God I just love the sound of our '16s. It sounds like a rabid dog I could listen to clips all day! Awesome tips too! I am going to have to test these out soon.
thanks man! they do sound good.
thumbs up for the ending!
Quality videos, Im currently looking for another car, and these SSs are priced really well right now. Your video have alot of useful tips also.
That ending is sweet!
glad you like it, thanks for the comment!
Sounds sweet Clayton! If you ever need someone to take some fly by vids let me know👍
heck yeah bud! thanks
I have the 2017 Camaro 1SS stock... in Track mode just punching the gas in automatic mode... I made a 4.2 (0 to 60). My times were 4.8, 4.5, 4.3, then a 4.2) and my car has 2,565 miles on it. I have the pictures to show if you want to see them. p.s i drove around for 45 mins to get my tires nice and warm.. it's February in Savannah, Ga and the outside temp was 72 degrees and I did it on the streets.
Good video man, helpful tips.
thanks man!
should be near 4 in cold weather
I wonder why the transmission short shifts 1st gear so much on the first run
not sure, maybe gm programmed it that way to avoid wheel spin.
Easier on the drive train.
What tires you running on the back I spin like crazy I cant get traction from a stop in first or second
Good one bro !
Looks like you have it down. My lexus was similar, had to push the paddle early for the computer to process to shift at redline.
hopefully dual clutches in more mainstream cars is not to far out.
Good stuff man, can't wait to get mine broken in
At least you are breaking yours in like you should. To may peeps just go out and hammer them when new. They aren't very smart.
I also use competitive mode as well I think it makes a huge difference. one question when you are reving up your car to 1800 and holding the break down at the same time and then releasing isn't that launch control I thought it was..lol
no to activate launch control you have to go into competitive mode them mash the brake really really hard then go full throttle while still hold the brake firmly. if it spins then you didn't push the brake hard enough. when you release the brake the car will take off without spinning much. can be fast sometimes.
+Clayton Yates oh okay that's exactly how I do it.
+Clayton Yates it takes a little Practice coming out that brake pedal to get the best time
dude, doesnt pushing brake and throttle both at once destroy your clutch if its not in the launch control?
very helpful tips much appreciated! when you say bring your rpm's up but your not using launch conrtol, are you just break boosting?
Thanks!! Yeah just power braking it but only about 1/8 throttle, if starts to spin slightly less is needed.
+Clayton Yates awesome thank you for the help. gave it a whirl today and actually worked pretty damn well!
I’m late af , but how do you set the Rpms ??
Hi Clayton. Love your channel. Quick one, where do you access the zero to 60 counter in the car
click left and under performance it will say 0-60 at the bottom and must be stopped to start or something like that in the middle or top, then once stopped it will say press select or sel to start.
how fast is 8 speed auto compared to 10 speed
I still fascinated with how the same car can vary so much in performance. People have gotten 3.8 before, but it seems like little more than luck.
Thomas May it all has to do with traction, tire temp, air temperature, I did a 3.6 once off Camara tho so it doesn't count haha
New subscriber great video!
Hey Clayton I got a new 2017 camaro A8 I barley have 300 miles on her and I don't go past 3k rpm. When do you think I can drive a little more aggressive?
Alonso Arellano oh man that would be a challenge for me. Motors should be broke it right from the factory or very shortly after. I left the car lot full throttle. Ask 10 people though and get 10 different answers so my honest advice is go 1k before getting on it full throttle if you can wait. On the same note I track and auto cross race my car a lot and the most common train of thought is to seat the rings hard right from the start if it's going to be raced.
Clayton Yates thanks man I really appreciate the response. Good channel btw
Hey Clayton sorry for the silly question but when u bring the rpm to 2k , are u stepping on The brake so the car won't go?
Alonso Arellano yes sir. Seems like 1500 to 1800 is about the limit before it starts spinning the rear tires.
Clayton Yates yes u are right. I tried doing that today and then I dump the gas pedal and my tires spin too much causing me to lose time. After u get it to 1800 rpm do you slowly depressed the accelerator or dump it to the floor quickly?
That's a good question because when I punch the gas it spins uncontrollably...i think you need to find that sweet spot where the car will launch and not spin
@@alonsoarellanocarryoptics no 3/4 don’t floor
What's the fastest 0-60 time you've managed to get? Although the inputs to shift might not be duel clutch fast, that transmission mechanically shifts very fast. Just listening to the exhaust clip at the end, pretty impressive.
3.9 but it was down hill and 65 degrees out so 4.0 is the fastest recorded on flat roads.
+Clayton Yates That's nice. How many miles are on the car?
