  • The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a zoological park located southwest of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Cheyenne Mountain in the United States. At an elevation of 6,714 feet (2,046 m) above sea level, it is the highest zoo in America. The zoo covers 140 acres, 40 of which are in use. The zoo houses more than 750 animals, representing nearly 150 different species, with more than 30 endangered species.
    Exhibits
African Rift Valley is an African savanna themed exhibit containing African crowned cranes, African lions, African spurred tortoises, cattle egrets, Colobus monkeys, Grant's zebra, griffon vultures, helmeted guineafowl, meerkats, okapis, red river hogs, reticulated giraffe, and rock hyrax. African Rift Valley cost $11 million to build.
Encounter Africa opened at a cost of $13.5 million. The Encounter Africa exhibit is home to African cape porcupines, African elephants, black rhinoceros, and meerkats. The exhibit received special recognition at the 2014 AZA Honors and Awards event.
Australia Walkabout: This exhibit contains a walk-through red-necked wallaby yard, a budgie aviary, emus, American alligators, shelducks, White's tree frogs, Matschie's tree kangaroo, and other species.
Scutes Family Gallery was originally built in the early 1940s and formally known as the Bird and Reptile House. It contains over 40 species of reptiles including Burmese pythons, lizards, snakes, tortoises and turtles. The name refers to the scutes, or scales that are on most reptiles. Funding for the renovation came from the $13.5 million campaign for the Encounter Africa exhibit.
Bear Grottos: Asiatic black and Spectacled bears.
The Loft: An educational exhibit building that houses American beavers, black-footed ferrets, chinchillas, eclectus parrots, lizards, prairie dogs, ravens, skunks, snakes, three-banded armadillos, tortoises, and Wyoming toads.
Monkey Pavilion: Originally opened in 1942 to house big cats, the building now exhibits smaller primate species including lar gibbons, white-cheeked gibbons, ring-tailed lemurs, Geoffroy's marmosets, Hoffman's two-toed sloths, black howler monkeys, black mangabeys, black and white ruffed lemurs, brown-nosed coatis, white-nosed coatis, Goeldi's monkeys, and Wolf's guenons. On 20 September 2020, the Zoo announced plans to demolish the pavilion.
Tapir Exhibit: A new tapir exhibit opened in 2015 after the zoo's mountain tapirs were living in an off-exhibit area since 2012 due to the construction of Encounter Africa. Cheyenne Mountain and the Los Angeles Zoo are the only two zoos in the United States to exhibit mountain tapirs.
My Big Backyard: Chickens, rabbits, koi, amphibians, tortoises, and invertebrates are exhibited here.
Asian Highlands exhibits Amur tigers, Amur leopards, snow leopards, and Pallas' cats in naturalistic habitats on the zoo's mountain side.
Rocky Mountain Wild: Costing the zoo $8.2 million, Rocky Mountain Wild houses bald eagles, Canadian lynx, Greenback cutthroat trout, Grizzly bears, Merganser ducks, Mexican wolves, moose, cougars, porcupines, river otters, rainbow trout, and Rio Grande turkeys.
Primate World: Primate World contains apes and other animals. Sumatran and Bornean orangutans, Western lowland gorillas, siamangs, and naked mole rats are exhibited.
    Rocky Cliffs: Rocky Mountain goats.
Water's Edge: Africa: This new exhibit houses Nile hippopotamuses, African penguins, and other species. The exhibit opened in 2020.

