This video caused me to buy this jet. Dead stick, hitting a tree, rough landing, and little damage is a good selling point. The plane flies awesome to add to it all. It also shows up well even on an overcast day and doesn't seem to mind taking off down wind it has so much power. Great show Brian and "Camera Crew". ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I hear you Brian. It won't be the first time I flew a canard. I wish someone would make a F-106 Delta Dart. No canards but a super delta.
Say Brian...I also have this yet to. An it's taking everything I have to get everything working right, thanks for showing me the flap set up got that right now.. my only issue I'm having is the beap beap beap beap beap.. can tell me what that might be. Thanks for your great videos
sounds like a ghost plane love the sound I'm not good enough to fly this maybe some day Brian Great video camera crew spot on as usual thk for your time big smicker from Belfast
This jet looks so cool!! I really appreciate how you talk through how the jet behaves and what it feels like flying, it really helps in making the decision if this might be a good fit to purchase! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks for noticing Thomas! We're going to be doing another "re-review" of this soon with Reflex, and I hope it's easier to fly. I felt this was one of the weirder planes we've ever flown...the Kanards change things WAY more than I expected.
All these plane videos... If I wasn't saving, I'd buy this in a heartbeat and go broke for each video you do. Ever since I was a kid, I liked delta wing jets.
I just did the maiden on mine over the weekend. It lands slower and better without using the “flaps” those are actually speed breaks. We found that it took about 60% throttle to keep it on landing path with them deployed. We came in at 30% then dropped at about 3’ off and slowly flared. It landed best like that. It’s a super cool plane and fantastic review, I like yours because you even air you “woopsie’s” lol... Awesome flight/review/build Brian!!!!
Thanks! I agree, we have some "dialing" in to do...but that first flight, I couldn't get enough, and the RC god's about took back the plane - LOL!!!!!! As for the Ooopsies...I agree- man she's touchy for a narrow strip like mine, but keep in mind, I do really push it for real estate on some of these planes...at a normal field, I think a guy could get her down with a nice, pretty flare and NO flaps (breaks) like you mentioned. This pane LOOKS PERFECT in a high G turn nose toward the pilot...it is amazing!!!
I just got this plane. Thank you Brian your video was very helpful in setting her up. Had the same issue on landing. Tried landing it like all my other EDFs but approach was too fast. Next time I will be sure to get that nose way up and high alpha to slow it down.
This was a great review Brian as always! Camera crew is stone cold to sit there while you do passes between her and the house at 80mph! 😆 What an awesome looking plane with so much detail and the finish looks fantastic! FMS did a kickass job!
She is! Not sure you can tell, but when I setup the passes for tight places like that, I always make sure she's ready....and I make sure there's clearance...which is why sometimes you'll hear me asking questions. Like tonight, we were filming a flight (different plane) in like 20-35mph wind, and I was having her move quite a bit to keep safe, but I'm sure there will be some people who think I'm being pushy or rude but we just have to communicate at times...it can be a safety issue.
@@BrianPhillipsRC The Rafale appears to have a flat bottom (without the missiles and drop tank). It might be a perfect candidate for belly landing in grass. Use the "landing gear" as takeoff gear only ;)
You are correct. I have the DX9 and the NX10. The speaker on the NX seems a bit distorted over the DX and during a voice/vibrate warning, the NX voice is choppy. The DX doesn’t seem to have this issue.
The technology on the batteries is getting waaaaay better for sure. Its going to be really nice when we can get a EDF like this to be run for 10 minutes, thanks
You 2 have a great channel for finding your videos very user friendly, informative reviews and good fun my wife & I enjoy the puns thank's Brian & Megan great video FMS is making much better planes this will be my 1st 😉👍🛩
Thank you Tim, it's our pleasure! The FMS models have been great so far!!! I know it sounds silly, if you've watched out channel for any length of time, but we've been accused of "propping up" certain brands, and kinda trashing other brands...but when we compare them almost side by side, with maybe 2 to 3 days between our video production for us, in REAL time...it's hard not to notice the difference! This is a huge factor in what we share on our videos. This plane was definitely NOT a 5 minute build (which is totally ludicrous)...BUT WHO CARES!???!?!! This is still SOOOO fast compared to the "competitive" brands, and looks amazing, sounds cool, flies reasonably well (weird style of plane kinda adds a new element of fiddling - LOL). Anyway, my point is that we bring our real passion for this hobby, and our REAL frustration, where necessary...while trying to "be fair" to each plane...we're after all, equal opportunity offenders - LOL ;) - but you already know this!!! Thanks again for being here with us Tim, and helping us to enjoy some success here on our RUclips channel - we wouldn't have the channel if you weren't part of our amazing, supportive, fun audience!
