Hey All.... Just wanted to clarify that I paid £449 / US$600 for this guitar (although now listed at £489 / US$650) against the £299 / US$400 I paid for the tobacco burst... so personally I think the extra £150 / US$200 is justified by the case, collectibility, cool colour, and fatter neck. But that's just me... you may not agree! Also the good news is the hard case turned up in time for the thumbnail shoot. Hope you like this weeks film let me know!! Cheers, Col.

1977. We're busting our a@@es trying to learn complex chords and fingerings and a friend throws this on his turntable and were like "WTF????!!! How is THIS Popular?! They are playing 4 cowboy chords!!" But we were playing that album before the year was out..just took a while to get the message as we were not UK Citizens :) God Bless The Queen..She Ain't No Human Being!!

Great video! You always review the most interesting guitars! I got mine yesterday and is a wonderful guitar. I'm lucky enough to have two Gibsons, and this doesn't feel inferior or anything like that, it feels premium and is just great. I also can't believe the price they are selling these for, including the case which looks stunning.

Love your reviews and have become a regular over the past few weeks. Also, love your playing - very real world and authentic....and being an old punk, love your choice of tunes...being a massive MIJ Tokai fan would love to see you review some Japanese brands such as Tokai, Bacchus, Navigator, etc...keep on the fantastic reviews...the only downside is that they make me want to spend money I haven't got!

Hey Colin, great post as usual. I got the chance to play the Billie Joe guitar in a shop today. I was well impressed with everything about it, I couldn't put it down. Very playable and the sound is off the chart. Great choice of tunes to play, great post, thanks again, take care.

Oh yes this is not going anywhere!.... I know the BJA connection divides opinion, but (and no disrespect to Billie) I am happy to look beyond that and I really like this guitar for what it plays and sounds like. Cheers man!
@@theguitaristas sure that's the way it should be IMO. The BJA name is mainly a way to attract fans and raise sales as with all these signature guitars, so why take it too seriously? 😉
After watching your review I just bought one of these and I have to say that it is a brilliant guitar :)
Been using the same locking technique for strings as you demonstrated in the vid. Has worked very well for me over the years. The guitar and case here in Canada comes in at $729 (CAD) with the hard shell case. There is another option available the has a 15 watt amp, gig bag, a cord, picks and a tuner for $539 Canadian dollars. Another super vid. Cheers from Canada.
People beware though that the amp pack one comes with bolt on neck... they don’t make that clear but it should be obvious that it’s not the same guitar at all. Cheers!
Love watching you play! Pistols, Only Ones, The Damned, The Jam, the Clash... We grew up at the right time. Good for Green Day for keeping a friendly version around for the kids. Definitely want this guitar! Would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between this and the Gibson! 🙏

I own a HT1R combo and it does pack some nice tones - through a bigger cab it's even more fun. Now pondering the Studio 6L6...

I really like your reviews on single pickup guitars. It got me to order the Harley Benton-Junior in Metalic Blue. There is something about the simplicity and the sound of those LP and DC style single pickup rigs. I might just get that LP style one day.
Colin as usual a great review, I’m waiting for mine won’t have it till September, as well as the deep metal flake blue 60th anniversary DanElectro. Epihone has been knocking out of the Park lately. They are really a great bargain for what your getting.
A wonderful way to start my busy Friday with a Hot good cup of coffee & another unbiased, honest review of a great affordable sound guitar. Wonder how good or not it would sound with a set of Billy Gibbons 07/38 strings? For the past few years Epiphone have step up their game & being delivering very fine guitars, got myself a Korina wood Flying V and is just amazing looks & sound. 🎸👍

I have just bought this guitar on your recommendation and you are right. It sounds huge. Having been used to Gibson's l was nervous about trying an Epiphone but the quality is brilliant. Your channel is the best guitar one on RUclips.

You cannot beat a LPJ for some fun playing! I got the HB LPJ FAT.... Firstly, yeah, its a "cheap" but beautifully put together. Plays like a dream and deepely regret not getting a LPJ years ago ;-) Great video as always! :-)

Nice thorough and detailed review. I got one of these a few months ago, traded an Epiphone “custom shop” 57 RI. I’m digging the Billy Joe version more, mainly because of the thicker neck and the CTS pots.
Thanks for your review- it helped me decide to buy one! A little bit of typical Epiphone QC trouble- 2 high frets, but an easy fix, and I love it. Just as solid a player as my Gibson LP Special.

