I am an 82 year OLD lady who would love to watch the remodeling of you recent purchase. I am subscribing with the hope of hours of entertainment. I am mostly in my lazy boy chair most days and love these types of videos. God bless your endeavor.😃
I suggest moving onto the property ASAP and installing security. It’s not uncommon to get ripped off. Everything is valuable nowadays with recycling, and drug addicts know no limits. Also, beware of squatters moving in. Lock it up tight and good luck 👍
If it were my place, I'd concentrate my efforts all on getting one area suitable for you to live in. You'll help with security because you will be living there and I'd even rig up 3 or 4 timers in different areas and sides of the inside to have lights turn off and on at random times during the day and night. You moving around and those lights going on and off will give the appearance of activity, which will deter people from messing with you and your new place. That's essential! BTW, nice going on the final price! WHAT A FRIGGIN' STEAL!!! I'm interested in what you plan for it in the end. a bread and breakfast? An office for multi different small businesses?, etc, etc. It's so big with so much potential and options...
You got this! You're young, you're strong and you're semi delusional. Looking forward to watching your journey. I will have to yell at you from time to time as my specialty was heritage homes and I have a better solution. I know this technically is not heritage, but she has good bones and deserves the effort. Don't eff it up dude. Best of luck . Mechanicals will try and break you.
Hopefully he’ll take your advice!!! So VALUABLE!!! I used to work for someone like you! Specialized in lead removal toxic anything, and authentic restoration! I love antiques and old Victorians, although pain in the ass for ME finding close to original as possible! At one point every antique store and even abandoned houses I had to search! Cheers!🙏🏻🦋
I don’t understand mean and negative remarks by people. It’s your money that you bought this property with, not theirs. It’s your project, not theirs. They just don’t need to watch your videos. I’m anxious to see your progress. I know it will take a very long time. Don’t give up. And don’t read the negative comments. Not worth your time or effort. 😢
It’s probably because 62% of people essentially live as slaves (paycheck to paycheck) and will never be able to afford a simple house. So seeing the excess others have can be very hard to deal with. Especially when many of those people work back breaking jobs and often multiple jobs and don’t understand why their contributions to society are not appreciated. Like teachers for example!
What a crazy adventure ahead.. You have an awesome piece of property there. Even if you tore half of it down? and just planted grass, it's still doable. And at least your trying and willing to get you hands dirty. Best wishes for your endeavors!!!!
@@jason_paulin the alternative to this project might be a developer coming in and demolishing the building and putting it in a landfill. Then they would build many houses that are unaffordable to people like us. I would rather see this man keep the place out of a landfill and restore it. I live paycheck to paycheck and I am not at all jealous of others who have nice things. I am very simple and could not care less.
Well, as far as I've seen, restoration channels that post at least once or twice a week and in which some progress is apparent tend do pretty well. At least that's true for properties in France, villas, chateaux, mansions, etc bought by Brits and Americans. That's what youtube keeps showing me. If you do regular updates with the smaller work that needs to be done now and a little luck, chances are that the channel will grow to a level at which you can have useful sponsorships from companies that deal in solar panels, batteries, power tools, paints, building materials, etc which will boost your ability to repair the place. Also, since you also work on cars, you can also do some videos on that, attracting an audience from that side too. Good luck.
Yep, this is 100% true. A YTer in Vancouver Canada recently bought an abandoned home, and is renovating it on her channel, which used to consist of crocheting and sewing content. She now has close to 1M followers on YT and 2M+ on Instagram. If I lived in the US, I'd love to volunteer a weekend to help with the tear down work!
How good is this "house" for being a place to work on cars? It looks like an amazing mansion, with some work and repairs. I imagine I would be so overwhelmed with such a massive project, but he has a better-matching skill set and likes a challenge, but at least I can dream.
@@agoogleuser1261 Probably also helped that she generated a ton of comments telling her to wear a mask because of the mold, while she continued to upload videos of demo without the PPE
Wow, you bought it at such a great price! Thanks for being candid about the finances in regard to this huge project. You're young, smart and willing to do the work, I'm sure you can do it. Your dogs look so happy.
