You present such a positive, upbeat, enthusiastic attitude in your videos. I'm sure that every day isn't like that but I think that if most days in your life are like that, your passengers, co-workers and friends are enriched and calmed by that in their lives and interactions with you, good job! Keep on jetting. Those sunsets over the Rockies are awesome.
Hey… wait till winter time when snow comes then the Rockies will be darn beautiful anytime you see when you fly over I have seen that before myself .: gotta love them as I was born in idaho and know how beautiful they are there 😘😍😆👍😁😎✈️🛩💺
At a big German Airline we’ve got a point system for serving reserve. Every flight attendant has a certain amount of points to reach per year. A day of standby (1 hour call out) equals x points, one day of reserve (12 hours call out, but usually called the day before) equals y points. As we bid for our schedule, we can bid for trips and/or reserve or standby lines. These lines are usually somewhat between 4 and 8 days long. With every reserve/standby line we accumulate our points. By the end of the year, you should have reached your point goal. If you are missing points, they will be added to next years goal.
May I please ask you if you think I could apply if am only 158cm "tall" and most of the airlines require you to be 160cm? Most of the flight attendants wear heels? Thank you very much!
Congrats on 5 years with the airlines and congrats on your new schedules!! Whoo hoo!! And you looked adorable in your red dress, Happy birthday to Eric......and loved the pics of Salt Lake City.....we flew from Santa Ana to Salt Lake City in April, and a change in Salt Lake and the views were gorgeous, Also I love Santa Ana airport, so easy!
I live in Utah, 40 minutes north of SLC. I've always taken our mountains for granted because I see them all the time. So even when people who have just moved here compliment them I'm always thinking uh huh sure. Seeing them in this video from that angle really made me kind of appreciate them.
It is great you still have that wonderment for flying. That's when you know what you are doing is not a job. You would think that that feeling of amazement would fade after so much flying. Hope you always feel that way.
Hi Julia - love your videos. I’ve worked as crew in Australia now for 20yrs . It’s interesting to watch your videos and see the similarities and differences between each airline. At My airline we either fly domestic or international - they are separate divisions. I have flown both - but prefer domestic as I’m home a lot more often. Our Reserve system for the better word is a choice - so you either choose to do reserve or you don’t - it’s very rare that someone is forced to do a reserve line as a lot of crew choose to do it. I guess there are a few reasons why crew would choose to do reserve - the obvious choice for us is that when we choose reserve we are assigned an extra 3 days off per month for doing reserve as opposed to a flying line holder. For a lot of junior crew (and some senior too) this far out ways being on call all the time and for a lot of junior crew they can achieve more of the days off they request as opposed to being on a flying line . Hope this has given you an insight into the differences at my Australian airline . Happy flying - Brendon
You're absolutely right about the technology that allows us to fly at 35,000 feet for 14+ hours without stopping to refuel. This is another thing that is quite an accomplishment is that we put men on the moon 53 years ago. The mathematics, engineering, and science that all needed to come together are overwhelming. FYI about flying reserve, the company I fly for reserve goes by which base and seniority you're at. An example is you're in DFW but with AA and have a contract that allows you at your 5 yr mark to fly 3 off 1 on reserve. My carrier it's all seniority based. If you fly out of a popular base or a base that has a small amount of f/a's the chances are that you'll be on reserve even as a senior mama. I just found out that Lax reserve for 6 or 9 days a month is 21 years seniority!!! If you fly out of a more junior base ie; Nyc reserve 9 days a month might be at 4-5 years? I'm really not quite sure of 4-5 yrs is accurate, it's just a guess, but to think after 21 years to still be obligated to 6 or 9 days of reserve is pretty ridiculous. It's better than years before when you would be on straight reserve for the entire month for 4-5 years in Nyc.
Congratulations on 5 years with your airline! I have relatives and friends who are or were FAs, and can relate to how you feel now. Thanks as always for your vlog posts. They are both informative and interesting. Happy Birthday to Eric! 🎂
Congrats on 5 years! I work for an Australian airline and we have trips, day returns, airport standby and home standby in every roster, it just depends on how you bid and what you get but it’s quite easy to plan your life which is nice! Generally our standbys you will just get called for a quick return so it’s not too long of a day!
