Welcome! These musical clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. For all that dont know this is the same event she sang her best version of over the rainbow in the red dress where she begins to fly!! Plus martin luther kings wife specifically asked for her to sing at this event that celebrates the first martin luther king Holliday I believe. So it was historic!
Modern singers need to listen to this. Especially if they want to develop their vibrato. Miss Patti got it all the way Amen!!!

I watched Ms. LaBelle from a side stage mezzanine box at the Academy Of Music in Philly during this period sing this opening and it was UN FRIGGIN BELIEVABLE!!! Every note was true...and then did about a 2hr show that ended with "Over The Rainbow"..with the same power and verocity!!! VIVA PATTI LABELLE!!!
1:49 POWER + RESONANCE . i think patti is the only few who belts in the upper register with both raw power and resonance . Dramatic Sopranos at her best!
There is absolutely no singer living or dead that could have done those intro notes like that

@@teodorsvobodniy ss great as chaka is she definitely could not have opened like that! Absolutely no singer living or dead could. OK. When Patti came out with those notes it was like an archangel descending from heaven blowing Gods trumpet telling the world jesus came back.

@@teodorsvobodniy I have heard her live many times since the 90s (very very powerful God like voice then) and she can almost destroy speakers even into her late 60's! The videos do her voice no justice. And this was early 80s so her voice was even more powerful! She makes other (multiple) singers dissapear on stage with her voice for a reason. So when she come out that stage with those notes and that power I know I would have passed out if i was there.
I almost fainted before she even appeared ☠☠🤣🤣🤣