@@BrianPhillipsRC it's our pleasure to surround ourselves with good honest funny people that play with adult toys lol 😆 oh wait radio control vehicle's & planes 😉👍
I like the questions from camera crew, very helpful for the newcomers. Also very brave. I would not feel safe standing out there with a jet flying 5 feet from my face at 100 mph.
That is one totally Awesome looking plane Brian. I envy you my friend you , you got some AWESOME toys... Thanks so much for sharing and all the time you and camera crew put into the hobby. You have a fan for life.... I'm looking forward for the Draco !!! : } I know you don't know me but I've watch so much of your video's you feel to me like family...
Sweet looking EDF! Isn't typical with EDFs, once you start to get into it times up! Once I ran out of juice on one of my P51's and almost landed on a roof but although the plane disappeared behind the building I kept on flying the thing by memory and got it down on it's feet on the other side.
Awesome jet and thank you for diving deeper into Forward Programming. I’ve installed and fully programmed 3 AR637T receivers and have seen the oscillations you described dialing up the aileron gains on the FMS 1400 Pitts in flight. I think I settled in at about 15%. Also, every one of my AR637Ts required a firmware update, and my early 637s required more than one. For that reason, I stick an extension servo lead into the bind/prog port on the receiver, especially when the receiver is stuck far back in the fuselage as it is in my FMS AvantiS V3. Maybe you could do a video regarding firmware updates on this receiver. Thanks again for the great videos.
I've never updated the firmware, so I'd be doing it for the first time ;) WELL...maybe I've done it once to an AR636B that I tried to update in an F-16 1.2m...
This plane is fun, but it is a bit strange to fly, so when you get it, plan on some practice. The Kanards make it somewhat squirrelly....but I've been told with practice, she's just as easy as any other EDF. Sure is a looker!!! Good luck Jeffrey!
Slight correction to your aerodynamics delta canards are a bit special and the Takeoff flap is not correct or needed. So you should not have flaps for take off and should not need them as it is a canard, go back to a 2 position up and landing (down). When you deploy you get ailerons up (crow) so the flap lift is negated by the aileron reflex destroying lift, so you just get more drag that helps for landing but not on takeoff. As it has canards once moving forward you can pitch aircraft up and the delta wing will generate enormous amounts of lift controlled by the angle of attack, you want more lift just pitch it higher. So in short take off no flap set, (ie no crow) and best for landing take as much flap (crow) as you can to slow it down. Great review keep up the good work
Thanks! I want to get our Second Thoughts Flights filmed, but I have a new toy coming to make this plane even more cool, and I'll tie that in too ;) Hope you'll check it out when it's released.
Thank you Brian ,thank you camera crew (exceptional). Listen please to an old man . The manoeuvre near to camera crew 😡😫. A must to add to my Edf collection. Your reviews are great to watch.
Hello, I have watched thousands of review videos and this is by far the best of them all. Excellent diction very well detailed and word speed is excellent. I really congratulate you. I may be too greedy, but I would like to taste what is simmering on the fire in this excellent melting pot, too bad we don't have the smell on the net LOL
Thanks so much Denis!!! Glad you enjoyed this review!!! I wish I were a better Rafale pilot, and they DO fly a lot different ;) As for the soup..or was it chicken...can't recall now, but whatever it was - it was GOOD!!!! ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC It makes me so happy to watch a video review when the person is competent. I see so many videos where people are talking nonsense. Yesterday I was watching a video where the guy explains how to adjust a carburetor on an HPV octane monster truck that runs on gasoline and not nitro. I was not nice to it because if people do what he says and explains they will definitely seize up their engines. same as I wrote to HPV because in their user's book they say the same way of adjusting the nitro engine carburetor for gasoline engines so... These carburettors are used on chainsaws as an example and any competent small engine mechanic could confirm this. It annoys me so much to read nonsense!! Once again congratulations to you.
Expensive but has everything you can think of on it. Made very well. For real confident pilots. Sounds like a jet. No more Christmas tree. I would have used the road.
If you look at how concord lands, she adopts high alpha to slow down. I expect the Rafael will land better under high alpha approach. She has canards which will keep the nose high. Have fun practicing.
