Macfarlane sure likes to put stuff and music from 50s and 60s to his show bringin all this old stuff back from the past to people who have never even heard of them
Music Man is a great musical and I definitely saw it way before seeing it on Family Guy (my high school did it my freshman year), but I have to admit, seeing it on Family Guy made me look for it online. Having knowledge of great pop culture of the past certainly makes Family Guy more enjoyable.
Thanks for posting this, it's always nice to see the orignals and where they come from. It's so funny because even the dancing was used exactly the same in Family Guy...Love It!!
We did this show when I was in high school. Very fun and the songs were great. I wsn't in the Shipoopi Scene, but I have to say that Pick-a-Little is still running through my head.
I saw the movie at Radio City Music Hall whom I was 8. This number had to have been the thing that put "The Music Man" over when it opened on Broadway in 1957. No question. It was my favorite part of the score.
Man. His voice is something you're going to remember about the movie/song. It's so...so...is there a word? Different? It's not bad, of course. I like the song. I like the whole musical...God bless that era of Broadway.
I remember when I was in high school we did this show senior year and I was Tommy Djilas (however you spell it). This scene was a lot of fun to do with all that dancing.
i saw this movie before i ended school. its so cool. now were doing this song in a musical with old broadway songs and dances and this dance is sooooooo fun! i get to be lifted in this dance! MEEEEE!!! lol
That was amazing! I'm a person who'z into dancing and loves Family Guy, but they put somebodies dream real and they must of had a lot of good practice time to do all this. So yeah.. AMAZING!!
To TheGomez59 - The guy singing is Buddy Hackett - He was more of a comedian than a singer or dancer. It took some work to get him to be able to do this.
@JetMech72 The GEICO ad featuring the late great Don Lafontaine ("So we hired that guy who does movie trailers") joked on his website that the ad took away what little privacy he had and hopes of not being recognized in public. I joked on the RUclips video "Leave it to GEICO to make someone already famous more popular and famous all over again." This was great, I am glad he put it into the episode.
How so? Seth MacFarlane, along with most the Family Guy writing staff, are huge fans musicals and variety entertainment, so I'm not sure how his ode to these classics ruins anything. If anything, he is doing a huge service by making people aware of these great pieces of entertainment and preserving them in his own way.
i heard this the first time way back when i was in school,,our music teacher had us watch the music man in class,,never heard it again till family guy,,lol
lol.. i know.. i sometimes think i am the only one that knows about these movies anymore.. and then family guy goes and does stuff on them. then i will be lmao and people wonder why i am laughing and why it's just that funny.. because i am soooo familiar. haha. i love the one they did on chitty chitty bang bang.. omg.. i nearly DIED!
@gregsmithers They're Winthrop and Amaryllis, two supporting children characters. Winthrop is one of the boys conned into Harold Hill's phony Boys' Band, and Amaryllis has a crush on him. Winthrop overcoming his shyness (caused by his lisp) is actually central to Marion's defense of Harold Hill at the end of the show.
@OMGshNicholas Hiya. The solfege is wrong on purpose. For one thing, do-si-do is doing double duty as a dance step reference. For another, the character played by Buddy Hackett used to be a con man, and the incorrect solfege is perhaps a subtle mesage that he doesn't actually know anything about music.
@SessRin1778 I think you're referring to the character "Tommy Djilas". He is one of the secondary characters in the story of The Music Man. Tommy is the so-called town bad-boy who was dating the Mayor's daughter against the Mayor's wishes.
I love this play I saw it eairler this year! Not this one though a school production. and if you remember BOB of of "The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody" the guy who was playing Harold HIll sounded like BOB!
@akawhut I agree with you! There are kids who never would watch this video, but if they come onto RUclips to watch the FG version, they just might end up watching the original (my own children have had experiences like that, and sometimes have admitted liking the original versions better!) I guess it's similar to some who were kids in the 60s not knowing Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody if it weren't for Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry episodes featuring the music...
Can't believe this video has less than a million views and a 12 year old boy whose voice has yet to crack gets into the BILLIONS.
Macfarlane sure likes to put stuff and music from 50s and 60s to his show bringin all this old stuff back from the past to people who have never even heard of them
THIS CALLS FOR A VICTORY TUNE
Great Movie!!
Buddy Hackett added his comedic touch . He was great and performed this scene perfectly. I loved this as a child and still do.
I saw this movie when it first came out at the drive-in when I was 8. It's one of my top 2 favorites since then.
Music Man is a great musical and I definitely saw it way before seeing it on Family Guy (my high school did it my freshman year), but I have to admit, seeing it on Family Guy made me look for it online. Having knowledge of great pop culture of the past certainly makes Family Guy more enjoyable.
AMAZING!!
We need more choreography like this in today's musicals.
I played in an orchestra for Musicman also, and this was definitely my favorite song too! :D
Oh, this was a big favorite of my family! This is one of the cutest movies ever.
Robert Preston sure was ruggedly handsome in his day.
I love how family guy turns me and others on to such classics.
aww this brought a smile to my face, I love these quirky old musicals.
Thanks for posting this, it's always nice to see the orignals and where they come from. It's so funny because even the dancing was used exactly the same in Family Guy...Love It!!

