Love it. I will definitely be using this one. There are a couple of easy ways to remix this puzzle: It doesn't matter what the colors/gems/fruits/herbs/symbols are. As long as the clues are all present, it's fundamentally still the same puzzle. To expand the scope of the puzzle all over the dungeon, the clues could be anywhere, and not all together. Riddles/phrases can be incorporated into the clues. I can see this being particularly difficult if you swapped out colors for nature themes like weather/moon phases/plants/trees/leaves, etc. Something like "The crescent moon is always above the oak tree" would confound players to no end if they found the clue before the puzzle in some druid grove somewhere. To be really mean, hand your players a rubix cube and make them solve it to the correct configuration to unlock some awesome treasure.
I really like that nature theme and scattering clues to make a bit more difficult/involved, great ideas! And yep, that Rubik's is mean, lol. I was never able to solve the cube without my cheat-book, lol.
Like the herbs/veggies as alt for color blind. The go to I always like is combining shapes with color, as it is 2 points of reference. So you can use 3 shapes, since 9 slots, Triangle, Circle, Square, one each where they are solid, dotted and outlined. Fun logic puzzle, could see people struggling with it for a bit.

If you feel like taking a step up with the tile puzzle, you can make the room incredibly dark, this way only characters that DONT have dark vision can shine given that the ones that do only see in shades of gray. This can always be mitigated by just using a torch, but bringing a spotlight to characters that usually fall behind in dark enviroments
Ah, yes, I see where you are going with this. I love throwing color puzzles, clues, or messages at parties that rely on darkvision. They always forget that lighting a torch from time-to-time might reveal some interesting facts. Thank you for watching, cheers!
This is such a versatile puzzle and should allow players to collaborate (or not) as the situation requires. My ten year old really enjoyed solving it as well. I was thinking if you wanted to draw it out, you could scatter the clues, or somehow allow only certain characters (via languages or other means) to learn certain clues, forcing the player collaboration. Another interesting potential factor is if you present this on a horizontal surface, like the floor or a chest, is which direction maps to "above" or "left". Maybe they need to face the grid from the side, or you could always switch the clues to use cardinal directions "north" or "west".

ngl, if you have physical tiles you can play with its easier than his solution - you just pair up the tiles that pair together (all the ones that say above or below) then make little colour blocks using those and just shuffle them around as you fill in the other option. Still a great puzzle!
Yes it took me around 30s to do it all in my mind... maybe it could be more interesting if you use a 4x4 grid or different grid shapes? The problem is sometimes my players are experts in logic, and othertimes they're like idiots trying to row a boat in an open field, or jumping off roofs, or...
@@jerryjiles1837 30 seconds? That's impressive! It took me about 5 minutes, but, truth be told, I'm not too good at these type of puzzles. BTW... I love the "rowing a boat in an open field" reference. I may need to use that, lol. But, if players did struggle, I would probably allow an intelligence check for their character and then supply a clue by placing one of the color tiles in its correct position. @WallyDM it's good to see the hard way still, since it can help people see HOW to solve puzzles too which imo is just as fun as the puzzles themselves. And I definitely feel that comment about rowing a boat in an open field - sometimes the players are sharp as razors, and sometimes they're thick as a board!

Cool indeed... I like the idea of a forgetful wizard who's fed up of triggering the trap and leaves the note on a scrap of paper in his journal. Maybe with the line, _"blooming skeletons!!!"_ at the top, to foreshadow the penalty. Or maybe the wizard's colour blind and there's two tiles you have to guess 😅
i tried it, but the tile represent an event or location and with the puzzle complete its a prophecy of the end of the world. (end of world from the point of view of the monster in the cave and the prophecy point to the adventurer coming to kill them)
Really good logic puzzle! This one doesnt feel as straight forward as some logic puzzles do which is good cause sometimes my players figure these things out in 30 seconds. Im running a oneshot in the shadowfell and one of my players is colorblind so maybe i use a variation of the vegetable one
My group would give the puzzle a hard pass. Something about, "We are here to have fun, not do your programming logic homework." Seriously, I like this idea. However, it is not for the group I used to have.

I think the implication is that creatures without Darkvision don’t see any color but black? Not really useful for a color puzzle?