@@BrianPhillipsRC It’s crazy how off the CG is on this one.. I had to move the front strap behind the aft one and now I’m only using the one I put farther back. Great flying once again Brian. Cheers 👍🏽
Hey Brian, I own this plane is I was rewatching the video. My understanding is the crow is for slowing down on the ground and not for flying. I don’t know to be honest but I never use it and mine if you get the nose high it will land real slow. Try a little more alpha flight next time you get this one out. It makes it so easy and it’s very kewl. Good flying though I don’t see how you do it with all the obstacles
The CROW on this plane is kinda useless, I've found, but would help on the ground, as you suggested. We did this plane with the Reflex V2, and it too flew well in high alpha, which is one of the best parts of flying this jet. You can land in a perfect flare, since it "relaxes" into high alpha, regardless of any pilot effort, beyond being patient ;) Cool plane, and worth a fly! That being said, I'm still a bigger fan of more "conventional" flying jets.
Did your Rafale come with the orange Reflex unit. The carton on mine says Reflex but no orange unit just the control box , way back in the fuse with 5 leads. And I watch your videos when you post them. Your videos are very good and informative.
Thanks! Not mine. I had a mixing board in it, but not the full blown Reflex, that I know of. If it was in there, I was unaware, I would be very embarrassed ;) I believe they will NOW start coming with them, but just double check when and if you follow our link, so you're not surprised. I'd fell really bad if you were expecting and didn't get it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your quick response. I suppose I purchased an earlier model with misleading info on the carton.keep posting your videos and thank your wife for being such an important part of the videos.
You can setup STATUS REPORTS. It's in the TELEMETRY AUDIO EVENTS...super easy to setup, but I loath that setting myself....and of course, you'll need the TELEMETRY option on the Rx / ESC of your choice ;)
That is the only receiver I use.. except for the one I put in my 90mm f15 😁.. That plane is awesome love the yellow you can see that from anywhere 🙄😳😁👍🏾
Hello Brain , Just getting in to RC planes , could you, or do you have a video on the smart battery,, explaining what the identification numbers mean on them, as in terms of what the numbers mean to time of usage and connector types vs what battery would be good for which electric motors and types of planes .. Just trying to understand what the marking on these battery mean. vs the size of Rc electric plane motors.. Thanks
Extreme nice jet, highly visible, not too fast and high maneuvering capabilities. Brian, I saw you took the AS3X receiver. Did you leave the internal Reflex gyro in the plane or did you take it out ? I am still puzzling, how AS3X/SAFE works with the internal board together and how the canards react.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian, Thanks for your quick reply. AS3X seems to work well. You also have a rescue function with SAFE. I think, that FMS made here a very good product.
I could if MotionRC would work with me, but unfortunately, they won't ;( I don't know why?!?! Maybe we're too honest and they have something to hide???
@@BrianPhillipsRC interesting point, tnx for replying and posting soo much awesome content. your videos def motivated me to get into flying side of RCing
It flies totally different than I'm used too... The flaps are more like CROW [AIR BREAKS], as you noticed from the first takeoff. I'd like a bit more deflection on the "Crow" breaking, to help slow her down a bit, and as for the strange pivot point, due to the CANARDS, it's just not like a delta wing, and not like an F14/F15/F16/F18/F22/F35/etc...that I've flown before. I want to say, it's like flying plane that's tail heavy, but it's NOT...it doesn't have the nasty tendency, BUT she'll flip on a dime!!! Also, she's not an amazing power-house, so you DO have to fly her. She's not lacking in power, such that you can't get some vertical, but she does keep you on your toes. As for ROLL authority - excellent! Even when you deploy the CROW BREAKS, she'll roll well. Yaw is fine, but noting special here. Elevator is NOT touchy - BUT SUPER responsive - this is the axis of control that makes it "weird" feeling. It's muted, then CRAZY. You can be going 100% full speed, and into a full on climb in about 10 feet of forward flight - something that would be dragged out for 3-4 times on the F-18 (80mm Blue Angle) or the F-16 (70mm Thunderbirds). When you mix these three controls into a well refined (or at least refineable - I'm still working on mine a bit) AS3X platform, it's cool, but different flight experience. Landings are every bit as sucky as the F-18/F-16 from the TIPSY-DIPSY standpoint, which plagues ALL tricycle jets...but tolerable - you just have to be lined up before that nose wheel hits the ground - I was NOT on either of my landings, as was very evident ;) Finally, she's NOT little, and not "light on her feet", but she's not "clunky" either...kinda like the F-18...she could use about 10-30% more power to REALLY get her moving, but she does well. I'd like to see about double the flight time, but that would require a smaller power system and DUAL...thus a totally different plane...and we'd loose the awesome 80mm sound. I feel like this is an area for future improvement that WILL be exploited by many, but not me. Looks are PERFECT. The Lights, Paint, Retracts, Canopy, Pilot, ALL NEAR PERFECTION!