Reminds ME of The Money Pit house with Shelly Long and Tom Hanks. "It'll be great, just wait, it'll be great". Let's home your trades don't give you a time estimate of 2 WEEKS to complete their jobs....LOL
Take a dive into all the energy efficient rebates discounts and other programs that are for upgrading windows, roofing, doors, heating systems, and the list goes on! 👍🏽🤸🏽♂️. Ps. Both of your dogs are adorable, looking forward to seeing them on video.
Don't ever give away where you are. Biiiig nope. I'm excited for you after watching today's video. Sounds like you got this in the bag. It will take time and it will be exciting to see your progress along the way. 😊😊
That place is so big you easily could rent 3rd floor and live on the other two. There are plenty of possibilities. Don’t be so quick to gut interior. Reuse what you can. Because it’s important to put money into roof, heating and electric. Then you can start thinking about making her pretty. You’re going to make her beautiful once again! And having all that property in a nice neighborhood…. Wow!👍🏻
Do your contractor friends need “free rent living” for a year? Some single folks trying to save for a house themselves might “live rough” while working there on the property.
Love the house. When I saw your tour I noticed that there are a ton of old sinks, toilets, tubs, etc... If you plan on taking out any of it find a local salvage company to sell it to or sell it yourself because so many people just trash it and there is a market for just about everything in an old house. Also, I would recommend you watch Rehab Addict which was on HGTV from 2010-2019. The show host (Nicole Curtis) purchased houses in disrepair and brought them back on a tight budget. She saved an old damaged wood floor by taking wood from a space where it wouldn't be noticed like a closet to patch the part of the floor that was too damaged to be sanded down and saved. Probably one of the best home repair shows because she tried to save everything original and I think you could find a lot of ideas from the show. I look forward to seeing what you do with the house.
You'll be replacing a ton of pipes and the boiler - Look into point of use electric water heaters for each bathroom, or at least just one small WH in each bathroom. Heat pumps would also be a huge savings in the long run. My second tip is to avoid smart home stuff. It becomes a huge PITA faster than you can imagine. Six weeks in you will have 15 apps for 20 devices and nothing works together like they claim. Third tip, reach out for sponsorships instead of purchase agreements. Anker would probably sponsor your full electrical overhaul.
This is going to be fun watch. I’m looking forward to it. Your dogs should love the play yard, and the large house to run in. If those walls could talk…..
@@watchere hey dude to grow your channel you need to add atleast 2 more people in your videos. It will make your videos more engaging and will help your channel grow.

That place is a gold mine but you are going to have to do a lot of digging... I help restore old buildings. Based on what I have seen you are going to want to do almost a complete renovation on the inside. Tear everything out down to the bones. The plumbing is no good, the electrical is no good and there is nothing in there worth saving. Frame it out and modernize everything. The outside of the house is another story. It has some nice features. You are going to want to restore as much as possible to maintain the look. Windows are always a big issue. Are yours really that bad? The look old and inefficient but not terrible... I would kick that can down the road if possible, you can always do them later.
Can’t wait to watch the progression. Love how open you are, it’s so refreshing! When you dropped the first vid the algorithm thought I’d be interested and I’m so glad I hit subscribe. Then when you posted the very next day and the next, it really made me super glad I did. 😊
I have always fantasized about making my home in a place like this. School, church, warehouse, strip mall. I’m happy that you are brave enough to do it. I hope it’s the adventure of your life! I don’t think you will ultimately lose money on it, but I don’t think you will make money either. The important thing is that it’s your home, and you should be happy in your home, if nowhere else. Can’t wait to see future videos!
Get some cameras on this property. Once construction starts, metal hounds will be scoping it out. Word will get out when you start hiring folks to help you. Keep this location to yourself as long as humanly possible. Thanks for your time. Good luck. P.S. There are high quality windows that don't require an arm or leg to have installed. I have a huge picture window, I couldn't handle and didn't want to attempt. I almost fell over when Andersen quoted me a price.
