Please do this again with different speeds and a radar gun so we can see MPH to Flight Number speed comparison and what the arm/disc speed is needed at each speed.
Came here to say this. If you're going to talk arm speed, let's measure arm speed. I'd even take disc speed. But just having your guys throw and saying they fly different for different folks could be all kinds of things. Come now, get a speed gun, measure some speeds, and make a spreadsheet. Data is beautiful and will give us more insight than just talking off the cuff about it.
Dynamic discs did a video where they measured disc speed (flight numbers if i remember correctly) to arm speed with speed gun Goal was to see how much arm speed you needet to discs intented flight
Is there a good app that lets measure your arm speed because my discs are usually 168 to 172 in weigh, but someone told me I need lighter weight disc because they’re easier to get upto flight.
I really enjoyed this video guys. Something that I have tried to explain to people for several years, and it makes it very easy to understand and literally hear the difference. This would be great as you mentioned to see something like a comet, undertaker, fierce, and nuke ss or something of the sort to show what understable discs look like for the Pros vs Ams. Great content!
Probably one of my favorite videos they’ve put out. Love all the fun stuff they do and the goofy rounds but these educational videos are just as good and add another dimension to this channel.
This would make for a great regular series. Seeing discs thrown with different arm speeds is valuable for those of us trying to buy plastic without the chance to try it.
I’d like to see y’all throw discs of the similar speeds with different turn ratings. Maybe like a teebird, teebird3, beast, and a thunderbird. See how arm speed affects the turn rating.
A super interesting video! When I started getting into disc golf, I lucked out by buying a Roach and Buzzz, though I had no idea what I was buying at the time. Now years later , even though I have drivers , my arm speed just isn’t there and I end up playing better with my buzzz. Now it makes sense!
I really like this concept. It would be interesting to see the same molds, different plastics. Show the difference in arm speed in mph (like others have suggested) and then what the different levels of plastic means for XX arm speed.
I learned this after about 2 seasons. Wish I knew this when I started. Beginners, this video is golden wisdom. Since I only throw 300, I mostly use 9 speed or less. I will occasionally use a faster disk for shot shapes or head winds. Stay within your through speed will lower your score dramatically.
Great video. I think you should do the four most common discs from the top disc golf brands. Common ones that everyone is buying and throwing because of a certain pro. Maybe do a twitter, Facebook and Instagram survey to see what discs people are throwing because of someone. This video made me think about the discs I have in my bag.
Awesome idea, but they’d need to get pros from those brands. Brodie can’t throw the other discs (without talking to Discraft to get permission, I’ve seen a couple videos where pros threw another pros bag.)
Great video guys. Love the channel. One thing I’m curious about, how does Brody throw the Roach so far and not turn it over? When I throw my putter with power it turns over into a roller almost instantly. Keep up the great videos, you guys are my favorite channel!
Malta, Passion, and Heat would be sweet to see the results from the various arm speeds. These are staples in my bag with the Heat the max speed just as this vid explains.
Yeah when I first started playing disc golf 2 years ago I bought a Nuke and it flew like a tilt for me. So it sat on my rack for almost 2 years...End of last years season I whipped out the Nuke again and finally I'm getting full flight out of them.. It's the Big Z Nuke and I just bought 2 more from you guys at Foundation 2 days ago....To be fair though while Brody was throwing slight Hyzer, Hunter and Konner should've been throwing Annhyzer to try and get better flight...If you guys wanna throw a fast driver but don't have the arm speed, definitely try the NukeSS first. Once you get a brand new NukeSS to turn into a roller disc from hyzer, it'll be time to switch to a regular Nuke for a straight shot with slight turn to fade at the end.
I’d love you to do this test with varying disc weights as well. For example, if Hunter and Konner threw a max weight Nuke vs a 161g Nuke I’d be curious to see what the disc flight looks like.
Yes. I've always wanted to see a spreadsheet showing mass and velocity for the same power. There's a point where a lighter disc's velocity stops increasing because of wind resistance. It should be easier to figure out the correct weight for maximum distance. The guessing game is expensive. (There HAS to be someone out there that understands physics enough to make things easier to understand.)
@@ronjones-6977 I'm trying to build a variable speed universal disc launcher so I can compare any disc with rpms, launch speed, and release angle and direction all equal. I want to be able to vary spin and speed to remove the human variable and get real data to look at
I would love if the three of you did disc reviews like this. It’s great to see how discs perform at different skill levels. I’m still below even Konner, as I can’t get a Buzzz 300ft. I can get a driver there on a lucky shank. Otherwise I am throwing 7-9 speeds about 250-275.
What if you would throw a high speed understable disc. Like Hades or Tern. Lower arm speed will make the disc's flip even though they are wider rim disc's. Could you throw your best distance fairway driver longer than your understabile distance driver?