To corrallaries to your comments in this video. 1. On your comment regarding being happy for what you have, I would add, "people don't remember things, they remember experiences and relatonships 2 On your comment regarding the miracle of flight. What I think is even more amazing is that the simple physics of air pressure, can raise a machine that weighs tons, thousands of feet in the air. That us humans learned how to harness that force, is the beauty of education and science. (Oh and congrats on the 5 year anniversary)
Julia, you are such a lovely breath of fresh air. You and your channel are, truthfully, my favorite for all things FA! Always striving to be positive and upbeat, taking us along to so many wonderful places. It's also such a joy to see the three of you together. I'm certain your airline knows about your channel, and realize what an asset and ambassador you are for them as well. Love to you three, and happy birthday, Eric🤗👍❤️✈️
So basically a normal schedule. That should be pretty much standard for all workers unless you’re a temp or part time worker. I know it isn’t in some industries and even though I never worked in the airline industry I did work many many years in the transport sector. Starting out as a young bus driver we kinda got our days off layer out 5 weeks I’m advance but the duty of the day max 3 days in advance. So it’s kind of similar. Difference is that with reserve month you don’t even get to k ow how many days of actual work you get which has to make pay very u predicable, right? So I’m that aspect line month has to be a big step up for you getting paid for a fixed amount of days per month
Could we please have another "reserve month review" video where you show us your calendar and all the trips you went on on reserve? It was so great to see all the trips you got called for on a reserve month and it would be great to have a recap, now that they will be less frequent!
Agree with your thoughts on the miracle of flight. It always amazes me the number of people that put the window shades down throughout the flight missing the beauty below them. I do understand the fear of flying people, but in general some of the most beautiful sights ever to be seen.
Congratulations on your promotion! When I worked as cabin crew in the UAE (Etihad) we had a mix of reserve, airport standby and trips every month. We had about 3-6 layovers per month, that is one flight then 24-36 hours layover and then a flight back. Maybe one airport standby a month and 2-3 days on call. We rarely got used on those though so they felt like days off and it was quite nice to relax at home, a very good excuse to skip parties! At the end of my time there they also started doing more than one flight a day for us, which sucked so bad. Like for an example we'd go to dammam (saudi arabia, less than an hour) and back, then to Amman (Jordan, about 3 hours) and then stay in Amman and then the same on the way back. And we also had small planes, a319/321, for those trips so it really felt like a downgrade. All other trips were most often a330, a340 (the biggest one, looked like a worm) and b777. The a340 was mostly for ultra long haul like the us and australia which is about 14 hours flight time... And no domestic due to the size of UAE :). Or well, once we landed in Al ain becuse of a sand storm but then we took a bus home and another crew was sent to fly them from al ain to dubai (100 km, in an a330!! they must have gone around a bit to be able to take off and land!).
Planning is a huge deal. I used to work in the entertainment industry, as they used to rotate shifts, and days off, completely randomly. I made the decision to become a teacher. While the students are stressful and annoying, at times, I also know that at 4pm, I am off work.... and my weekend and holidays tend to be free too. Continuity is a real blessing! 😊
Hi Julia! Congrats on your work anniversary 🥳 As you were wondering about other airlines, when I worked in one of the Middle East airlines, we had just 1 month of reserve in a year. It was not a rule: sometimes it comes after 10 months, sometimes after 15, it depends. When I started watching your videos I was shocked how many reserve months you have 😃 Any idea why it works like that? Maybe calling sick rate is pretty high or any other reason that I could not think of?
About the same here! I was at Etihad (also middle east) and we had a few days every month as on call, and those days were quite nice to have to do home chores and relax (we very rarely got called in).
Thanks for sharing. Just an FYI since you are a FA. There are people who fly that are severely sensitive (think anaphylactic or ashmatic reactions) to fragrances (perfumes, aerosol hairsprays are most common - likely due to likely unhealthy ingredient(s) in the products). Good to refrain from wearing perfumes while in flight in an enclosed cabin, similar to more and more health care centers.
We use those same dog chews for our boy. He knows he gets one after our morning walk. He waits by the pantry. And yes, we should thank for any blessings that come our way.
Thank you Julia for your videos. You always seem so happy and upbeat. Sometimes when I start to feel sorry for myself because of my health situation or when I'm missing my daughter and grandsons, I watch one of your videos and it helps me feel SO much better. Thank you for that.
