Great video.still got low level jack and 2. axles stands so will need 2 more .👍👍.Use to grease suspension every 500 to 750 miles is this similar with caterham ? Thankyou

    I'm pleased to have found your Caterham videos Rob. I've got a 2016 model. I'm used to working on my older cars, but always a bit more cautious with newer onces. At the moment I've got a bit of brake squeal, but don't know which wheel or wheels it is from yet. I suspect the pads are just a bit dry on the edges and could do with some copper grease. Does that sound about right to you? Also, do you have a link for the particular rewind tool you have and the torque settings for the caliper bolts, please?

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Now it’s been a few years since ownership, so cannot recall torque settings- might be worth having a look in a manual (usually find one to view online). Certainly worth trying a little copper slip on the pads. I seem to recall that the rewind tool was made by Sealey 🤔 …anyone else reading the thread help?! Cheers, Rob

    Hi Rob, did the upgrade brakes make much different to feel or strength? any drawbacks?

    • @roboladland
      @roboladland Год назад

      Hi, good question! I guess it depends on how/where you use your car...and also any restriction to pads you are allowed to use. In many race series, the choice of pad is limited. This combined with not being allowed to use a brake bias valve in the Academy series means that by choosing a good pad combo of front/rear does allow you to manage to some degree the balance of the braking. So, I wouldn't actually say that there was a noticeable difference to the braking, just the balance when set up in combination with a good flat floor suspension set up. Regards, Rob

    Great stuff Rob really useful ta 👏🏻. Sorry, a bit off topic here but I wondered what mods you did to your standard academy car & what you consider important to do? I know about changing mirrors, done that on my r400 ✅️ but hearing about things like; passenger side intrusion bar, bag fuel tank, braided brake lines instead of copper, upgraded race brake pads, a switch instead of ignition barrel & underslung seat belts if using a bead seat (which I will be) to make sure the hans device works properly. My heads a bit scrambled! And I now got into Academy 2023 via the reserve list

      Oh & I know about tywrap on the oil dipstock, I'm all over that one 😅👍

    • @roboladland
      @roboladland 2 года назад

      Hi - great questions! First, side intrusion bars... I decided not to. The reason for me is that sometimes the bar can help to save the chassis, although I was told that sometimes it can be the cause of writing off a chassis. Of course, the driver side is mandatory and safety ahead of costs. When I moved to Caterham Graduates I upgraded to braided brake lines, check the regs though that you are allowed to do this for the Academy. Again, brake pads are restricted for Academy, although Caterham will offer you 'upgraded' pads which I took. If budget allows, I would upgrade to the fuel bag for safety. It was an accident at Donington in 2021 which brought this to reality. I was in the assembly area ready to race when the smoke went up, horrible! I removed the ignition barrel and changed to a switch. Much easier and for me gave more leg room. What Caterham do really well is to help you prep for the race year, try not to worry too much - you will definitely work it out and get all the support you need as you go. fingers crossed you do get on the grid for 2023. Cheers, Rob

Also, you will need some suitable automotive wire and connectors to extend the wires if you are looking to place mid dash. The barrel is really easy to remove with a couple of bolts. @@roboladlandyou are welcome! Yes some great roads, my favourite is the Antrim Coast Road from The sea port of Larne to Portrush..which I get out on fairly regularly in my S3 k series.. Breathtaking scenery and a great driving road, not too much traffic! Not such a big caterham comunity here so I've really appreciated your videos /tips on maintaince. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more. Regards, Iain.

      Hi Craig. I have the Sparco Club X1 which I have found to be brilliant for a track day helmet. So much so that when I bought my race gear I bought the equivalent Sparco helmet with FHR posts required for racing. I have recommend to several friends and they to have found it to be good and great value. If at all possible I would recommend visiting a specialist to try. However, here’s a link to the helmet, I’m sure Demon Tweeks will be able to assist you and ship. Cheers, Rob www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/sparco-club-x1-helmet-matt-black-1003284/

    Hi Rob I've just bought a superlight and even with narrow racing footwear I cant get foot past brake pedal (is catching by 2/3mm) to even hit the accelerator. The Accelerator is maybe a couple of inches further away past the brake. Hope that makes sense? What should I shift? Ideally I need to shift the brake pedal to towards the clutch a few mm. Or put the brake forwards and maybe bring the Accelerator towards my seat. Advice please.

      Hi Craig. First of all, congratulations, what a fantastic car! I think you have a few options here. First of all, it can often be helpful to have a second person with you when adjusting your pedals to get a good view from above with the pedal cover removed. There are 2 pivot points for the throttle, take a look and see which location yours is mounted in. Word of warning, it's really fiddly so make sure you have plenty of time before touching it! Second option is to move the brake pedal, this is fairly easily to do by moving the adjustments and is covered in this video. The final option is brut force! Often the gap of the throttle pedal is adjusted with persuasion with a crow bar! If you are unsure, I would really recommend a visit to your nearest specialist, they will be able to get the pedals fitted to you easily I'm sure. Please do not hesitate to get back in contact if you have any further questions though. Regards, Rob

      Thanks Rob all sorted I used you video and shifted the brake pedal towards the front of the car and then squeezed it over 1 cm. Now perfect.
