    Such a beautiful job. Besides everything else you did, the way you make that solder flow exactly where you want it to… it’s amazing. I was a trained and certified jeweler for over 20 years and I never got to the point where I could trust that those little pallions of solder weren’t going to fly off the flux as soon as the heat of the torch hit it. I didn’t get to fabricate as much as I wanted to and never got to work in silver as much as I wanted to. Anybody I worked for was only interested in gold, platinum and diamonds. Whenever I would show them some of my silver designs, they’d something like, “that’s great; just do it in gold!” Right! Some things don’t translate from silver to gold, you know! Just now seeing your videos and am enjoying them. Keep up the good work; I remember when my hands looked like that every day!

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  Год назад +1

      thanks for your comment Marcy … I mostly use solder paste for chain making, its a quick easy and convenient product to use for small items. Nice to hear a professional jeweller can enjoy watching my videos, being a hobbyist I’ve never worked with gold but apparently you can get paste solder for gold just rather more expensive being £140 for 3g. I find it a real struggle trying to keep my hands and fingers looking presentable for close-up videos … but hey its the real world … cheers … Nick

    • @freewaybaby
      @freewaybaby Год назад +1

      @@Nickscreativestuff if your hands were real presentable, a lot of people may question if you’re a jeweler. Lol
      Many times I went to the mall right after work when I was young and a few times, got some weird looks and so when I looked in the mirror and see that my neck and chest above my shirt were literally red from the red rouge blowing back at me from the polisher, I’d try to remember next time. As far as my hands, sometimes I just jokingly told people I was a mechanic. Seems a mechanic being female (at least back in MY day) was more shocking than being a jeweler. I haven’t sat at a bench in, oh, I guess it’s been close to 20 years. I was still working when platinum was getting popular and I hated working on platinum. Also, it was during the era of Princess cuts. I broke the same $50K diamond TWICE, originally AND again,when it came back from being recut. Thankfully, barely a point was lost all told, but those corners!!! People think diamonds are indestructible. When it got back from the cutters again, I refused to touch it. The guy that I consider the best jeweler in our shop said , “Oh Marcy, give it to me!” Less than three minutes lighter, he looked up at me and smiled and said, “You are not gonna believe this!” But yep, it has slivered off at the same corner as it had with me. The weird thing is that diamond did not show anything that should’ve caused it, no inclusions, nothing. The problem is, a stone should not have four corners; It’s just an accident waiting to happen whether it’s being set or even in wearing it. It’s like one long after that, I got out of the business. I was burned out. So much has changed in the industry now. So many cool tools, I sort of miss it, but I’ve never made anything as pretty as the stuff I’m seeing you make.

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  Год назад

      I’ve also had a lot of dirty jobs and have got used to to funny looks after a day welding. I love sitting at my bench in my spare time fiddling with bits and bobs, couldn’t imagine life without it. I suppose it’s different when it’s a career everybody likes to retire one day and get away from it. Your endeavours as a commercial jeweller make an interesting read, you could write a book on the subject. not a job for me I shy away from responsibility and the thought of working with a 50K diamond would give me sleepless nights or nightmares. I’m a happy hobbyist with mostly budget tools very different to a modern commercial shop with all the 3-D printers and microscope welders they use these days. Must pay well when you get it right … all the best to you … Nick

    I always love your videos and this silver chain necklace is fabulous, but the only thing I noticed that I would change is that clasp… this looks like a really good sturdy, strong necklace and that clasp is not going to hold up at all. I don’t know if that’s all you had at the time of the video, but I would make a nice toggle clasp or some type of an S clasp. But those small spring clasp just really won’t work. And the only reason why I’m saying this is if someone who is kinda new to making jewelry And then they just see that type of clasp that you have used, because you are such a great jewelry designer that comes up with the fabulous ideas they’re gonna trust in you that that clasp will hold up….

    Awesome job bro!
    Couple of questions;
    Where did you get the
    90’ pliers?
    What did you brush the knot with?
    I’m assuming to make it slide together better?

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  Год назад

      hi Norm thanks for that … these fabulous pliers are called circlip pliers, I recently bought some from Halfords. Any oil helps with friction when the knot gets tight to pull … cheers … Nick

      Hi Allai, I use what’s called a barrel polisher for the final shine. Chains spend four hours tumbling in stainless steel shot as a simple way to get into all the small spaces… N

      @Nickscreativestuff  Год назад +1

      thanks for that Marti, definitely have a go, I come up with ideas like this by playing around with copper wire first … I only move on to silver once i’m completely happy with the design and well practised. The other key to making this is to be constantly annealing and then sterling silver doesn’t mind being bent and moved this much … cheers … Nick

      Hi Tish, I let what’s called a barrel polisher do all the hard work. Tumbling in stainless steel shot for a minimum of four hours rubs and burnishers silver chains thoroughly for a beautiful shiny finish … N

    Hey Nick, awesome work :) I've been doing similar things but with copper, I'd love the do it the right way though. How do you get rid of tool marks and polish up the chain at the end? I'd love to work with precious metals.

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  Год назад

      thanks for that Redstoner, I start with the coarsest option on the worst marks and then work down. fine file, buff stick, silicon abrasives on a flex shaft and then finally a barrel polisher for chains works exceptionally well. Definitely have a go with sterling silver, very similar to working with copper … if you can silver solder copper you’ll have no problem working with silver … cheers … Nick
