Rob this is brilliant!! Thank you. Taking my Seven on track for the first time with the C&L7 club this year and this is just the sort of direction I needed.
Hi Kris. Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. I’m really pleased the video is help. Great to hear you are taking to the track, you’ll love it and the C&L7 track days are the best place to start. Cheers, Rob 👍
Thankyou I'm a novice and don't have a Caterham yet .this is all valuable to me as when i get one I want to do as much maintenance by my self.im not a mechanic. Had a Morgan and done a maintenance course at Brands Hatch Morgan . Doesn't appear to be much difference in good home safety maintenance. Great video.still got low level jack and 2. axles stands so will need 2 more .👍👍.Use to grease suspension every 500 to 750 miles is this similar with caterham ? Thankyou

Great stuff Rob really useful ta 👏🏻. Sorry, a bit off topic here but I wondered what mods you did to your standard academy car & what you consider important to do? I know about changing mirrors, done that on my r400 ✅️ but hearing about things like; passenger side intrusion bar, bag fuel tank, braided brake lines instead of copper, upgraded race brake pads, a switch instead of ignition barrel & underslung seat belts if using a bead seat (which I will be) to make sure the hans device works properly. My heads a bit scrambled! And I now got into Academy 2023 via the reserve list
Hi - great questions! First, side intrusion bars... I decided not to. The reason for me is that sometimes the bar can help to save the chassis, although I was told that sometimes it can be the cause of writing off a chassis. Of course, the driver side is mandatory and safety ahead of costs. When I moved to Caterham Graduates I upgraded to braided brake lines, check the regs though that you are allowed to do this for the Academy. Again, brake pads are restricted for Academy, although Caterham will offer you 'upgraded' pads which I took. If budget allows, I would upgrade to the fuel bag for safety. It was an accident at Donington in 2021 which brought this to reality. I was in the assembly area ready to race when the smoke went up, horrible! I removed the ignition barrel and changed to a switch. Much easier and for me gave more leg room. What Caterham do really well is to help you prep for the race year, try not to worry too much - you will definitely work it out and get all the support you need as you go. fingers crossed you do get on the grid for 2023. Cheers, Rob

Hi, for road as well - but do note the type of wheel nut as they can vary. Also, definitely check regularly, on track before every session, they can (and do) loosen!
Is the steering column universal joint really 34nm? I tightened mine up and I didn’t go all the way to 34nm and it was bending the universal joint. Checked on Caterham build and says 20nm. Not sure if different for academy but worth a check
Yes, you may very well be correct, I have not yet found a bell housing bolt requiring tightening. However, this guide was based directly on the Caterham Motorsport guide for spanner checking, so thought it best to include all of their recommendations. Many thanks for your thoughts. Regards, Rob
Hi Mark They are just Halford's 2t axel stands, they seem to do the job good enough. I add a piece of foam (foam tiles used on the garage floor) to help protect the powder coating on the chassis. Cheers, Rob Here's a link: www.halfords.com/tools/garage-workshop/axle-stands-trolley-jacks/halfords-2-tonne-axle-stands-657115.html
This was my thinking also, however it was recommended by Caterham Motorsport to complete a spanner check and not to rely on torque markings. I’ll see if I can find out more during this weekends race meeting. Great question 👍
@@roboladland I work for Hitachi Rail Europe as a Chartered Engineer on the High Speed Trains that run from Ashford to London.