That is one of the reason , I did not buy a rake for my yard and bought 3 more planes instead of the rake , because being part of the Marketing development I was involved in for 20 years that became 2 of the largest retail companies in the world. The Strickland effect as it is known was used in the rakes marketing. What the design of this is designed for is to take marketing, out of the hands of the reps or influencers in this industry as they are known and keeping the marketing in there control and cut expenses smart on their part. As a business, but not necessarily for the consumer or the influencers. To much to get into here, but that is what it looks like to me. So I will wait. Love the creator of the rake but believe there is more to picture than meets the eye. You do good work, I would hate to see it diminished over corporate greed, maybe I am wrong but it damn sure reminds me of a business direction I have seen before.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🧐🧐🤔🤔
I don't think that's what's happening here...but if it is, we will be more than a little bummed. This was just a special deal with the rake designer, and the rake junior mfg...this was a way for the original rake designer to get some money out of the design, rather than having royalties for the rake design that would have been paid for by all of the other landscapers out there.... Honestly, it was a bummer to us, but it's kinda out of our hands, and the rake designer is a great person, and the rake junior mfg is definitely doing what's right for everyone involved, except us - we're the only ones that loose on this deal, and we could probably make a stink about it. Since we don't really have a contract that precludes us from rake reviews, outside of a fairly standard nda for unreleased landscape equipment (if we know about shovels before they're released, we can't share about it...this rake IS released)...so, like I said, it was a request, not a "demand", but if the request were not honored by us, there would be other significant consequences for us... At the end of the day, we're in a great position, we have a great audience, and we love the rake designer and rake junior mfg we're working with, so it's just a necessary evil at this point.
I have this plane and I hate the FMS manual doesn't explain anything for system set up I love your channel it has saved my bacon plenty of times for my airplanes
Awesome! I was also a little disappointed in the lack of information on this in the manual, but NOT a little bit disappointed in the plane - it is AMAZING!!!
At the end??? There's a corner where the county wouldn't let us make the approach to the main road any wider, so it's gravel, and I make "poor man's" asphalt...by melting tons of foam on top the gravel. This leaves what looks like asphalt, but it's not quite as strong - LOL! But this serves two purposes...1) we gotta get rid of HUGE amounts of foam, and 2) we need to "Seal" that chunk of gravel to keep it from getting blown out ever time the deliver guys who don't give a crap coming up our driveway 3-5 times a day. Seems like the USPS, UPS, Fedex, DHL, Amazon is always bringing something! I think we get more deliveries than my work - LOL!!!!
How fast does it go ?? Is it faster than E-Flite F-18 80 mm .... ?? Rafale looks A TOTAL BLAST ! Awesome details ..... Love it .... ! Lisbon - Portugal
It is not as fast as it's piers, but it's more aerobatic, I believe. I'm not great at flying her, just an FYI...it does fly different, but very cool, and with some effort, I'll be enjoying it more and showing it off better ;)
I have a dx8e, and I’ve always wondered what the knob is for. The only thing that I could think of was that if someone wanted to precisely put down a different amount of flap input every time they fly. Do people even use the knob? Or is it typically not used for electric planes? Just curious.
Lots of people use the dial for stabilizer gains, and other features like light settings, and expo, etc...but for me, it's always been for stabilizer gains...since you want to be able to adjust it, but it's not SUPER easy to get to while in flight.
Looks like a very expensive hobby was thinking about getting into this but I think I will stick with archery instead . You guys make it look so easy I think this could become an addiction but keep the videos coming
It CAN be as expensive as you make it, just like Archery ;) I love it, and have loved other pursuits too....but this is different. It's a whole lifestyle. I love it.
Want to echo what Brian is saying here. I flew for a long time on a shoestring budget. (Like under $100 into a 600mm EPP wing, and under $100 for a radio) You don't need 80mm EDF jets to have fun.
Very detailed video! Nice job. Btw, Rafale is used by the French Navy it flies off their carriers. And FYI, (if it hasn't been said yet) it's pronounced Dassoe. (it's french so the L and T are silent)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Just thought you'd want to know. Since you are doing such a professional job, I don't mean this sarcastically. I think you're doing a great job .
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian. The larger battery will be nice to have once our flying season gets into full swing. Do you know if you can leave this type battery, LiIon, fully charged? If so it'd be nice to have the small one as a backup when going out to the club's flying field.

