I still can't forgive that "fake trailer" nonsense, but the movie has grown on me over the years. Kind of a bummer it was never released on Blu-ray to my knowledge.
Ah the nostalgia of this one. I was 15 and had never seen the original (despite many attempts, it was just never at any video stores around me) and saw the trailer and just knew it was for me. The only recent slasher we had gotten was House of Wax (another underrated 00’s slasher) so this was such a holiday treat. Saw it the day after Christmas ‘06 and had such a blast, will always love this movie, flaws and all. Years later I finally saw Black Christmas ‘74, and wow what a masterpiece. A yearly rewatch, but along with that I also watch the 2006 version. It may be a remake, but at least it’s a completely different story at its core and a great 2000s cast and a gory eye popping good time!! Thanks as always for the great slasher vids Mike!
Fun Fact : Did you know the actress that plays Billy mom in this movie plays Maurice the Orangutan in the planet of the apes trilogy. That’s how much of a good actress she is because I hated her character and found her character so disgusting in this movie but I love her in the planet of the apes.

This is an underrated gem. So fun and violent but GORGEOUSLY PHOTOGRAPHED. The lighting, camera work, certain angles really make this almost Argentoish in the way scenes are filmed with care. You can tell love was put into making this regardless of the finished product from studio interference
Agnes was a boy too, I'm not sure some people got that Touchy subject these days but yeah the mom wanted a daughter like the aunt in sleepaway camp. It is a wild movie
Something I find interesting about the _Black Christmas_ franchise is how all three Movies, while all still Horror, are different in terms of Sub-Genre and feeling. None of them are the same Movie. Even the original and this Remake, which are the closest in similarities, are different. So, because of this, it's a Horror franchise that can appeal to a majority of different types of Horror fans. 🙂
I remember being massively disappointed by this one when it originally dropped because it apparently has no use for the tension and atmosphere that make the '74 version so goddamned good. That said, it does feel like it's about due for a rewatch because as you noted, the gore is stellar and the tone is so batshit you can't help but get drawn in. And grievances about atmosphere aside, it at least TRIED to be another Black Christmas story, which is infinitely more than I can say about the 2019 version. (And if you did a review for that one I'm going to have to track it down because I don't remember seeing it at the time. Though to be fair I've worked hard to forget most everything about that flick.) Excellent work as always, Mike!

The 2019 black Xmas gets a bad rap but if it didn’t share the name of the original, I think people would like it more. It has great kills in it and just had a weird ending but still tolerable for me. I’ll take all 3 because I’m greedy like that. 😂

During the remake trend, it was easier for a studio to market something that's already an established franchise than it was to convince anyone to go see something new. At this point, everybody is burnt out and sick of them, so the trend has become the "requel": rebooting a franchise by basically remaking the original movie, then blending all the sequels together (Disney Star Wars, Blumhouse Halloween trilogy).
I do enjoy this one lol I have an interesting question....wtf happened with scenes from the Trailer ? lol You had someone being dragged through the snow, like getting wrapped up in lights. Someone falls off the roof. Michelle Tratchenburg has a shot gun...like that movie wouldve been a bit better....wtf? lol

I saw this once last year or two years ago I actually enjoyed it. Billy in this movie looks like Yellow Bastard from Sin City.
I find this one to be a fun wild ride, just a different direction than the OG, a crazy holiday slasher
