a tractor always thinking of making the job easier

Awesome , makes my F 350 tool truck look a little weak . No better feeling than having a mobile well stocked shop .

Add "fuel" tanks off the frame underbody for bulk antifreeze, engine oil or hyd oil. We had the same set up at the school for a service vehicle. Watch the floors crossmembers for metal fatigue. Could even build in a porta poddy .

Pretty smart as old school buses can be had for little or nothing.

Somehow I can never find inexpensive busses. Usually someone wants to spend too much money on one just for the engine and transmission...
Pretty nice setup! Still room for more.... But no crane😪

Hell if a bus made the top shop list my shop should be even better. I'm not a farmer with a 12000 sf shop, but I'm a worker/garage door guy with a laid out shop with some nice touches.

Prices are sky high. People buy them now to convert to an RV. And some rival the best custom homes...

What I did to my vehicle years ago to rid myself of the compressor noise was to use an old a/c compressor attached to the engine to compress my air. On the way to a job my tank would be filled. Just a reminder I believe the older type a/c compressors from the 60's 70's and some 80's can be converted not the new.

York compressors are the most common used for onboard air, they have a separate oil reservoir instead of the oil being in the A/C coolant like newer compressors.

Great Idea!! The only thing that concerns me, it looks like with ALL of the heavy tools, and parts in the rear, and really only the open dining area in the front, that thing is really light on the front axle

Well Gawlee I sure glad yo spelling n grammarin dunned saved us from a feiry doom. And I actually keep one for in the field repairs. My 4 ton horizontal Cincinnati, 12’ bed LeBlond, and Bridgeport are a bit much to drag around. Oh, and I’m a machinist by trade with 27 years of experience. I think I can decide what is and isn’t garbage just fine.

He's sitting in the bus. His eyes are open.
"I think we broke down and put a TV in it too"
The TV is shown on camera as he speaks.
Does he have dementia? He is uncertain of the TV's presence?

handicap buses are decent if you aren't lifting a LOT of weight.