Brian, what is the difference between NX and DX? In your other videos you had a DX18. Is NX the new generation? I am confused a bit. Which one should I buy?
Yes, the NX is the new lineup that's replacing the previous DX lineup. At the moment, most all of the features of the NX can be accomplished using the DX, and many are still using them, but the support for software updates, such as the last one that allowed from FORWARD PROGRAMMING of the latest and greatest receivers would be, at best, in question, and at worst - gone. The NX has proven to be really good. The NX6 actually has 7 channels (Stupid marketing, if you ask me), while the NX8 will do about 99.9% of all the newest planes, and the NX10 is rarely in stock, and a lot more expensive for channels you probably won't need. I was running my DX18 for about 75-80 planes, and not sure if I ever when over 10 channels, and only 10 channels ONCE...it was almost always 6 or 7 channels, FYI....I did occasionally do 8 channels, and think I did 9 channels maybe once as well... Either way, they're good, and they've offered everything I wanted from the DX lineup, with much better screen and some annoying British woman squeezed in there for voice alerts - LOL ;) NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
That looks so awesome, love the livery. Now if there only was a similar jet with actually working canards aaand from my homecountry as a RC... and mabye with trustvectoring as a option, oh wait ;) (edit, oh the canards might be working on this too, if so, cool and mb..need to keep watching :) )
Setting up this model using just the sbus 1 connection on a Futaba R7008 receiver can you advise which channel the 3 position switch is assigned. Or if I go PWM as instructions and use channel 5 for sbus and 3 position switch can I use channel 6 for flaps and 7 for gear?
I'm sorry, but I have no idea. I've never done it myself, so I can't help you there. I'd like to try it, but don't have the expertise to make the suggestion.
Hey Brian I got a question I’ve been having the NX6 now for about a month and a half and I got everything programmed but one thing I cannot turn off safe select when I hit the switch 12 times it doesn’t respond or do anything to change that preferred switch that’s the only thing I don’t have working .I follow the lights on the remote when I’ll see where you go to get to that setting I rewind your video down 10 to 15 times before I can really see exactly where you’re going that’s the only thing that’s not working I have everything else programmed and ready to fly a night timber . No I have a problem with one of the servers it’s pulling the rotor all the way to the left and it stays there and just twitch do I have a burnt servo or did something else go wrong I don’t know man kind of confusing me now I thought I had everything going good LOL I’m learning takes more time Man I realize now I have to remember exactly where all my switches are without looking I have every thing butt reverse figure in my brain out I reversed too high one time that plane backed up backwards and was going to make a backwards flip before freakishlyLanded without any damage swulllllll wish I would’ve videoed it Maybe I have to use auxiliary RV or another one but like you said I have to really start over with a new program to get it right I’m on my 10th one It’s almost where I want 👍 once I get there I may be 3-D pilot for a short periods using safe no when you have a way out when you’re in 3-D just in case is awesome technology I love it good work Brine love watching you fly dude like that straight up roll backwards flip reverse however you do that that’s awesome I tried it once didn’t look like yours good job Camera crew your little comments remind me of my ex in a good way😆
Okay, here's the thing...RUDDER moves or not? If it moves with input, you might have another setting WRONG...you'll have to poke around. You can try another servo into the Rx...ANY servo and if it goes to the same relative position, you have a setting wrong, or a bad RX...but I DOUBT that highly. As for bad servo...if it's bad, it'll move to the left or right end stop and almost try to keep going, and you can grab the rudder and pull it straight...if so, you're gears are stripped out... Opt1) Tear out the Servo and replace it Opt2) Tear out the Servo and open it up and find and replace the stripped out gear. This is easier than it sounds, but it's still a huge PIA....watch my Horizon Hobby Spitfire 1.2m Unbox, Build, and Radio Setup series to see what I did (exactly to fix the servo) As for SAFE Select....I don't know if I keep answering this, or if the comment isn't going through or getting to you, or you're just not having luck with these steps (it's hard for me to keep comments straight...since there's hundreds of threads going at a given time....SORRY!!!) You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;) Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode. Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode. Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again. Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong... Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 5 Switch Down to Switch Up = 6 Switch Up to Switch Down = 7 Switch Down to Switch Up = 8 Switch Up to Switch Down = 9 Switch Down to Switch Up = 10 When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon... Switch Up to Switch Down = 0 Switch Down to Switch Up = 1 Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 2 Switch Down to Switch Up = 3 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 4 Switch Down to Switch Up = 5 ...pretty confusing, right??!?!? Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe. Good luck - you can do it!