    Hey Tom!
The second part of this Zoo did not disappoint, some very cool species at this Zoo. Some of my favourites: The mountain Tapir, the Western Low Land Gorilla Troop (i have a timestamp for them later), the snow leopard (it was the snow leopard you saw, not the Amur leopard, again time stamp later), and the tiger. Some of these are from part 1, but hey at the end of the day, it`s the same Zoo. This Zoo absolutely outdid themselves. All of the animals here are extremely lucky to be here, hey beats being killed illegally by poachers right? Some of your jokes at this Zoo (Part 1 mostly but also Part 2) were just hilarious but also so dumb that i face-palmed and said to myself: He did not just say that in public...
Now, time stamps (not nearly as many as Part 1 LOL!:
0:34: indeed we did Tom! Beautiful animals, specially adapted for life in the mountains.
1:15: cute little guys. The one is in the process of moulting.
2:30: Allow me to offer my penguin expertise, Tom. The last one is the Little Blue Penguin.
2:44: Asking honestly because i don`t know here Tom: How does penguin smell?
4:52: I`m assuming you didn`t notice it since you didn`t address it. There`s a hippo in the water, bottom right.
5:09: One of my favourite African animals and animals as a whole. Even though they are herbivores, they are considered the most dangerous animal in Africa, makes lions look like tabby cats. If you get in a bull hippo`s territory with all his females, you best get out of his river, you do not want to piss off a bull hippo.
9:20: They`re so much like us, it`s crazy isn`t it, Tom? They share 97% of DNA with humans.
10:42: This was very interesting to read and it makes sense!
11:02: Now THAT is a gorilla habitat! One of the best i`ve ever seen!
11:58: Correct Tom. All Gorillas in US Zoos are Western Lowland Gorillas, with the exception of one female Eastern Lowland Gorilla. But there are currently no mountain gorillas in the US. That being said, i`ve watched documentaries on mountain gorillas in the wild and they are quite the sight to behold, let`s just say that.
12:37: They are so cute! Something i never had was guinea pigs, although i`ve had hamsters and rabbits. My current rabbit, Gizmo, is an absolute sweetheart, loves to be cuddled. He`s a mix between a lionmane rabbit and a netherlands dwarf rabbit, according to the breeder anyway. I`ll never forget the first time my dogs saw him. He was having time out of his cage (which btw is basically all day, he`s only in his cage at night and when we are not home) and my two dogs came over and stated sniffing him. Gizmo stands up on his hind legs and lets out a yelp/shriek. It scared my dogs so much, they ran to the kitchen, slipping and sliding on the wooden floor. At one point, my bigger dog, Sony (half lab half shepard), all of her legs gave out she was running so fast and it was really funny watching her try to get up again. The other dog is a yorkie, Mia. We could hear them whining and whimpering from the kitchen, they did not come back until Gizmo went back in his cage. It was hilarious, Tom🤣😂🤣😂!
12:58: Go Tom!! I was smiling throughout this part of the video, especially when you squeezed through the trees lol, i laughed.
14:20: A zebra and warthog butt is one thing, but a hippo butt is a whole other ball game Tom. You have a thing for butts eh Tom? I may or may not be getting revenge for the mice thing.
16:38: Only two Zoos in the US has this species! The other tapir you mentioned is the Malaysian Tapir.
17:32: LMFAO i love it, the peacock garden.
    -Tom 2022.
18:40: I`m sorry to hear you lost it, Tom! On the bright side: no difference in the audio.
19:32: Yay otters! Always so fun to watch the otters eh, Tom?
19:59: Great shot Tom, wonderful animal! So sad that some people would rather wear the animal than enjoy the animal...
20:58: This the snow leopard Tom. Amur leopards are much more golden in colour and black/gold spots. That`s ok, that`s what people like me are here for, to help you.
23:07: Grizzly play can be very rough, very rough indeed.
24:12: Shame these guys have such a short lifespan (2-4 years, as stated on the signage), they`re beautiful animals. Hutch is a good name. He can`t have been at the Zoo that long, given his species lifespan.
27:42: Beavers are such cool animals. I see them from time to time, mostly in summer but i`ve seen them a few times in the winter. I don`t see them nearly as often as black bear and moose though.
28:08: I`m cringing so hard just looking at it. It`s only a matter of time now, Noah...
28:23: I tell you what, that bay does not look very old! We got the whole family here!
29:17: Wasn`t expecting to see this handsome dude! As well as some other bird species.
Great video Tom, that`s all for time stamps, have a good one, take care, and i`m looking forward to your reply!

@Noah Roy This was my 2nd favorite zoo from this roadtrip. This zoo was the main reason I came to Colorado during this trip.
The Mountain Goats are such neat looking animals, all soft and fuzzy. This was only the 2nd time I've seen this type of goat.
I initially thought the one penguin was a youngster but then remembered that they mult all their feathers each year. Never git to see penguin up so close before this. Penguins have a very pungent smell, imagine a dead fish backing in the sun 😩
The Hippocampus are some cool animals. I've seen video of them messing up some other animals, so yeah, extremely dangerous. The baby was absolutely adorable though. 🤗
The Gorillas have an amazing habitat, lots of space inside and outside. In fact I was a bit surprised none of them choose to be outside. I always mention, it's their choice.
That obstacle course wouldn't have been an issue maybe 10 years ago 😀 I'm also guessing this is where I lost my microphone windsock, most likely some kid found it and kept it or it got thrown away.
Sooo many Peacocks 😬 What a lovely garden they make.
I was so glad I finally got to see the otter, such cute animals and a joy to watch them playing. They had a great habitat with loys of stuff to play on and plenty of water too.
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has so many magnificent habitats, the Tigers was fantastic. She looked so comfortable laying in the grass. I really hate poachers Noah, killing these beautiful animals for greed. 😠
The Grizzly Bears we're having fun play fighting, so glad I got the chance to see them.
There was a young opossum that used to come and eat with the cats each night. This was years ago bit he would be right next to the cats eating. Some people think they are ugly, my guess because of their rat like tails. I'm sure if they we're fuzzy like a squirrel, everyone would love them.
Beaver are another animals I love to watch. Seen them at many different zoo's and a few aquarium. So glad I finally saw this one.
Ah yes Noah, Snow, beautiful fluffy snow. I'm actually glad I don't have to deal with snow in Florida. It's nice when your a kid but then it is nothing but trouble when your older.
The Yellow Crowned Crane was a surprise for me as well. I was looking fir the elucid warthog when I spotted the crane.
Thanks for all the timestamps Noah. Glad you enjoyed the zoo, I certainly enjoyed my visit.

@@TomsRoadTrippin Yeah man, this was a fantastic Zoo Tom. Btw: You wrote hippocampus instead of hippopotamus.
So that`s how penguins smell eh? Does not sound pleasant.
All poachers need life in prison with only the bare necessities for life. I DESPISE Poachers, i hate them, they need to go burn in hell. Know what i mean Tom? It`s all greed, all for money.
I find opossums to be super cute! Thanks for that little story, Tom. I used to love winter as a child but it brings nothing but trouble now, you`re right on that front Tom. Every year, my area gets 1 or 2 really big storms and we get 45-60cm of snow, it is not fun to shovel, hell sometimes even the snowblower struggles with that amount. I must say so many cuss words to mother nature, but i won`t say here? Why? Well, i`d be here for hours and not the best place to say them, even censored.
Of course Tom, my favourite part of writing my comments (specifically referring to my comments on your channel here) is writing about different moments and giving you facts, corrections etc with time stamps! Do i go overboard sometimes and need a second comment. Yes. Do i care? No. Do you care? Based on your replies, no.
Looking forward to your reply on Part 1. I should be finished Pueblo Zoo today (since it`s technically Wednesday, it`s 12:22AM right now).
      Talk to ya then, Tom.
