    Both excellent sound, I really like the 717e sound over the 814ce. I lean toward more bluegrass sound and the 717e. Fits that genre better.
    I’m a Taylor owner my self. They are awesome guitars

    Man they are both beautiful and both sound beautiful too but the brightness of the 814 does it for me personally. This video is right on time because I'm looking into retiring my old POS I've been banging on for years and that 814 will probably be the one.

    The 814 has a tighter sound from my point of view. Very sharp and bright. But honestly I really prefer the warmer tone from the 717. And it got more power I think. At least a little bit more volume. But both would be a dream to own. If only the money would fly to me. xDD

    The pacific definitely sounds fatter in the mids. Taylors classic sound is thin in the middle and depending on the woods flavors the highs and lows. I'm liking this new sound for Taylor. You can also hear the clarity of the V Bracing coming through. You can really hear the voicing in the first lick you played with each. Very nice Taylor, and thank you Marty for that demo.

    Liked them both, but for different reasons. Loved the dreadnought for strumming and that good ole bluesy feel. Loved the brightness of the cutaway for the picking and lead riffs. Send them both to me for a real detailed evaluation.

  • @joshnorko5586
    @joshnorko5586 5 лет назад +2

    They both sound great but I would have to go with the 717e, and I don't use the high frets on acoustic that much for the body to make too much of a difference

    Hello Marty, this is Marty. I too, like many of your followers, have learned a lot and can honestly say that I am much better at playing because of your videos. Your style is easy to follow and you are a natural at teaching 👏👏
    That said, a couple of us have noticed that this 717 is East Indian Rose back and sides and that’s where the deeper/warmer tones are coming from. I’m currently shopping for a 517 or 717 now and it’s important to find accurate information. Maybe you can amend this video with a text that states this?? The video made me question the woods and go back to verify.
    Anyway, I do enjoy your videos brother, keep up the good work!!

    I think the 717 Grand Pacific is Rosewood. The 517 is Mahogany.

  • @BarndtTom
    @BarndtTom 5 лет назад +1

    It's not Mahogany & Spruce as you say at 1:07, it's Indian Rosewood and Spruce. The 517 has Mahogany Back & Sides.

    717 for that bluesy, deeper voice, a little mellow. The 814 has a crisper, folkier sound. I prefer the bluesy, but love the cutaway shape.

    I like the 717e sound. 814 sound has more midtones of course it came from the structure of the body. But I think I'll go for the 717e.😊😊

    I prefer the 717e. It has a fuller sound to it; whereas, the 814ce - while it's nice - just sounds ever so tinny.

    Well, since you can't own too many guitars, I'm going to say they both sound perfect for whatever type of music you put into them. Hard to go wrong with a Taylor! I just got a PRS acoustic, way different than my Taylor, but great player.

  • @jamesyellow3786
    @jamesyellow3786 5 лет назад

    I have an acoustic without cut away, and since I write songs on the electric guitar the high frets on the acoustic became an issue. If I want to play some clean stuff. So I would definitely choose the 814. to be honest I can’t tell you the difference. The new guitar has new strings so it sounds more „steely“ and your „older“ one has surely a little bit older strings so .... I would go with the 814 e ....Have a great day 💪

    On the Grateful Dead sounding stuff at the beginning, the GP sounded better to my ears. The blues sounded better on the 814ce. I was surprised, because I'd have expected the opposite based on what I thought my preferences were. On the fingerstyle, I preferred the GP by a wide margin. Overall, the GP did it for me, but it was closer than I'd expected it to be.

    717e stands out as an unique guitar on its own. Great tonal quality. 814 is good as well and is crystal clear when played softly or with gusto. My preference: 717e. It has more character.

    I think your 814 has better note articulation, especially when flat picking. That said I do love the finger style sound on the 717. I have a 810 and use it for my flat picking, so maybe my ears are just “tuned” to that sound.
