I did indeed (good observation). He mentioned @ 4:26 the hook in the tail gate and wondered what that was for but it is actually where the floor board cover latches to when you lift it up to be held in place while accessing the spare tire.
I don't understand how Mercedes still makes their $50k cars (M and E classes in particular) with standard halogen headlights. BMW's X5 and 5 Series are direct competitors and come with standard HIDs. Oh well, I still love Mercedes!

@smilesterXtrem5 I believe the ambient lighting is standard. My tester had the Premium 1 Launch Package. At the MB website, it says that Premium 2 Package has an "enhanced ambient lighting package" that has multi-colored perimeter lighting (which mine didn't have). So without triple checking with the folks at Mercedes I'll say the interior accents are standard.
We ordered a Lunar Blue non-diesel 350 with beige MB-Tex instead of leather. It has every option except for the DVD players, heated/cooled cupholders, and AMG wheels. We pick it up this Friday. Upgrading from a 2010 GLK350. So excited for this car, since the GLK is kinda small for 4 people with ski gear and clothes.

I have this SUV, yes the Diesel is GREAT, always remembered the 300D from the 70'3 made a lot of noise, this is nothing like that older car, clean, powerful, Great gas mileage, I get at least 27.3 average, and have got 31 mpg on highway, plenty of cargo room for suitcases and much more, very nice SUV! Holds its value, I understand that the 2014 may not offer the 6 cyl, heard it will be a 4 cyl turbo diesel? I guess trying to get more gas mileage, but may lack pulling power?

Thanks for the response! I really appreciate the information. It's unfortunate that this is the case, but I will keep looking for a way to make it all work because I own a couple fast-food restaurants that have huge amounts of used oil that I would really like to use. Might as well turn waste into fuel if I can! Thanks again.
@2Kriss2Kross iPod integration comes in the first option package and it's doubtful anyone will be buying a base M-Class. Agreed though, it's the semantics of it...

Why i cant turn on both halogen headlights and DRL at the same time like you? So annoying i wanted to get Bi-Xenon but asked to wait for like 6 months just that option
They started manufacturing as of August 1st, the delivery date would depend on where you live, for Canada it is sometime in September
The search is over!! this is the perfect suv cooler cup holders, very nice interior, tech (top notch) and all under 60k!!! and i was actually concidering the x5 for 80k...
That's the lane departure system that vibrates the steering wheel when you leave the lane. Attention assist monitors driver input and will give you an audible and visual alert if it feels you're driving drowsily and should take a break.
@karthikaikumar M-Class is a 5 seater. I bet the folks at your local Mercedes dealership would be happy to show you a GL though. It seats 7.

Interior looks like a significant improvement over previous gen ML. Very upscale design, modern features and better materials. I have 09 ML350 (gas), and things are falling apart already... There are many trims and pieces that don't seem to be tightened and bolted securely. Did you notice any tracking issue with the new ML? The current one is very hard to keep straight at higher speeds.
Can you run it on recycled vegetable oil?
I miss good old gear knobs in the middle

Excellent SUV but technology is going a bit far these days. If you can't parallel park or learn to check your blindspot then you shoudn't be driving.

This is the best looking version of this generation M-Class, especially when they refreshed it & renamed it the GLE

they should start putting the gearshift in the center of the car instead of the right side theres too many stalks on the left and it makes it confusing.
you can get things to remove the dpf urea and egr and the engine will be much better and get much better mpg
park assist is a lexus/toyota innovation - started with the prius, then the lexus ls460. bmw/hyundai soon followed and now mercedes.

In Europe it's not..i dont know about the US but in Europe is not standard...costs 424 euros here in Italy...
with 3rd row seats I am buying it today.

@kosovaboy2012 Bluetec diesel has 258 hp (although in North America they claim it only has 240 hp I dunno why in Europe they claim it has 258 so I stick with European stats) Gasoline version has 302 hp. I'd prefer the diesel coz you get much more torque than the gasoline. And it is even quicker to 60 than the gasoline engine
I really wish the front end looked a bit more aggressive and less "Import/Asian" (specifically Lexus-like). It looks feminine and narrow. I miss the big old lights. Rear is OK but still way too "blingy" in my opinion. Otherwise, seem to have a lot of tech in it.

People say that this car is not affordable, but they're wrong. This car costs as much as a Ford Explorer/ Expedition and those cars are way worse than anything that I ever saw.
I think the styling is starting to grow on me. Sucks you can't get IPod integration standard. You can get that in some economy cars. That's the Germans for you!

idk I have it I am not most pleased with maintenance (I'm from Bosnia so there's not a 100% ongoing supply of parts) and also a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe was a bit more comfortable. This car really requires a pro to drive it, nubs will have a very hard time.

Nice car, but you can get an Explorer with more room and all of the same features (minus the diesel and lane departure warning) for thousands less! Oh, and excellent review.
not true at all by any means. A LOADED explorer can barely meet the starting price of this. Similarly equipped the Merc is at least 60 grand.

LED headlamps were very rare in 2012.

After using it for 7 years, this car has too many problems especially Adblue and DPF exhaust issues. I also have W221 S-Class and it's so much better, in the past it only has Airmatic problem.
Is it only ad blue and emission problems or other issues too? I'm looking to buy one

3:27 how come every single mercedes has that same box? cheap way to save money. even the sls amg has it. looks tacky and out of place. only acceptable for a company like toyota.
If you know what's good for you, DON'T BUY A MERCEDES ML!!!!! My family owned a 2001 model and it required 14 visits (in 2 years) to the dealer for major repairs (covered under warranty, but a major inconvenience). In fact, the 2001 ML430 still holds the title for the least reliable car of the 21st century.
Mercedes's SUVs are their worst built, and least-reliable models that they sell today (even today in 2011).

want a good looking and big SUV??? buy a RANGE ROVER SPORT...Mercedes-benz is good in class (s - c - e - cl - cls) but in SUVs mercedes cant be campered with cars like X5 and Q7 and RANGE ROVER SPORT
