  • We're going live, taking your questions and comments, in the aftermath of a frenetic Austrian GP. Who was at fault when Max Verstappen and Lando Norris collided at turn 3? And what about George Russell's drive through the debris to secure his second career win? Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz also stepped on to the podium - but Sir Lewis Hamilton could finish only P4. What does this mean for the British GP at Silverstone? All three British drivers will be eyeing-up their home race - and there's a very good chance that McLaren-Mercedes will again take it to the reigning champions. There's lots to talk about and lots to question so join Peter's latest livestream on RUclips chat this Tuesday, July 02, at 14:00 CET.

    The FIA is an odd organization. Since when are they penalizing drivers based on consequence rather than the action itself ? Max made contact, ok fair enough he got a penalty. But how can Lando's actions in Spain where he forced another driver off the track at high speed, and the late divebombs also forcing another driver off the track (Hulkenberg got a 10sec penalty for that in the sprint btw.), were not even investigated ? And the of course you read the comments from one of the weekend's stewards (Herbert) and it starts to make sense. He was literally implying that Max crashed on purpose and he bases his decision on his personal opinions of the drivers. Saying that Lando shouldn't move to avoid contact because that's how you beat Max. Quote "I like competition because I think it is a very important part of racing. But I sometimes don’t like it when he gets to the point that you are actually forcing a car off the circuit. That is not what it is all about." Well if mr Herbert doesn't like someone forced off the circuit, can he please explain why Lando didn't get investigated when he forced Max off in Spain and Austria ? The overreaction to this racing incident of simple wheel contact has been overblown beyond belief. And it's only gonna get worse the upcoming weekend. F1 media is gonna reach a new level of insufferable.

      @@pedroferrr1412 I don't even care if all the stewards are British if they do a proper job, most of the staff in F1 are British i have 0 problems with that. The only British aspect surrounding F1 that gets on my nerves is the media. What they are doing at the moment with this completely normal racing incident that happens every race, is mind blowing. At the same time they turn a complete blind eye to Landos actions in the past few weeks. Not only did they not have a problem with Lando forcing Max off the road in Spain, they actually cheered it on as it is good hard racing. A lot of the articles i see coming out of these mainstream outlets look like they have been written in advance and kept in the drafts. Seems like they have been waiting for the slightest incident involving Max to unleash yet another wave of toxic journalism. They probably can't believe their luck since it happened just before Silverstone. They will keep fanning this flame all the way to the weekend, and on the weekend itself ? Oh boy i can hear it already...😀

Max unfortunately always come with an answer why the fault is on the other side. And he has problems with everyone. And if we see Lando, Leclerc, Bottas, Sainz, Lewis, Vettel, Webber, Ricciardo. All of them tried very hard to avoid the crash or touch but not really damaged the car. To crash you need mostly 2 parts. Even if you do everything you can yo avoid it. And there is those who dont! Good on you Peter THANK YOU for keeping it real!
    I'm posting everywhere watch Peter Windsor's analysis of Austria he is the only one that got it wright.
    You said it yourselfs, finally we have something to watch and you know why because of MAX and he is right he had the inside line, there was space on the left and Norris didn’t move. Max said he didn't move under breaking. Do we want to see good and fun racing or constantly being confused by inconsequent ruling of race killing rules. Actually Norris drove Max of the track as well some rounds earlier and Max moved out of the way and that's why there was no collision, I don't hear people saying anything about that exactly the same thing though. I think the English press got it wrong this time I'm sorry you're just talking like anybody does except Peter Windsor and I think Because the polarization of this discussion will do more harm to the sport and make drama's where there are not supposed to be any drama's. like everybody wants to say this friendship between Norris and Max is over ect ect, and I don't know if you read or heard the English press (I don't want to call names) they where just waiting for this moment and are slaughtering Max right now THAT'S NOT GOOD FOR THE SPORT and not what Max is doing and if Norris doesn't want to be friends with Max anymore then he is childish, They are the best things in F1 right now LET'S ENJOY.
    And Peter I love your show good luck with all your endeavours, hope to meet you one day.