@@BrianPhillipsRC appreciate all that information I’m absorbing as much as I could I’m going to get it right I’m just a little bit slow but I enjoy everything about RC hobby and not just a hobby everyone I came in touch with has such a great attitude and is willing to help me so much that’s amazing now I know I chose the right hobby like you say it is addicting I just ordered my third plane after everything happened to the last two they are just about ready to put up for show
It CAN. I think people had been claiming to use 7000mAh packs, but if you go bigger, the plane will get nose heavy, I'm afraid...so not sure how to deal with this issue.
We have one, Tower Hobbies bit.ly/2XqHt45 - world wide support. Sorry if this has gone unnoticed. Same company, but will drop ship anywhere. Thanks Kai!
This video caused me to buy this jet. Dead stick, hitting a tree, rough landing, and little damage is a good selling point. The plane flies awesome to add to it all. It also shows up well even on an overcast day and doesn't seem to mind taking off down wind it has so much power. Great show Brian and "Camera Crew". ;)
She's looker! I still kinda think it flies a bit "weird" but I've heard the canards just kinda make them feel a bit different.
Thanks! You'll get there. It's not too bad to fly, but gotta say, the delta configuration makes it fly sooooo different, not hard ;)
Thanks! Be smart and Save - Just don't forget to invest so you can buy MORE later ;)
The sound this jet makes is sooooo awesome!
TOTALLY AGREED!
Definitely getting this one. Also try out the FMS 70mm Avanti v3, you'll love it !!
I have the Avanti on my list, but not sure when it'll happen.
I really like the Rafael,, the paint really grows on you after awhile.
You should see it in person - it is fantastic!
I just got this plane. Thank you Brian your video was very helpful in setting her up. Had the same issue on landing. Tried landing it like all my other EDFs but approach was too fast. Next time I will be sure to get that nose way up and high alpha to slow it down.
Yes, it's a different plane to fly, that's for sure! Good luck on your future landings!!!
Finally someone pronouncing this plane correctly. The few videos I've watched seem to think this plane is a ninja turtle.
I only know because I was coached - LOL ;)
I love the sound of this bird .it amazes me you fly jets in your setting with your success rate . Amazing
Totally! Yeah, I started flying in fairly tight quarters, and I learned how to do it, but I definitely have my issues, especially around landings.
@@BrianPhillipsRC The Rafale appears to have a flat bottom (without the missiles and drop tank). It might be a perfect candidate for belly landing in grass. Use the "landing gear" as takeoff gear only ;)
Wow, thank you guys.
Thank you too!
Brian you never disappoint. Great Job! That's one tuff jet.
You got that right! She's amazing!
I have this bird bug been debating on the maiden. Glad you stepped up to the plate first.
It's a different plane, and with some more tweaks, I bet she'll be quite a bit better than I shared in this video!!!
Beautiful looking Jet ;-) Love the Paint Scheme on that one. See you in the Air!
Thanks a lot!
Also what's with the NX voice alerts? They sound super choppy. I don't recall the DX alerts being that bad sounding.
You are correct. I have the DX9 and the NX10. The speaker on the NX seems a bit distorted over the DX and during a voice/vibrate warning, the NX voice is choppy. The DX doesn’t seem to have this issue.
I can't say I have the basis for comparison...so I'll defer to you.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I ended up going with the IX12 for custom alerts and it's a lot less choppy, for sure.
The technology on the batteries is getting waaaaay better for sure. Its going to be really nice when we can get a EDF like this to be run for 10 minutes, thanks
Totally agreed! 10 minutes flight time will be super nice!
She's pretty amazing!
Hello à vous deux très bonne vidéo !!!! Très bien filmée et très bien expliquée ..... Superbe AVION !!!! Stéphane de FRANCE ....

Great video Brian and Meg
Nice jet Brian. Looks Awesome and flies awesome. Colors are great too. Great flying.
Glad you like it - I agree...she's a looker, even in person the details are sooo clean and good!
Thank you Brian! Such a nice model. Banana 🍌 yellow.

Thanks Johnny! We're very glad to have you along for this crazy ride we're on! Thanks!!!
Sweet looking EDF! Isn't typical with EDFs, once you start to get into it times up!
Once I ran out of juice on one of my P51's and almost landed on a roof but although the plane disappeared behind the building I kept on flying the thing by memory and got it down on it's feet on the other side.
Lucky guy! I had that happen with my UMX P-47 once - LOL!
such a sweet jet, looks awesome great vid.thx mark from the uk.