As a swede I would love it of you guys took on the Kastaplast lineup for this challange, mainly to see if Konnor and Hunter, maybe Trevor also, could keep up with Brodie throwing a Berg. But also just see you guys take on some of their discs. Cheers!
I throw 150g destroyers and love how they fly for my arm speed. They fly like I see pros throw 175g destroyers. Seeing y’all throw some lighter weight, high speed discs would be interesting.
Great video. Would love to see the Undertaker / Anax / Force comparison. I think anything flipper Brodie would have to power down on to get a "not throwler" flight out of it, which defeats the purpose. But those three might be the place where an intermediate/average arm might land as far as max arm speed, and how much hyzer Brodie has to put on them to get a "normal" flight out of those discs. Aside: Discraft tends to skip over the 7-speed slot in production runs (at least, I don't know of a ton of people who throw a Stalker). Probably because if you can find a Buzz that flies 300+, you might as well stick with that until you jump up to a 9 speed. However, people who throw Innova do usually bag something in that slot (Teebirds, Eagles, TLs, whatever). Might be an interesting debate night topic for why that might be (apologies if that's already been covered somewhere).
I have had two shoulder surgeries and back surgery I will hopefully get back to playing this year but I’m afraid all my discs will be to overs table for so I would like to see some lower speed discs and how they fly cause I’m guessing I will have to rebuild my bag
One thing that's important to add would be there should be a place in your back for a high-speed disc for throwing into a headwind not sure if you said it
I would add that high stability is quite important for headwinds. A Nuke SS (which is a high speed disc, but can be quite understable) is typically a terrible choice for headwinds
Thats what I keep my Wraiths for right now, headwinds and forehands, really need to max out to get them to go far otherwise, and after 20 maxed throws the shoulder needs some rest, don't max out all the time folks!
I’d love to see Hunter and Konner throw the Scorch. That disc brought me easy distance with its slightly slower speed and understable characteristics. I’d also love to see this same thing done with forehands.
like this format for sure!, would love to see the zone, undertaker, raptor. also something fast but pretty flippy like a nuke ss or shryke. if hunter has that and brodie has a more overstable nuke do you get closer to a similar distance on a calm day, like with proper flight? i think that's where a harder thrower has an advantage is throwing more overstable stuff in the wind and staying consistent. next time you sort discs like that brodie you should film, it would be good content and id be interested. just an intro then the throws and a summary would be sweet. of course would really like to see different runs and plastics to show differrences there too. thanks for all the content guys!
Great demonstration and great advice. Undertaker, Anax and/or Heat next. I would guess the difference in Heat distance wouldn't be as pronounced compared to more stable discs around that speed.
Do you guys think it is better to throw a fast understable driver or a slower more neutral driver if you have an average arm like say, Hunter? Maybe that could be a good idea for another comparison video.
I also want to add to all that good and correct information that some high speed discs that are flippier, understable or beat in alot can actually go alot farther on a weaker hand than a stable fairway. So its not just all disc speed that matters the outcome of a total distance of the flight. You can also have 3 different lets say thunderbirds. Out of box, nice, stable flip up from hyzer to straight flying 9-speed fairyway driver. Use it for a year and it will turn over and make a nice S curve in the air. Out of box a weaker hand wont get it to flat from slight hyzer, but when its beat in, it will fly nicely for them.
I have always wondered if it is possible to throw a disc fast enough to overpower it’s flight number. I would assume as long as you got to the right speed or more, the disc would stay true to the flight numbers.
I try to preach this to my beginner friends all the time. Never fails though that they run out and immediately buy a Star Destroyer or something and are all excited to start throwing. They never want to hear that they should pretty much be throwing putters and approach discs for a while to start.
Really enjoy your content. It would be nice to see some slow arm speeds drivers and even different brands. Also if you don't have a range finder what is the best way to measure your distance?
Does this change for forehand? I only throw forehand raptor and zone are my go tos I basically have different stages of wear on them but now it’s making me think if I could throw my Anax further than my Force my furthest throw is 420 foot drive flat to finish with a force could I get the Anax further or would the force go further due to the speed?
Were there specific drills Brodie did to get to that point or did he just go out to a field every day and throw a lot of discs to build the form and muscle?
Great video guys! Would be interesting to see if there's any material difference in distance for a lower armspeed person between throwing say a 170g Pro or Star Thunderbird and a Gstar 160g Destroyer, assuming similar turnover flights.
It'd be great to see your process on finding your max speed disc. You mention how to do it, but it'd be fun to see the data fall out of it, and see if anyone is surprised by the findings!
This shows the value of the updated charts that I've seen at least on Innova's site, where they show a Beginner line and an Advanced line. It shows a very similar result to what you all saw with the Nuke. If you can't power up to the disc, it's not going to do what it's supposed to.
What’s a good speed number for beginners, like 10 and under? Most distance drivers are 12 and up, if I could find a under stable and stable distance or fairway driver disc, I will gladly take. I want to learn the hyzer flip, is it easy?