    “Car 1 [Verstappen] was approaching Turn 3 with Car 4 [Norris] alongside on his left. Before turning in, the driver of Car 1 moved to the left, causing a collision with Car 4. The Stewards determine that the driver of Car 1 was predominantly at fault and therefore impose the above mentioned penalty in line with precedents.”
    Max received two points on his super license, along with the 10 second time penalty, which is reasonable and puts an end to the matter, as far as punishment. Not being able to take responsibility is the only outstanding issue. What type of man can't take responsibility for his actions? If the decision was wrong, then why wouldn't you challenge it? I think this obsession with DRS came about after Alonso sat behind Kubica for 20 laps or so in Abu Dhabi and hence allowed vettel to take the championship. Ofcourse those cars were different from today.
    So yeah there's actually a quick solution here. Bugger off the DRS and keep the cars big, what would be even better is to enforce 2022 regulations again but sadly only one team figured those rules out.
    Just can't win haha but I must say when formula becomes a sport of spoon feeding OVERTAKES, then WHERE'S THE OVERTAKE, WHERE'S THE EXCITEMENT.😂
    They need to be careful here because they could ruin the sport.

Go ahead and tell me how Max should have avoided being hit from behind ? Even in daily driving the driver that hits another from behind is always at fault for failure to follow at a safe distance or, failure to control your vehicle!

    I love F1. Jim Clark was the best ever. I have no dog in the fight. I don't support any driver or team. I appreciate talent and skill. I also don't think that Ferarri should be treated differently to the other teams.If Max turned when there was the dive bomb from Lando this discussion wouldn't be being had. If Lando had been given his penulty for track limits; ditto. Max didn't turn into Lando. Going back now it's Lando who turned right into Max's wheel. Last race Lando pushed Max onto the grass. I don't understand nationalism in motorsport. Pommies are getting their knickers in a knot. Max didn't deserve a penulty. Simple. All I want is great racing. People make mistakes but the greats make very few. I'm not sure that Lando has what it takes to be WC.

Brother Perez ( faster car ) couldn't pass Alonso even with DRS who was on a much slower car on the long straight in Brazil 2023.

    It's very simple and a piss poor tactic at best, but they are using the journalists to attack Max because they know they can't beat him on an equal playing field. Max is Skywalker if I must say. Journalists love it and have always known to take things out of context and blow everything out proportion purely for ratings and sadly the monkey public chew it up. It just feeds on itself. Max just needs to do what he has been doing and crush the whole lot of them.

    My problem with the Austrian GP was Max's 3 moves under braking and the glacial response of the stewards. I disagree with Peter that Max was right on the limit. 2/3 moves were over and where not noted by the stewards. Then the track limits issue for Lando. Why did we not know that while the race was going on. Just crazy to me.
    With that said, Lamdo's collision was definitely avoidable and clumsy. Like Peter said, he should have just waited to turn in. Max may be at fault, but Lando could have played his cards better.

    • @weignerleigner3037
      @weignerleigner3037 5 дней назад +3

      Yeah like max did move slightly left, idk if he was still braking by that point, but all drivers do slightly turn left before they make the corner to open it up that is common practice. And how was max suppose to know lando would dive bomb and be right there when he did that? That’s the issue with divebombing. Not that you can’t divebomb but you can’t expect the car In front to react perfectly. But the amount of hate max is getting to me is absurd and just shows how bias and hateful the media is towards non British drivers. Guy makes one little move and all of a sudden he’s an immature driver who is dangerous and should be penalized to the harshest extent? Absolute absurdity. And Peter is correct. This is racing. I’d rather have this than a race where you have to pull over to the side slow down and let the guy pass you cus god forbid you try and defend. Everyone hating on max for 21 yet that was probably the most exciting season since maybe 98 when Schumacher and haikkonen were going at it. Imagine Brazil 21 max just sits there and let’s Hamilton pass. People would t even watch the sport anymore if that’s what we got. What this really is is British fans and max haters being upset that their idols are losing so let’s try and pull every trick out of the basket to nerf this guy.

      You know that moving under braking was taken out of the rulebook in 2017? It is not illegal by definition and what Max did here was not comparable to the situations in 2016 with Kimi and Seb, which situations led to the rule in 2016. In those situation Max blocked them, which was dangerous in my opinion. Apparently the stewards did not find his driving erratically in Austria.

    • @paskowitz
      @paskowitz 5 дней назад +1

      @@weignerleigner3037 while I understand that that is racing, I also think doing something that is against the rules, at least by the letter but perhaps not by the spirit, Three times is at least worthy of note by the stewards. Regardless of whatever they decide, Max should at least be notified that they're looking at it. I'm not necessarily advocating for the decision to be different, but there needs to be more clarity.
      Also, ultimately like I said, I really don't think Max deserves anywhere near the amount of blame he's getting and Lando had ample opportunity to make a cleaner move. For the record, his dive bomb was also stupid.