I agree with you regarding the magic of aviation. I was a FA with Branniff International in 1979. I was on call back then and it was terrible! I hated being on reserve
Julia, I also try to get 100g of protein each day as part of my macro plan. I typically have a hard time of meeting my protein goal without a protein drink. I have found one I believe is the best tasting - Premier Protein (I get it at Costco). This drink has 30g of protein and 1g of sugar for 17 ounces. I have tried the chocolate (tastes just like chocolate milk) and the vanilla ( tastes like melted ice cream). My brand daughters (ages 7, 9, and 11) asked for a sip one time when I was having a chocolate one and they loved it. Now, their mom buys them occasionally for the girls. Sometimes in the morning I will put some of the vanilla in my coffee - yummy!
Julia you are amazing. Positive, kind, and grateful. I'm glad you work for "your" airline. I fly "your" airline alot and hope one day I will get to see you 🤗 thank you for your great videos! And congrats on moving on "up" to your 3/1 rotation!
In Brazil you get a mix of reserve and a line all the time. There are literally certain days you get reserve. But you do get your schedule for every month at least 5 days in advance. So usually by the last week of the month you already know the next month's schedule and which days you will be on reserve
Julia Congratulations to you regarding your change of status with your airline. It truly is a reward for all your work as an attendant. Just had a conversation with a retired Air Canada pilot yesterday so the next time I see him I will ask about their attendant’s schedule. Congratulations again, well deserved, more time to plan outings with Eric and Luna! Regards Jennifer and Duncan
I truly love your channel, so upbeat, fun, positive and I findlearning about the life of a flight attendant so interesting! Thank you for sharing your life with us! You are very inspirational! 💕
Good for you girl!!! I was reserve for whole 3 years when I started and I know how stressful it can be, you feel like almost you don't have a life because you are at the beck and call of CS, so I'm really glad for you also I have to say Luna is my favorite, so sweet and lovely every time she greets you with a shoe or anything in her mouth 🥰❤ is soooooo cute.....l
Hi Julia! I worked on-call schedules for decades prior to retiring. I was on call the whole week, every four weeks. I just got back from a week in LAS. The return flight included 8 flight attendants and an additional FO; Airbus 321. Middle Eastern flight attendants talk about hostile work environment and back stabbings. I have never known you to discuss such vagaries of work; a very smart decision. I'll be flying through MIA and STT soon. Maybe I'll get to say Hi in person. Safe travels!
Congratulations on 5 years, what accomplishment. I and that your work schedule is getting better, more time with Eric and Luna. I was thinking the same thing last month when I was flying home. How amazing something this big can fly and we get to sit here in a metal tube at this height and speed. AMAZING!
Congratulations on your career milestone! As a self-proclaimed Av geek (and former VERY frequent biz traveler), I enjoy your positive attitude and perspective. I often think about how many factors are involved in a flight departing/arriving on time. Even pre-pandemic, I took flight delays in stride, as any one factor (weather, maintenance issues) can have a significant domino effect. I can fully appreciate the challenge airlines currently face in the balancing of resources to meet the the pent-up high demand for air travel post-pandemic. Keep up the great videos!
I was an FA years ago at United Airlines & flew straight reserve for 2.5 years 😭- regularly awakened at 2am or anytime by crew scheduling.I wasn't aware at the time that UA has one of the worse reserve systems in the industry for FAs. I changed careers- no longer a FA but having a rotating schedule at least would've made a huge difference in my quality of life. I understand the value of holding a line. Big Congratulations to you! 🎉
Air France the flight schedule for long haul flights are planned for the month but subject to change, the system is very complicated. On réserve from time to time but only for a few days due to flying hours.
The new SLC airport is beautiful. I was just there on the way back from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale. Next time you are in SLC, if you want a good burger, go to Squatters Pub Brewery. It's over in the delta terminal. There is also one downtown slc. You'll love it!
Hi Julia, I work for Canadian Airline and you are on reserve only for a few months. Basically until you reach the seniority to hold a block. Also, you never go back on reserve for the rest of you career. Except during the pandemic but that’s it. Congrats on that big chance.🎉
If you go to Kill devil hills North Carolina, Orville and Wilbur right first flight. I think you would love a visit there you could really ponder “powered flight” also the museum is close by. Also the beach is close by😉
Congratulations, Julia, on your new schedules and your five-year anniversary! 🎉🥳🍾 Loved the quote you shared before your SNA turn -- really beautiful. Your lipstick was absolutely on point too. 💄💋 Happy birthday to Eric! 🥳🎉🎂 My favorite fragrance is typically anything with vanilla, my favorite scent! 💕🥰
Congrats on being able to hold a longer line. That's pretty huge. I was actually thinking at the beginning of the video that if I were called for a trip, everything else would be done for the day. I'd be stressing out about getting to the airport on time, etc. I've never flown with the airlines, but reserve or on call has to be stressful af. Actually I flew with a 135 company for a bit that did essentially on call, but you didn't get paid. You just weren't allowed to have a beer or be further than an hour from the airport. Yeahhh, not really legal.