For a beginner I wouldn’t go above a 9 speed. You really want to get your form down with a straight mid range, but if you want to throw a driver something like a heat or leopard would be good because they are both semi under stable and slower drivers
It would be cool to see actual arm speeds, but this should be really helpful to new players. Who cares what the arm speed actually is, this reiterates that 99% of amateur golfers are throwing too much disc. Good stuff guys
it’d be interesting to see the effects speed has on flight on forehand too. are you able to more easily get truer flight characteristics from high speed discs on forehand rather than backhand?
My absolute farthest I've ever thrown on flat ground is 325. And that was with my Pro Shryke. I have a really sweet ESP Force with Darth Vader on it that I love to throw but for me it's just when I have somewhat of a distance shot that I want to hook hard left. My Firebird does pretty much the same thing but for me it's for slightly shorter more controllable shots. Great video!
My go-to discs for each category when I try to throw them far: Putter: lat64 pure Mid: discmania origin Fairway: I don't have one at the moment 😅 Distance: discmania enigma
There is something wrong with your camera lens. There are 2 small dark spots. One near the lower middle, and one far right lower middle. I thought there was something on my screen. I noticed it on your last video as well.
How are Nukes compared to destroyers? I have always been an innova fan and throws destroyers between 135-150m on a regular basis, stock release is hyzerflip to turn with late fade, i want to try some Discraft and wonder which to try between Zeus and Nuke. Great vid as always, best dg channel❤️
low arm speed here: i throw mostly fairway drivers and mids, but will pull out a glidey distance driver occasionally for wide open shots where big misses aren't really penalized
I'd like to see videos on studying varying mould production profilings, and how those differences play into how discs fly. It's well known that not one disc is the same as another, and sometimes during production. The discs change.
This is super interesting! How do I know if my drivers are beaten in and have become more understable over time or if my arm speed is fast enough to have them flip up?
I would love to see the discs that Paige throws, the undertaker, the passion, the stalker and the fierce. It would be really interesting to see how these discs fly for you guys. God bless
You asked "how Brodie throw so far" i would say Hunter and Konner form is quite similar but if you compare it to Brodie. Brodie uses plant foot and hips more and there he gets that extra speed. Especially Hunter hips doesn't turn much after plant is set when Brodie pivots around plant foot. I don't have arm speed for 12 - 13 speed disc but still i'm able to throw them furthest somehow it doesn't make sense.
id love to see the difference between a surge or a wraith. that is touted as a driver for am arm speeds and itd be cool to se them compared to when a pro throws the same disc
Please do this with an understable series of discs. Fierce/Swan, Sol/Paradox, heat/virus, Grace. Good brand diversity is available, or there's enough options to keep it in discraft.
Please do this again with different speeds and a radar gun so we can see MPH to Flight Number speed comparison and what the arm/disc speed is needed at each speed.

The lighter the disc, the more it's turn and fade numbers are exaggerated
also more spin exaggerates the turn number, so power grip gives more spin than a fan grip.

I'd like to see videos on studying varying mould production profilings, and how those differences play into how discs fly. It's well known that not one disc is the same as another, and sometimes during production. The discs change.
This is super interesting! How do I know if my drivers are beaten in and have become more understable over time or if my arm speed is fast enough to have them flip up?
ask a friend thats used to that mold to toss one :D
You should try doing this same comparison with the PM and PP line discs.
I would love to see the discs that Paige throws, the undertaker, the passion, the stalker and the fierce. It would be really interesting to see how these discs fly for you guys. God bless
Yes more brands and more discs
You asked "how Brodie throw so far" i would say Hunter and Konner form is quite similar but if you compare it to Brodie. Brodie uses plant foot and hips more and there he gets that extra speed. Especially Hunter hips doesn't turn much after plant is set when Brodie pivots around plant foot.
I don't have arm speed for 12 - 13 speed disc but still i'm able to throw them furthest somehow it doesn't make sense.
I would love to see what it looks like for everyone here with a Shryke. I love my Shryke, but I know I don't have the arm speed for the truest flight.
Meteor, impact ,undertaker , Avenger SS , crank SS would be great ones to try those seem to me my go to im working for my arm speed.
Would love to see this for forehand throws
When are you going to York Pennsylvania for Bogey Bros??
id love to see the difference between a surge or a wraith. that is touted as a driver for am arm speeds and itd be cool to se them compared to when a pro throws the same disc
Please do this with an understable series of discs. Fierce/Swan, Sol/Paradox, heat/virus, Grace. Good brand diversity is available, or there's enough options to keep it in discraft.
can you do a forehand version of this because I feel like disc selection for forehand would be different
For instance throw a zone raptor Anax force see the differences
that tent in the background looks like the great british baking show
I'd like to see more of these videos with other brands as well.
