Your final statement, about how war has no winners or losers, is the very reason why I love LOTR, both the books and the films. Tolkien had been in WWI and watched most of his friends die. And he wrote a story that said sometimes war is necessary, but make no mistake there is always a serious cost. You caught all of that in this video.

Romanticism...a beautiful cinematic montage...I grew up loving tales of kings, knights, warrior princesses and queens leading the charge against all comers and lone wolves who refused to give quarter...There was a time when leaders did lead their people into battle emphasizing the spirit of what a real leader was...nowadays the leaders and their daughters and sons stay well clear of the battlefield whilst sending us to do the dieing for them whilst they sip champagne...I get also that ancient warfare was bloody, brutal, and completely unforgiving (no paramedics, risks of being trampled to death...but the spirit of men and warrior women back then must have so dwarfed the spirit of modern man...still truth and honour are still sentiments I value, but I will die for my friends, my love, and my family, but never for a government or nowadays 'leader'...
That moment (3:42) when Serenata Immortale begins, and all the war cries is absolutely AMAZING!! I love the pre battle speeches and rally cries just as much as the actual battles! Not to mention, Serenata is one of my favorite epic songs.
