Teacher here! We had D.E.A.R time every day when I taught elementary school in NE Ohio. Kindergarten through 8th grade, students were supposed to get 30 to 45 minutes of time to read a book of their choice. Usually, this is also when we had snack. Students were encouraged to also try out different genres of literature and collect at least 5 through the year. We also had D.E.A.W time wherein students had 30 minutes to work on their writing. That was a bit more structured; depending on your age and the time of the year, you might be working on a "How To" book, a narrative, an argumentative essay, a fairy tale, historical fiction, etc.

Teacher here! We had D.E.A.R time every day when I taught elementary school in NE Ohio. Kindergarten through 8th grade, students were supposed to get 30 to 45 minutes of time to read a book of their choice. Usually, this is also when we had snack. Students were encouraged to also try out different genres of literature and collect at least 5 through the year. We also had D.E.A.W time wherein students had 30 minutes to work on their writing. That was a bit more structured; depending on your age and the time of the year, you might be working on a "How To" book, a narrative, an argumentative essay, a fairy tale, historical fiction, etc.
I remember my class had a DEAR on school schedule when I was in 5th grade, they would dim the lights just enough and play music for focusing. Cool to hear that it's still a thing. Thank you for the share, hearing from perspectives like this is very interesting to me and I love to hear about these kind of situations.

I ordered a couple black t-shirts for work, but I loved them so much I wore them outside of work.