Thanks ;)
I have watched this video several times just to hear the sound it makes as it passes
Nice!
Mr. Bria, at 1:58:05 the lights are Great! 🙂
SUPER cool!
True - what a fun plane!
Yes the NX8 and Rafale. I've been waiting
AWESOME! Glad we could deliver what you ordered ;)
Brian very very good beautiful Jet congratulation...
It sure is! Thanks!!!
NICE NICE LOOKING PLANE SIR. GREAT REVIEW
Thank you kindly
Awesome jet! cant wait to get it, used the link
This plane is fun, but it is a bit strange to fly, so when you get it, plan on some practice. The Kanards make it somewhat squirrelly....but I've been told with practice, she's just as easy as any other EDF. Sure is a looker!!!
Good luck Jeffrey!
Fun! Given just like a proud father.
Yep!
I have been waiting for you to do this review! Mind boggling plane!
Is is beautiful, and needs a bit more adjustments on a calm, warm, afternoon ;)
Great review keep up the good work
Yep - agreed & spot on!!!
Thanks for this great info
Dude that jet looks freakn AWESOME! Great flying💯🔥🔥🔥🧈🧈🧈🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
It does fly well, and needs a bit more adjustments to make her as good as she can be!
Very good review
We get close to the action so you can enjoy it. Sorry if this upsets you...
Sorry you missed the point Brian.
Hope that you avoid serious injury during your demonstrations.
Great video Brian! If you come in high alpha it will land super slow and soft
After watching about 20 of these, I'm with the camera crew; he must want to crash these planes. Set a timer you will respect man! 😄Great channel.
The road has crown, so that causes it's own difficulties too...
If you look at how concord lands, she adopts high alpha to slow down. I expect the Rafael will land better under high alpha approach. She has canards which will keep the nose high.
Have fun practicing.
Yes!
Perks of having the own property. Practice makes perfect right? Cheers & thank you for the detailed video. 😃
Yes, one of the many perks!
@@BrianPhillipsRC It’s crazy how off the CG is on this one.. I had to move the front strap behind the aft one and now I’m only using the one I put farther back. Great flying once again Brian. Cheers 👍🏽
At moments I feared for the camera crew's life.
LOL - Very nice ;)
That maiden flight was just too Awesome, was wondering how you gona slow that thing down.. lol, Grate flying !!!!
I was also wondering the same thing - LOL - but I was so distracted by how fun it was to fly, that I almost forgot to make a plan to land!!!!
Nice video bro 😁😎💖
Thanks!
Did you assign the LED lights to a switch as mentioned on page 10?
NO!??!?! I didn't even know that could be done. I will have to look into it!!!
You can land in a perfect flare, since it "relaxes" into high alpha, regardless of any pilot effort, beyond being patient ;)
Cool plane, and worth a fly! That being said, I'm still a bigger fan of more "conventional" flying jets.
HI Brian, what a beautiful and awesome "French" airplane LOL thank for this video ! HI from france
Hello there!!! I KNEW I'd stir up some French people with my rude comments - LOL ;)
We're so glad you're with us philippe!!!
It dose sound so different from all the other jets that’s crazy wow.. I was right this post and missed the landing lol good recovery brother 😎🤩🥸
Thanks!!!
Will this jet work with as3x and safe rx? It seams it would just with canards in the place of elevators?
This is what we did in the video, Ronan ;)
Did your Rafale come with the orange Reflex unit. The carton on mine says Reflex but no orange unit just the control box , way back in the fuse with 5 leads. And I watch your videos when you post them. Your videos are very good and informative.
Thanks!
Not mine. I had a mixing board in it, but not the full blown Reflex, that I know of. If it was in there, I was unaware, I would be very embarrassed ;)
I believe they will NOW start coming with them, but just double check when and if you follow our link, so you're not surprised. I'd fell really bad if you were expecting and didn't get it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your quick response. I suppose I purchased an earlier model with misleading info on the carton.keep posting your videos and thank your wife for being such an important part of the videos.
Brian you have to show camera crew’s cook in that Dutch oven. If food is cooking within view, it’s a requirement. 🥘 😀

Hello Brian, have you found a way for the NX radio to read MHA on the battery? I'm trying to figure a way instead of using a timer.
YEAH, but the BLUE will disappear when flaring - so beware!!!
Thanks
I kinda have done this, and not too long ago... just Type SMART Liop's into the search on my channel, and you'll see my recent reviews.
Have they made a V2 of this plane? The one I got has a Ec5 connector inside, and a reflex system...