This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
One of the BEST musicals ever!
This dancing performance is amazingly good and hilarious at the same time. Love it =)
I love this movie, one of my favorite musicals
I played in the orchestra for the Music Man about two years ago and this was my favourite song :D
One of my favorite movies. I played Winthrop in HS. I had a great time.
What's so great is the long takes while filming. You'd be hard pressed to find long takes like this these days, especially with so many danc emoves.
If nothing else be glad that Seth exposes those who would not otherwise ever see this, to some pretty great work.
This is really awesome, Brendon xD
Thanks for getting me to see this :3
You're amazing
I saw the movie at Radio City Music Hall whom I was 8. This number had to have been the thing that put "The Music Man" over when it opened on Broadway in 1957. No question. It was my favorite part of the score.
The Music Man, and is my favorite musical ever!
I've never seen Family Guy and I am proud of that. I first heard this song when I watched The Music Man, which became my favorite musical.

Man. His voice is something you're going to remember about the movie/song. It's so...so...is there a word? Different?
It's not bad, of course. I like the song. I like the whole musical...God bless that era of Broadway.

It was magical :D
I remember when I was in high school we did this show senior year and I was Tommy Djilas (however you spell it). This scene was a lot of fun to do with all that dancing.

I freaking love this song!!
Love the guy's voice when he says "Shipoopi"
That was amazing! I'm a person who'z into dancing and loves Family Guy, but they put somebodies dream real and they must of had a lot of good practice time to do all this. So yeah.. AMAZING!!
I absolutely LOVE their dresses and shoes.
To TheGomez59 - The guy singing is Buddy Hackett - He was more of a comedian than a singer or dancer. It took some work to get him to be able to do this.

Always been a huge fan of this number, that's why youtube is so cool! LOL
I love this musical
Great performance!!
I LOVE that SONG!
I luv the way he says "shipoopi" :D
Thank you, Brendon Urie for directing eto this amazing entertainment.
@dracognia No, they were referencing the scenes because they like them. It's out of fondness, not laziness. And yes they can write entire episodes.
How so? Seth MacFarlane, along with most the Family Guy writing staff, are huge fans musicals and variety entertainment, so I'm not sure how his ode to these classics ruins anything. i love music man
and this is my fav song from here
=]
I love it!
I first saw this on Broadway, with Doogie Howser's pal "Vinnie" (well the actor) doing the lead in this number.
The extended score was made for the movie. I haven't seen a Music Man production to date that had this version.
I didn't hear this song til' I saw the Family Guy version and I loved it! Now that I saw the original I love it even more!
Buddy Hackett, boy could he cuss with the best! And the blue jokes, he was the best.
I've always loved this song. I had a good laugh when this came on family guy.
This song makes me giggle every time :P
I love this song
Why am I just discovering this?!?!?
I was waiting for the end where they sing "You can win her yet." and the guys are at the urinals dancing. LOL!!!!!
@red2seata I thought someone would ask that. It is the 1933 version of King Kong. Third place is a tie between a whole bunch.
i heard this the first time way back when i was in school,,our music teacher had us watch the music man in class,,never heard it again till family guy,,lol
We did the man production in our school and it was pretty funny seeing the guys doin what they were doin in 2:52..lol

lol.. i know.. i sometimes think i am the only one that knows about these movies anymore.. and then family guy goes and does stuff on them. then i will be lmao and people wonder why i am laughing and why it's just that funny.. because i am soooo familiar. haha. i love the one they did on chitty chitty bang bang.. omg.. i nearly DIED!

THIS CALLS FOR A VICTORY TUNE!

@OMGshNicholas Hiya.

@Thevideoclown No This scene came from The Music Man a film that came out in 1962.
i love the way he says fancy cookin
isn't it funny how ppl burst into dance and everyone knows the steps? LOL this was great
@SessRin1778 I think you're referring to the character "Tommy Djilas". He is one of the secondary characters in the story of The Music Man. Tommy is the so-called town bad-boy who was dating the Mayor's daughter against the Mayor's wishes.
that was awesome
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! OMG he played Scuttle in Little Mermaid 8D
I love this song today my music teacher showed us this but we didnt have time to get to this part darn it
@onexero1 No. That is the late Buddy Hacket . He was a hilarious comedic actor. He passed away in 2003.
@filmfan2690 I know the feeling. I'm dancing in a production of the Music Man and I wanted to get an idea of what Shipoopi would look like.
@lonehanyou n i was in school,,our music teacher made us watch the music man in class,,and never heard it again till family guy,,lol
Love this vid :)
I love this play I saw it eairler this year! Not this one though a school production. and if you remember BOB of of "The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody" the guy who was playing Harold HIll sounded like BOB!

Dancing shouldn't be a contest. It shall be fun. And here it IS pure fun!
It is Buddy hacket - was in a lot of disney movies love bug etc
It is a classic. That's why they put it on family guy. They always do the classics.
@akawhut I agree with you! There are kids who never would watch this video, but if they come onto RUclips to watch the FG version, they just might end up watching the original (my own children have had experiences like that, and sometimes have admitted liking the original versions better!) @NickoliKalashnikov47 No, it's shipoopi, I've seen an actual script from the musical.
our school did this last year and i was glad i was part of it
@kingjack9999 That was uncalled for. Not everyone knows about songs or movies from that era. We're already in 2011, less you forget.