Definitely watching this reno right to the end and as well as the reno we will see your skills improve on filming and how your channel grows. I wonder if one of those hall closets is a laundry shut or was/is a dumb waiter. Probably heaps of hidden design elements in this building from years gone by. Have you thought about providing free accommodation for skilled workers whose main job is working on the reno? You'd have to be careful with the personality and integrity of the people you pick and their skill levels but finding the right people could be really beneficial and it seems like you have the skill to weed out the bad from the good. Anyway I'm looking forward to watching this adventure of yours, it's a beautiful property and the outside land looks great including that retaining wall out back, I look forward to seeing that cleared out and looks like you've got the space to build an amazing car work area for your main passion
I watched your first video and thought, this could be interesting. I look forward to watching you turn this really interesting old school into your residence.
Wow I absolutely love listening to someone talking about the numbers and being able to have it all make sense to me. Yanson I have confidence that you are able to make a success with the transaction.
Do what you can to try to get live in there ASAP. Install security cameras, locks on all the doors, etc. etc. You don’t want somebody coming in and destroying your work or stealing your tools etc. There are a lot of scumbags in this world.
Try looking into types of companies that deal with tax credits for window replacement for historic buildings. Anderson Windows is not the best choice - their products do not retain heat/cool in the seasons. My cousin just had this done on her home and she saved a bundle. Plus, it was explained to her well & future savings will be well worth it. Good luck 🤗👍✨
Like your can do attitude and your quirky humor. Sounds like you have the start of a plan going forward. It’s just such a huge project to undertake. Hopefully you can get the taxes down. Good luck to you.
So excited to have found you! Thrilled to watch you go on this journey, thank you so much for sharing as much information as you do, very interesting!!
If it were me, I'd get a watch dog & leave it inside the house so you don't loose any tools, fixtures or anything else that comes with fixing the place up.
You are brave & I'm loving your vision for the overall potential :) & yes....do not disclose your location under any circumstance. Looking forward to the journey.
It is a phenomenal deal. Excellent investment. Everyone stresses when they buy their first home, no matter the price, as it's a huge liability to take on. Definitely don't give out your location, need an excellent security system first. People are crazy lol. So glad your channel popped up on my feed. You're kinda cool in my book 😎
IT is a beautiful property and I love how you're trying to contact people who used to work there to learn more history. I can't wait to see what you do! You GOT this!
RUclips knows I'm a sucker for abandoned building renovations. First the abandoned mansion project in Texas, then a abandoned commercial building in Chicago, now this. I hope your channel grows so you can get some revenue from it and some sponsors.
Also! Since it was commented in the previous vid! I work woth asbestos. It's best such buildings to be checked. I assume this is in the US. So asbestos is treated different than in the Netherlands where I am from, so I can't say much in English since it's all in Dutch for me. But it's best to at least get it checked! Cuz asbestos aint so cheap to remove 😬
Mad respect. I saw your original tour video and the property looked great. This explainer gave me some hope for the future. You're actually a well developed dude who earned his success with hard work and perseverance vs. many youtubers who flaunt their wealth from the millions they inherited from their parents and just blow it in the end...
But how can they deal with the sky-high costs of maintenance and repairs? I am nowhere near that handy. I love the idea of having such a massive house, with 3 floors and even land space to add whatever else might be needed, such as well maybe a garage for working on cars. One of my favorite cartoons is _Dexter's Laboratory._ Imagine having space to build such a massive mad-scientist's laboratory, for real. I wonder of the structure is solid enough to add more floors later on? Or might that be disallowed, due to it being "residential" now? Plus, it sounds like it is in a great location, for him anyway.
Good buy! (Especially if you can renovate it within your budget) Especially for where you are, to get that much land in that area was a steal you can always house hack there. I was looking for a school a year ago and it's just too much for me. Im currently renovating a duplex and it took me waaaay longer than expected to finish. Maybe if I find a good deal I may consider it again. Can't wait to see your progress thanks for the numbers.
I know your neighbors are so happy you are going to rehab it and live in it! Their property values will go up. This is so exciting, like you I’ve always loved a challenge especially in real estate. I have a massive one , kind of like yours I’ve been trying to decide on , you have encouraged me so thank you I’m looking forward to your journey!
You are a brave young man to take on such an "Magnificent Obsession". I wish you much luck and success. I can't wait to see what you do with the place, I think it can be made into something very beautiful.
(Minutes before signing) Now you owe us another $50K. (After days of legwork) Oh you cant pay that? Nevermind we'll waive it. Ughhh America is so frustrating.