I think it is available now ;) Rafale bit.ly/3RiSeQO
Extreme nice jet, highly visible, not too fast and high maneuvering capabilities.
Brian, I saw you took the AS3X receiver. Did you leave the internal Reflex gyro in the plane or did you take it out ?
I am still puzzling, how AS3X/SAFE works with the internal board together and how the canards react.
I don't know if there's a Reflex Gyro in there at all. If there is, I'm not aware of it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian,
Thanks for your quick reply. AS3X seems to work well. You also have a rescue function with SAFE. I think, that FMS made here a very good product.
I like those tiny front wings
They are awesome (Canards)!
Brian can you fly a Gripen and tell me which one to get? lol I am bit torn but leaning hard towards JAS-39. Tnx for the super informative videos
How do you like it flies compare to the Eflite F16 70m?
Landings are every bit as sucky as the F-18/F-16 from the TIPSY-DIPSY standpoint, which plagues ALL tricycle jets...but tolerable - you just have to be lined up before that nose wheel hits the ground - I was NOT on either of my landings, as was very evident ;)
Finally, she's NOT little, and not "light on her feet", but she's not "clunky" either...kinda like the F-18...she could use about 10-30% more power to REALLY get her moving, but she does well.
Starlink, do an install video, pretty please :) Oh and fun tree skimming flight. lol
Thanks! We don't have Starlink YET, but we might do a video.
Ah Mr Brian can't wait to see The next Delta Ray.from Ohio.

Just wondering what happened to your driveway why is there a burn marks did something catch fire?
You are awesome
Thanks Sean!
Did you buy this house for the runway guys 😀😜👍🤘
What does the jacket say on the arm?
We build the house and the runway ;) It was all part of the very expensive plan ;)
The jacket says "Stay Inspired".
@@kleinbottled79 Very good advice -- there's nothing wrong with crawling before you jet - 🙂
Be like me and do both!!
Very detailed video! Nice job. Btw, Rafale is used by the French Navy it flies off their carriers. And FYI, (if it hasn't been said yet) it's pronounced Dassoe. (it's french so the L and T are silent)
Thanks - I'm not french, but I do like french-fries ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Just thought you'd want to know. Since you are doing such a professional job, I don't mean this sarcastically. I think you're doing a great job .
It will get in the air faster minus crow!! Agh it aint flaps!!! Also the new fms motor take about 10 flights to get really good!!
Nice!!! So they need the bearing to break in??? ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC no idea what it actually is... but all the fms units I have had as of late do this...
Brian, would you please give the link for the radio battery? Thanks.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian. The larger battery will be nice to have once our flying season gets into full swing.
Do you know if you can leave this type battery, LiIon, fully charged? If so it'd be nice to have the small one as a backup when going out to the club's flying field.
There's something ominous about that scream it makes, I like it. Nice flying Brian!
YEAH - I agree!
Waiting for you to get the Horizon Draco RC....

When are you going to review the NX10?
IF they decide to send one. They sent the NX6 and NX8. I LOVE both, and the 10 at this moment would be more than I need. I already have a DX18, if I NEED the extra channels.
would love to see all off your planes.

@@BrianPhillipsRC I understand the situation you are in. Really looking forward to that review.
Hi Brian, great videos! Can the ESC on this jet be programmed to do reverse thrust? Thanks.
Not without changing it out to Avian or another option with Thrust Reversing.
Either way, they're good, and they've offered everything I wanted from the DX lineup, with much better screen and some annoying British woman squeezed in there for voice alerts - LOL ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC That was really helpful! Thank you, my Friend! 👍
Yep, the Canards do work ;) Thrust vectoring would be cool too!
OK thanks Brian so can you tell me what receiver connections you used and did you connect the sbus\ PPM Lead?
Regards Trevor.
Wow that's one sexy bird Brian
Oh yeaaaaahhhhh!
Be careful ! FMS continues to sell models without Reflex. Check on the box that the Reflex v2 label is present. I got screwed.
Opt1) Tear out the Servo and replace it
Opt2) Tear out the Servo and open it up and find and replace the stripped out gear. This is easier than it sounds, but it's still a huge PIA....watch my Horizon Hobby Spitfire 1.2m Unbox, Build, and Radio Setup series to see what I did (exactly to fix the servo)
As for SAFE Select....I don't know if I keep answering this, or if the comment isn't going through or getting to you, or you're just not having luck with these steps (it's hard for me to keep comments straight...since there's hundreds of threads going at a given time....SORRY!!!)
You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON.
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
Good luck - you can do it!