Excellent review. I just received this guitar this week also. I have a question for you, do you notice that the pick up is farther away from the strings? I noticed this on my Sunburst also. I have the TV yellow and the pick ups are nice and close to the strings.
Funny I noticed that today...yes just a bit, maybe not enough to make it a design thing as such but it might be? I shall do a comparison with the others and we'll measure this. Cheers man!

always loved Juniors. I like that P90 sound. Roars. I saw one of these used recently at a decent used price. I might pick one up.

I was fortunate enough to discover Green Day my junior year of high school several years before they became super stars. I've always loved punk and the pop punk scene was a huge influence in my musical career. Thanks so much for the great review of what appears to be a great guitar. Man I loved that Ramble On bit. Recently got into Juniors. I just got an ebony Gibson Les Paul Junior, liked it a lot after watching your video, and decided to try one for myself. Fantastic guitar. I hope they took good care of the issue with the scratches that were on yours and gave you a discount or small refund, either way it’s a fantastic sounding guitar, as is this BJA signature.
Cheers man, they begrudgingly offered a refund for the scratched junior but only if I took the video down. That would have been pointless and I like the guitar so I said no and kept it... the film remains as a cautionary tale! Glad you got one and glad it’s not scratched proving again mine was not normal! 🤷♂️ as you say it sounds fantastic as does this one. Thanks for support as always it’s appreciated! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas Wow, that doesn’t reflect well on the dealer. But it’s good you kept the video up, since others will know to be careful of that shop. And it really is a great sounding junior regardless, I really enjoyed the loops and playing demo you did with it. For sure the scratches are not normal Gibson QC, the dealer was wrong to shrug it off as normal. Of course! Always look forward to your uploads, great way to start the weekend.

Damnit man! That's a super stripped down LP with the right stuff! You can get a wide range of tones from one P90 and two pots. Great playing too! I survived the 70's and was happily surprised when my girlfriend's little brother talked me into seeing Green Day in New Orleans in '94! Punk Lives On!
Great review as always, it’s very difficult to find one of those in stock anywhere at the moment, but apart from the association and the slightly fatter neck, the regular tobacco burst junior can be picked up for under £200 which is a total bargain in my opinion.

I have to tell you, when I saw that Epiphone had made a signature series for Billie Joe Armstrong, I thought it was a waste of good materials that could've been used for a proper Les Paul or SG considering how bad stock is worldwide, or at least here in the USA. I've always hated Green Day... Anyway, enough of that. You made it sound pretty good!
I always enjoy the lessons you give when you take the guitars apart, re-string them, set them up and the like. Have a good one!

Super impressed Epiphone are doing signature guitars. These things will sell like crazy, like the Squire J Mascis Jazzmaster. And the LP Jnr is simply one of the coolest guitars ever.
Cheers Leo, yes couldn't agree more... these are great affordable guitars an I think make much more sense (to normal people) than those high end high dollar Gibson versions. I think the LP Junior might even be THE coolest guitar ever??

Great review, appreciate your opinions. I just purchased the standard tobacco burst and really like it, it’s a beast. My first time playing a P90. I want to switch out the black pickguard on mine for something different but cannot find any 3 hole guards anywhere that don’t ship from from China? Any ideas? This signature model is virtually the same guitar other than finish? All the best to you Colin.
Hey Michael, the differences appear to be case, colour, and neck profile... will do a full comparison soon. I generally buy pickguards on ebay where there’s loads of choice and often tailor made options for just a few $... let us know what you find! Cheers man 😎👍

Colin, I'm on the hunt for an SG with P90's, if you could only choose one (age old question) would you pick the SG Special or Jr.? Does not having the magnetic pull of the neck pickup on the Jr. really make a notable difference? Also curious if you notice a difference between a dog ear and soap bar P90?
Perhaps a good topic for a future video? (SG Special vs. SG Jr.) That is of course, if you can get your hands on a few SG's. 😂

Now your talking my language! 😆 Special vs Junior... i suppose extra versatility of having neck pickup makes sense if you are likely to use it. As far as extra magnetic pull you talk about that’s way to subtle a difference for the likes of me to notice 😂 it may be a thing but too many other variables to consider before that influences your decision I suspect. Main thing I notice about soap bar equipped specials (and later juniors) is the bridge pup is further away from bridge so they are a bit less bright. You really need both you know! Hope that’s helpful 😎👍

Hello, great video as always. Do you find that this particular p90 sounds better set low rather than very close to the strings? This seems to be the case with mine. Like most I am used to setting a p90 very close to the strings. Take care and thank you.
