    I think that also when there's humidity under the pot (such as a cachepot that gets some water in the bottom, while the pot is higher up) the roots tend to reach more out of the pot.
    I have a Neon Pothos that is in that Umbrella Tree situation. I'm doing my best to wait until spring, so far so good 😅

    This is THE best timing for you dropping this video. I was just picking a video to watch while I repot my absurdly rootbounded Tradescantia that was outside during the summer and grew like crazy. I literally just found that she started to bloom but I think if I would wait longer I would never kick my butt to do this 😂 It had to be done. Thanks for being here during this process 😂👌

    as for the timing, my personal opinion and take is that for most people who rely heavily on natural light from outside the window would need to wait until early spring, cause these plants usually do have a very visible growth-dormancy cycle. For some people who provide growth light and maintain temperature, i think its not that necessary cause the conditions are relatively stable throughout the year.

    Even though it was in need of a repot, your umbrella plant looked so happy! I'm wondering how you care for it? I recently bought one and resold it because it stopped 'sparking joy' for me.. after about a week lol. Didn't get sick or anything, I'm just not sure how fast they grow and if it's right for me. Yours is so pretty though so I might try again haha

      Try Michaels! They have terra-cotta pots in different sizes at the one near me. Sometimes they even have cute unique shaped ones along with the standard. It is pricier than Lowe’s, but Michael’s usually has a good coupon in their email which makes a difference.

    This was perfect timing!! I have a baby Monstera Deliciosa that I had repotted from a four inch pot, to a six inch pot in the Spring. I noticed towards the end of August that it wasn’t putting out any new growth and the leaves at the bottom were turning yellow. I thought I must’ve overwatered it and so, in September, I unpotted it to find that it was hugely root bound! Interestingly enough, none of the roots grew out the drainage hole, but had just wrapped around each other around the side of the pot. I moved it to an eight inch pot and thought it would be happy again, but it’s still not doing anything.
    Do you think it’s just chilling out for the Fall and Winter season and will bounce back and grow again in the Spring and Summer? Or, is there something else I should do? I’m in the same climate as you, as I live in Langhorne (near Sesame Place, between Neshaminy and Oxford Valley malls). It’s a few feet back from a Southeast window so I don’t think the lighting is the problem, although we’ve been having a lot of cloudy days and not as much sun….
    Thank you in advance for your help and advice and thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴

      omg no way you live so close to my job! when i go into the office i’m in langhorne :) i would say that leaving her alone is best. repotting does cause stress and with the seasons changing it makes sense she’s
      taking a moment to chill. i think it will be fine!

    I'm so happy you made this video. I have a spider plant and snake plant both proper root bound now. It's fall, should I repot them or wait till next spring? The snake plant I think has gone dormant because she stopped growing, however the spider plant she is still growing babies and the roots are just coming out of the bottom holes like mad. What do you think I should do? Lots of love from the Uk :)
    Ps: Love your new hair colour, I recently did a full purple hair change and I love it :)

    Great information! Thanks. I noticed you didn't cover the hole at the bottom of the pot with anything. What do you think of using coffee filters for that? Sometimes I do but I know it would be difficult to tell if the plant is root bound.

    • @GoodandPlanty
      @GoodandPlanty  3 года назад +2

      thanks! i personally don't find a need to cover the hole. i just need to top fill a bit more often since i do lose some soil from the bottom

      I have recycled the plastic netting that fruit sometimes comes in to use to cover the drainage hole, it works really well! I feel like coffee filters would dissolve over time.