Sending you well wishes my friend. Just keep plucking away at different projects as they come…best thing you can do is have a positive attitude about it
You are on the verge of a very large recession watch out for equity loans. The banks will pull in all their loans for now anticipating much higher interest rates. I would look for a company going out of business that makes gutters n down spouts and buy their equipment, consider it an investment to your future home and maybe a side business. When the worst financial period of my life happened at the last bad recession during the Carter years and after Nixon froze salaries post Vietnam and as many college students were taking entry level jobs. We couldn’t even get a car loan with good credit, they were offering 1% at that time. So hang in there prepare ahead, walk the house and know you can live on one floor with your dining room as your bedroom. Do the leaks, roof , whatever windows you can afford, caulk or buy single pain storm windows as a temporary solution . Looking forward to your adventure
10:00 Ok as a contractor before you should know that gutters are the easiest things to replace as well as the windows. Honestly call a local guy PJ Fitzpatrick wanted somewhere between 800-1200 per window for replacements. I found a local guy who got the windows custom made for 200 and installed each one for $50. We had a lot of windows so I said deal and he actually cut off 10 a window if he could do it between his other jobs which worked out even better bc we weren’t in a rush.
as a mom on a budget ,i would rent rooms to friends to help pay for the repairs and id put regular gutters they are way cheaper. metal roof is way cheaper. buy your supplies from places like menards and lowes in states where prices are way cheaper . even if you have to pay shipping prices i think would still be cheaper or order alot of stuff you need get a uhaul truck and pick it up your self. i remodeled my bath room for 300.00 and it looks great . there are so many ways to do cheap. i got my toilet free and it was new someone just wanted a different kind. second hand stores are great for good used items. craigslist has some cheap building supplies . ive been able to get dry wall, plywood. 2x4's, ect on craigslist for way cheaper than they store and it was brand new. good luck to you cant wait to see when its done. praying for you
It's funny to me because when I bought my first house in the mid-90s interest rates were 6.5% or higher. It's insane to me, in the very best way, that it's now 2.5%
WOW, I really appreciate your full disclosure, it's great to to get the whole picture. As you get estimates for work, I hope you consider dumping the ancient technologies this building uses and take a look at more up-to-date and efficient applications. Like zonal heating and cooling (Mutsubishi mini-splits to do the job in specific interiors), heat pumps and tankless water heaters (ditch the crazy heating vents and clumsy water heater and its piping.) The upside is that you can install these in specific core living areas as you upgrade (very budget friendly), rather than blowing your budget to do the entire building at once which would be a very old-school method to take (pun intended).
When the second thing you spoke about was your doggos, I subscribed immediately 🙂. This seems like a dream project. You are young enough to give it a go, and you are not at the mercy of contractors because of your background. Wishing you all the luck bro.

My brothers friend in Australia converted a church to a house. They kept all the pretty stained glass windows.
Wow I absolutely love listening to someone talking about the numbers and being able to have it all make sense to me. Yanson I have confidence that you are able to make a success with the transaction.
Thank you!!!
The pictures on Zillow make the house look so good.
They always do. I went to see so many houses and i got "catfished" Looked nothing like the pictures
@@watchereburns my cookies when I hear that!!! 😱🤨🥵
I ve enjoyed your house videos. Just relax and slow down. I'm in for this ride!
Like your can do attitude and your quirky humor. Sounds like you have the start of a plan going forward. It’s just such a huge project to undertake. Hopefully you can get the taxes down. Good luck to you.
Fingers crossed! Thanks for the support!!!
Love how you stopped them from scamming you n u got a 6.8 percent rate & dropped reassessment next year.
Can’t wait for your new adventure and update for the property 😀
One room at a time, i look forward to your journey on fixing up your new home. Thank you for sharing your journey
Same. We are really enjoying this crazy.
So excited to have found you! Thrilled to watch you go on this journey, thank you so much for sharing as much information as you do, very interesting!!
This a beautiful place hope you find what you want with it and I am sure you make it your own in time
Nice! Wherever this ride goes, as long as you post regularly it will go well. Best of luck.
Oh you will manage to fix this building. One step at a time and shop around for the best pricing.
I look forward to seeing this journey. Great land.
I am really looking forward to watching you make progress. Thank you for sharing!