YAY so psyched for you! That's awesome Julia :) And yes your explanation makes perfect sense, thanks for sharing! Congrats on five years as well😊 The footage from above is magical. Love that quote too. Ohhh yes, the marvel of flight..is never lost on me. No need to be aboard a plane for me to think that. Happy early birthday to Eric! That red dress is smokin on you!!
I think about how we can lift all that weight up in the air and fligh. I liked your hair up to the side. I watch 3 different flight attendants and all 3 of you have just started your 5th year. How long before you get another change in your schedule? I think it's great that you can really have a life now. especially for dr. appt's, and vet's visits and date nights etc.
Congrats on your new schedule Julia. I work for a French airline and we have a few reserve days throughout the month depending on how many hours of flying we get. We can only fly up to 95 hours a month so if my schedule is let’s say 82 hours I will get a few days of reserve but considering my airline only does long haul flights they don’t often change my schedule😌
Great vlog as always! Look up how it is to think like a Stoic. I have had that mind set all my life without me knowing it is a way of life. I know it is group on Facebook called crew scheduling is evil. Lol! I follow many Mercury crew and I must you all DH a lot! I do not understand. In Scandinavia you have between 3-5 days a month on reserve. From day one of hire you have a set roster! On the 15th of this month you will know your roster for the month of August. How many types of aircraft are you abel to work on? In Europe, but for sure in Scandinavia the number is TWO. So for SAS AHs you fly 737/A-320 series or you fly the A-330/A-350. I do not think that counts as one type. Also they are paid a fixed amount pr month. If you 10 or 100 hours a month. Overtime is extra of course. My friend the pilot has a Great saying on selling your off days to the company: That is leting the company know you have too much spare time, and you do not like that. Fly safe!
I just got my 5 year pin with my company too! Congrats on 5yrs! As I work for a hospital we get to schedule ourselves for 6 weeks.. with certain conditions. It’s pretty cool!
I got sad for a second. I thought you were going to announce that you were leaving your flight attendant job. I’m so happy for you and your new schedule. Love watching all your videos. 💖✈️🥰
I enjoy watching your life, as your videos present. You, Eric and dog. Someone commented about the little spec you had on your chin. Hell with him. I see you got rid of it, but you are you, with or without. Your fans love you as you are. Thanks for sharing such uplifting videos. Press On
Hi hi. Congrats on your big changes. Cathaypacific, a major airline in Hong Kong,( not sure if you’ve heard of it or not), we are blocked several days every month for something called”standby”. I think it’s something similar to on reserve? I guess
Perfect push-ups, a rarity to see. Congratulations on five years. Now you can enjoy life knowing for nine months what your schedule is. I would be excited too.
Congrats, Julia! Now you can schedule your own plans in advance jajaja. In my previous Irish airline I used to have only 4 or 5 days on reserve in a month and probably I would get called for a flight. Now I'm attending the training course for a Spanish airline and maybe the reserve days will change, let's see :):) All the best!!
Julia, as I listen to you explain Reserve Vs. Line, it made me wonder if the number of new hires made or not made in the course of a year for your airline, factors in to how many seasoned FA's, like yourself who have put their time in, get this arrangement? For example, if the airline wasn't able to recruit as many FA's in a given year, would that delay folks like you from getting the arrangement you explained to us in the video? My thinking was that if the airline doesn't have X-number of newbie hires, they can't pass the benefits of more line months and less reserve months to more seasoned vets like yourself. Is this a factor?
Huge congratulations on your 5 years with your Airline 🎉🍾🥂💐 The footage from salt lake city from the plane was awesome 🤩 Your Red Dress so pretty Happy Birthday Eric 🎉. Me & Hubby just tested positive to corvid 🤦♀️🥹 i feel really lousy 🙏🙏🙏 Roll on 5 days . Have a Great sunday 🥰
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful FA Adventures Julia. Always bubbly smiling happy despite the hectic schedule. Credit to you. Always be keep safe there and wherever you go 🛫🛬

UAE based we didn't have reserve months,we'd just get random one or two stand-by days in a month and half of the time you'd get no standby at all.

