- Ducati Hyperstrada chain and sprockets replacement. This covers install of the O-ring chain, rivet master link, and tensioning of the chain. The chain tensioning is the same process at the Triumph Speed Triple single sided swingarm.

Nicely done with (almost) all the details shown. ;-) I have a Hypermotard 821 and will need to replace the chain soon as it is 64000 km old and has almost reached the stretch limit. Hi nice video, You didn't mention that new sprocket is different than original. it has adaptor, would be nice to hear more about it, since oem part is quite expensive, and there when You buy adaptor once , every next change of sprocket will be cheaper. And ther is more choice with number of teeths i think. regards buddy
Thanks. I believe it was a vortex sprocket. But it has been a while now and I am not sure. It all went right on. I doubt you would have to buy any extra adapters for any name brand sprocket.

Make sure you have the owner sit on the bike so you can get an “accurate measurement“ and then don’t do a measurement on the chain tension… Brilliant!
Well if you want to get technical about it and nit pick of details of the script in a self shot RUclips video: Your chain deflection should be 2% of the center to center distance of the sprockets. But tag me in your chain install video so I can see how you did it.
@@KnobleMoto I didn't make a video cause there are plenty of them out there with the correct specs, and the tech showing how to measure them. My Ducati pikes peak chain calls for 27-29 mm of drop with the wheel on the ground. I know this because I measure. Like said people will see this, and copy you.

Great video. Could somebody tell me the socket size for the front and rear sprocket nuts and as well as the torque specs for fastening ?
32mm for the front sprocket. I don’t remember the rest.
@@KnobleMoto thank you so much. Rear is either 40 or 41mm. When motorcycle is available I will measure it and post here. Furthermore based on my research I think that when you replace the rear sprocket by a two piece as in the video you will no longer need to undo the rear axle nut carrier. Just unbold the sprocket from the middle piece and you are done (when you put it in with the bolds facing outwards from the wheel ;)

On the rear sprocket, should the threads in outer bolts be on the outside? When I put it on that same way you did the bolts didn’t have enough clearance. I called and they had said to me that I put in backwards, I’m gonna put on tomorrow with the threads facing out and see if it goes... helpful video though I have the same exact setup, same bike with that same 520 conversion, kind of turning into nightmare with this rear sprocket now but hopeful it works fine.
Yes. I put the sprocket on backwards initially. I wasn’t sure anyone would notice in the video Lol. Threads go out for sure.
Do not try this at home folks. There’s a measuring sequence you must do as you’re pressing down and mushrooming that master link into place you’re supposed to mushroom it out about 2 mm. You don’t just jammin down till it “feels right”
According to RK chains, you want to flare the rivet out to a dimension of 5.56 mm. (For a 530 chain). That’s about .5mm larger than the original pin diameter. 2mm or .078” is way too much. You will damage the chain.
@@KnobleMoto The measurements weren't the point. The lack of procedure is. People watched you press the plate down without measuring, and mushroomed the rivet without measure. some will do the same after watching you do it. Ever seen a chain failure? I guess Harleys don't deal with chains...
@@Magicinstalls you’re right, Harleys don’t have chain final drives because a belt will last over 100k and according to the belt manufacturer, Gates, they have the same tensile strength as a 530 chain.
In my 25 years of being a millwright, I saw a few chains fail on some machinery and high speed automation equipment, and I have seen the aftermath of a chain fail on a motorcycle. However I have never had one fail on the countless metric bikes I owned, because when I put the rivet master link on, I pressed it until the pin flared out enough to cause interference with the side plate, therefore preventing the master link from coming apart and causing a chain failure. Just like I said in the RUclips video.
The real question is do you always spend your Sunday mornings looking for minor technical errors in RUclips videos. I own this channel and arguing with people helps push the algorithm. What are you doing here?

@@jaypilot6374 x-ring because it forms more of a lip seal to keep lubrication in, and dirt out. However I think I am probably splitting hairs by worrying about it to that level of detail.

It was an assortment of prices of wood through the rear wheel and jack stands. The single sided swingarm made it a little challenging. It looked hillbilly enough that I was not filming it.
I figured as much but your candor, honesty and thorough vid is excellent!!! I have used a latex glove over axle nut in the past to avoid damaging the nut and also to ensure a better fit with socket….All the best

I am in Canada and serarching a supplier of rear sprocket for my 796…(525, 39 teeth)…Where did you find yours?
I have same sprocket carrier but only supplier I could find JT sprockets said I need to by their sprocket carrier too because the new sprocket can be removed without removing the wheel. I think I want to stay with OE sprocket carrier….
@@louismartin4446 it was either bike bandit or sprocket center. However Bike Bandit is out of business.
So to remove the front sprocket we need to unmount the passenger foot-peg which also the center-stand ?

It’s not as bad as it sounds. But it is a little more work than one would expect for a sprocket change.