Well I for one am really looking forward to this adventure you’re about to take us on 😊🇨🇦👏🏼
If it were me, I'd get a watch dog & leave it inside the house so you don't loose any tools, fixtures or anything else that comes with fixing the place up.
I am so hooked on your channel. This is so exciting that you are including us. Thank you so much and the best of God's blessings on this project.
IT is a beautiful property and I love how you're trying to contact people who used to work there to learn more history. I can't wait to see what you do! You GOT this!
oh you are so great to answer all the questions!
Congratulations! It’s your money so it’s your personal decision. Happy for you.
My dream house is a 12 car garage with a one bedroom house also. I love what you’re doing and have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you! and hopefully we both one day own our dream house!!!
RUclips knows I'm a sucker for abandoned building renovations. First the abandoned mansion project in Texas, then a abandoned commercial building in Chicago, now this. I hope your channel grows so you can get some revenue from it and some sponsors.
I’ve been watching the abandoned church in France
Sounds like you watched Modustrial :)
I loved what he did with his Chicago warehouse!
I know exactly who you are talking about. Both projects came out amazing!
Be careful with that hot tar bro. Wear insanely heavy protective clothing!
You've a lot of guts!!! Go for it. Can't wait to see what its going to look like.
500 pretty damn good deal!!! Sometimes you gotta wait
Good for you. More people should buy abandoned buildings and live in them.
This project is gonna be fun to watch! 👍🏾
Nice concise video that covers everything and gets straight to the point. Thanks for filming and sharing!
Hey Yason, I am excited to watch this process and your plans for this build!
I will be following this, good luck!
Unfortunately, I think renovations could be in the millions!?😮😊❤
I know your neighbors are so happy you are going to rehab it and live in it! Their property values will go up. This is so exciting, like you I’ve always loved a challenge especially in real estate. I have a massive one , kind of like yours I’ve been trying to decide on , you have encouraged me so thank you I’m looking forward to your journey!
You are a brave young man to take on such an "Magnificent Obsession". I wish you much luck and success. I can't wait to see what you do with the place, I think it can be made into something very beautiful.
Thank you so much!
This all sounds so scary and exciting. I'm 73 and would have done the same when I was young. So, I'll enjoy your journey❤ .
You got this Yason! I’m going to help you when I hit that dang powerball! I’m very excited for you!!
Thank you for the update. This is going to be an amazing journey. Thanks for taking us along! 🫶🏻🕊🙏🏻🦉
Congratulations great opportunity you have.
This is one massive project and good for you. I wish you all the best. Look forward to the restoration
Excited to what is nexts . A big job but it can be done .
A bargain and upscale battle.
as a mom on a budget ,i would rent rooms to friends to help pay for the repairs and id put regular gutters they are way cheaper. metal roof is way cheaper. buy your supplies from places like menards and lowes in states where prices are way cheaper . even if you have to pay shipping prices i think would still be cheaper or order alot of stuff you need get a uhaul truck and pick it up your self. i remodeled my bath room for 300.00 and it looks great . there are so many ways to do cheap. i got my toilet free and it was new someone just wanted a different kind. second hand stores are great for good used items. craigslist has some cheap building supplies . ive been able to get dry wall, plywood. 2x4's, ect on craigslist for way cheaper than they store and it was brand new. good luck to you cant wait to see when its done. praying for you
I think it’s great and you can envision what it can be. Not everyone has that ability.
I love your up beat can do attitude. Can’t wait to watch you do it. Ignore the naysayers, just means they CAN’T do it let alone even try!!!!
Honestly, if you were close, i come help for free. Former contractor here.
It's funny to me because when I bought my first house in the mid-90s interest rates were 6.5% or higher. It's insane to me, in the very best way, that it's now 2.5%
I have been noticing 7.7% he did fantastic as long as it is conventional
Thanks for making this follow up video.
Definately thinking about it, one side has mini splits already so wouldnt be a hard transition over! Thanks for the comment!
The first thing is to fix the roof. You need to stop the water getting into the building.
When the second thing you spoke about was your doggos, I subscribed immediately 🙂. This seems like a dream project. You are young enough to give it a go, and you are not at the mercy of contractors because of your background. Wishing you all the luck bro.
thanks! The doggos also make guest appearances in future videos!