I think that about the telephone. The fact that you can call anyone from anywhere. Amazing!!!

Totally agree! Premier is by far the best I’ve tried. Not chalky or gross at all! Caramel is my favorite!
Congratulations on five years with the airline.I am here in Tulsa if you ever get a layover I would happy to show you around Tulsa
Julia
Congratulations to you regarding your change of status with your airline. It truly is a reward for all your work as an attendant. Just had a conversation with a retired Air Canada pilot yesterday so the next time I see him I will ask about their attendant’s schedule.
Congratulations again, well deserved, more time to plan outings with Eric and Luna!
Regards
Jennifer and Duncan
DFW is a super senior base so being on reserve off and on for FIVE years is a loong time:) Congratulations for getting off reserve for a few months🎉
I truly love your channel, so upbeat, fun, positive and I findlearning about the life of a flight attendant so interesting! Thank you for sharing your life with us! You are very inspirational! 💕
Julia you look gorgeous, removing the moles really lade a huge difference !
Thank you for explicitly pointing out how magical flying is. What a wonderful reminder! 🙂
Congratulations!! Hi to pretty Luna pup!
The Wasatch mountains are so pretty!
Congratulations on 5 years with your airline, Julia. Loved your pics of SLC. It was definately nice to get to relax on your last flight for reserve
your airline should be very proud of having you on as a flight attendant your always so positive and willing to go with the flow I could never do that
Congratulations! Keep your abilities in mind and stay with it
Air France the flight schedule for long haul flights are planned for the month but subject to change, the system is very complicated.
Also they separate reserve when you stay at home and reserve when you are on reserve at the airport
Congratulations for the five years julia !. Keep up the good work and have a great week!.
I have a cousin who lives in Salt Lake we visited her last summer.
Wow. Love your gymnastics skills.
Happy 5 years with airline. Keep up the great work .
Congratulations Julia. Thanks for taking us along with you on your adventures.
Southwest Airlines does it a little different. They have what is called a reserve rotation That way you don’t have to sit straight reserve for a year
Love the views put the windows, my fav seat on plane
If you go to Kill devil hills North Carolina, Orville and Wilbur right first flight. I think you would love a visit there you could really ponder “powered flight” also the museum is close by. Also the beach is close by😉
Congratulations, Julia, on your new schedules and your five-year anniversary! 🎉🥳🍾
Loved the quote you shared before your SNA turn -- really beautiful. Your lipstick was absolutely on point too. 💄💋
Happy birthday to Eric! 🥳🎉🎂
My favorite fragrance is typically anything with vanilla, my favorite scent! 💕🥰
Congrats on your 5 years. Great video.
Congratulations! Just wait until you are senior and have a 12-month line schedule!
@8:59.... From all the engineers on the planet, your welcome, Julia! That was a nice sidebar... said in a way only you could say it. You're the best!
Congratulations on the change. As always, have a safe flight.
Fly safe!
Congratulations!!! I heard that international airlines are very similar to Delta. You are a line holder but 6 days in a month you are on reserve.
My brother works at DFW for the TSA.
Press On
Sounds like a great time in your work life to do some planning and not be on the “hook” with the unknown. Enjoy!
You have such a pleasant personality that you are instantly likable
I think I may have been on your flight. Was one of your flights around June 28th, and we were on a airbus A321!
holy moly, your footage of Utah is incredible
Gratz on five years!
The recommended daily intake of protein is actually 46 grams
Hi hi. Congrats on your big changes. Cathaypacific, a major airline in Hong Kong,( not sure if you’ve heard of it or not), we are blocked several days every month for something called”standby”. I think it’s something similar to on reserve? I guess
congrats for your new job status, moving on up.
Congratulations on your 5th year!!!
You are a ray of sunshine 🌻 So happy when I see you upload. Spent my day in the ER today. You made it better.
Perfect push-ups, a rarity to see. Congratulations on five years. Now you can enjoy life knowing for nine months what your schedule is. I would be excited too.
Blue Julia congratulations!
Congrats on getting time with family and friends !!!
Enjoy your summer.
Huge congratulations on your 5 years with your Airline 🎉🍾🥂💐
The footage from salt lake city from the plane was awesome 🤩
Your Red Dress so pretty Happy Birthday Eric 🎉.
Me & Hubby just tested positive to corvid 🤦♀️🥹 i feel really lousy 🙏🙏🙏