+Tredts Sindrome almost 6k
Hey Clayton I came across this video noticed your oil psi was hitting near 80 psi at 75psi. SPIKES up for a second. Is this normal???? I have a RUclipsr channel as well and I have a Camaro ss like you and a corvette stingray. I’ve never noticed the corvette ever running that high your expertise would be appreciated can you give me a feedback on this matter thanks👍
Yes Mike it will increase with RPM. Also the colder the oil typically the higher the oil pressure will be. Once warmed up and the oil "thins" out some oil pressure will decrease. That's one reason why LS/LT Motors will actually make a little more power when warm
Clayton Yates thanks for your feedback on this. I’ve seen some others videos peaking out psi as well. Again thanks I JUST SUBSCRIBE AS WELL 👍
nice video but I do mine completely different than you and it comes out fine. I hit select first and then I rev up to the RPM's, my time doesn't start at all.
Are you in a 1SS? I'm thinking about getting the 1SS because I don't care for the other tech and leather seats; if you do have the 1SS, does it have the 0-60 (track apps?). I kept reading that only the 2SS has them unless your 1SS comes with some infotainment package...
Billy Bob Joe the 1ss still has all the "good" tech. the big screen and all that is the same, yes timers are there. it doesn't change trim ring colors or have a heads up display and a few other things but all the important stuff is there. one thing I wish it had is auto dimming rear view mirrors but with window tint that's not an issue. thanks for the question!
im just curious clayton i too have 1ss 2016, auto and when doing 0-60 time i cant get below 5.0 sec i live in Albuquerque NM , now i get tire temp traction of road etc..but is the elevation playing any part in the slower time? we are in spring time here and temp is 75 when doing these runs
James Gray elevation can make a huge difference. We are at 2400 ft here. be careful that the timer is not starting before starting the run. If it spins don't go full throttle till the end of first. paddle shift first to second then into drive to finish. It takes practice for me to get it below 4.5 ish. I've got 3.9 and 4.0 a few times but without more traction that feels like the limit for this car, or me anyways
Clayton Yates , thanks man ill give it a shot, i definitely am starting timer after revving to 1800 rpm, and yea for sure paddle shifting 1st-2nd ill try heating the tires up a bit but i think its for sure elevation, tips were super helpful
Mine is a manual trans so double pump and then dump the clutch . My lowest time is 3.7 seconds. Uphill
sweet let's see that video!
I use my Paul Walker edition 15 reverse gears transmission. It tops out at 160 until I get more NOS from my guy who only takes cash.
Bingo Bango be lets see a video the fastest an auto has hit is 3.8
Is that with traction control all the way off ? On my 15 1le ss u have to hold the traction control button down for 7 seconds then release and it comes up with the TC light and a yellow s light with a car symbol on it so 2 lights I'm not sure if it's differenton the 16s
doing something similar turns the stability control and traction control off so it's the same. but just like on your car it will still spin by just hitting it once but if it goes too sideways it will interfere. so it's the same but no need to turn it off completely unless wanting to do doughnuts or drift.
+Clayton Yates how do u take it completely off ?
+Clayton Yates ohh I c what your saying I was just wondering if that would make a difference cuz u wouldn't want it cutting fuel or anything to effect your zero to 60 time because u kno how some manufactures hide there fully off TC and it says that it's off but there's still a small amount on btw that was a quick response thanks lol
Ok, dumb question. During a steady cruise, on a flat road, say 70 mph....what kind of mileage can you get?
really good, I did a 50 mile loop to test best possible mileage and got 32
Clayton Yates DAMN
so can anybody tell me how to get the RPMs up to 1500 or 1800?
Try with competition mode 1500rpm lunch
Launch control not very good on these cars ! It definitely is best not to use & so far without it & preloading it is best so far almost down to 1.7 in 60 ft times at the track!
Leave it in 2nd, don't shift to third
Bravobraza what times do you get when doing that?
Tom Kirchhoff He probably gets 5 seconds
sadly all those nice RWD cars loose against modern AWD cars with less power in 0-60 times.
That little new AUDI TTRS with its 5cyl turbo and 400hp jumps in 3.6sec. from 0-62mph (0-100km/h). That´s the time which claim Chevy in their Z06 brochure with Z07 package and best tires.....with 650hp ! you cant launch so much hp well with only 1 axle and street legal tires. I think these RWD cars are good sporty GT cars but for competition and track the AWD´s with fast DCT´s have the advantage.
What happens after 60?
*****
after 60 you are able to catch him and be on par when your fucking 115mph speed limit slow you down.
we in germany pull them through the limits.
I'm not hating on the audi by any means. They're fantastic machines. I'm saying after that speed advantage of the AWD is gone in straight line acceleration. You're also comparing a car that will be twice the price. I don't even want to know what the cost to maintain that car will be. Not sure where you're getting the 115 number from.
*****
in germany the are near equal; perhaps TTRS is 10000 € more but that´s worth it ;-)
Yeah taxes and shipping screw with prices on both sides. I just picked up a 2ss for 36k USD. That and our fuel prices make it worth it on this side.