    • @paskowitz
      @paskowitz 5 дней назад

      @@zendel7030 Yes, they got rid of the rule that was made because of Max's tactics, however, the current language, while less specific and gives the stewards more latitude, is far too vague. Again, my whole point is that the stewards said nothing which is the problem. I don't really have an issue with the outcome, Max not getting a penalty, but clearly an incident like this should fall under consideration, and then be analyzed contextually. Perhaps the decision cannot be made quickly enough during the race, but a notice for investigation definitely could have been and should have been in my opinion.

    it was hard racing. Lando needed to make cleaner passes. Max is the king of hitting wheel on wheel. Its his go to - hitting flat wheel on flat wheel to bump others off so the car aero doesn't get touched. I've never seen anyone be able to do it like he does, i first noticed it that Baku race where him and Dan crashed, Max that whole race was doing it to anyone near him. Hes not pulled it out often since those early days but its still part of his arsenal. Lando was dive bombing to pass at turn 2 instead of waiting till turn three...every lap it was desperate and it ended in tears. Theyre both at fault for not racing cleaner.

  • @cattycats4
    @cattycats4 5 дней назад +1

    Landos car was not quicker than the RB20, until the last pitstop Max was making the gap bigger and bigger up to 8 seconds. After the pitstop Lando had new mediums and Max had used mediums and importantly Max through driver error locked up after 2 corners and damaged his tyre, this gave Lando a situational advantage and that was the only way he was able to catch the faster car.
    You can see in the sprint race how Maxs car was the faster car when Lando overtook with DRS and then Max was actually able to retake the position without DRS due to Lando not covering the inside line sure but for Maxs car to be there means it was just as quick but without DRS that Lando had.
    Therefore the way to overtake Max was to break very late as this is where the tyre advantage would be most effective.
    Max defended like he would defend against an AI opponent in a simulation, he did move under breaking twice, reacting to Landos move, he did turn the wheel left to make sure there wasnt a cars width and then he tried to force Lando onto the grass despite doing so in an unsafe car with traffic coming quickly from behind, very dangerous and petty.
    I dont think you realize how much time Max spends in his simulator, his defending was petty simulator defence, his remarks have also made it clear that he would rather crash than give up 1st place.
    The nail in the coffin is that Max didnt turn right for the right handed corner, he was lost in his obsession to keep 1st place and he needs to grow up a bit.
    The reason theres so much criticism is because Redbull kept telling him that he was entitled to everything and that he was driving perfectly, Redbull will destroy his confidence by being ego massagers rather than telling him the reality. Its far more of wanting Max to be on the right track for the future rather than him being disliked.

    I find it so very interesting that because you have a different view from many other pundits, you are now being described as unbiased and those with an opposite view are described as biassed. I don't think you are biassed at all PW. My opinion is different and just happens to align with other experts' views.
    In my view Max's trajectory was away from the apex with the intent of squeezing Lando. He squeezed him too much, and there was a collision. At the end of the day, the stewards thought he caused the collision. I don't have a problem with that.
    Now, has this been blown out of proportion? Yes. Could Lando have tried something else? Yes. Was his reaction totally OTT? Absolutely. Do I hate all this polarisation? Yes.

Then, he squeezed Lando nearly off the track on the right on the exit of the corner. Pure immaturity and petulance. Andrea Stella is correct.

    Max was dirty, Peter. The same kind of dirty he was in ‘21. The fact that you’ve chosen to take the opposite stance is surprising.
    It isn’t hard racing to move under braking. It isn’t hard racing to push your opponent onto the grass after touching.
    It’s childish.
    Also, having rules that protect cars on the outside is good. Or else you’d ALWAYS take the inside and push them wide.
    Edit:
    Saying that max isn’t dirty because other drivers have been dirtier is a really bad argument.
    Nobody care what Senna/Schumacher did to win their titles.
    Schumacher got disqualified in a season for being dirty.
    Times have changed in that nobody likes bullies anymore and the way you’re letting max off the hook you’re enabling abusive behaviour.

You think it's bad when drivers don't know history from the 50's and 60's although it's totally irrelevant to them, but you yourself can't be bothered to stay informed of what is going nowadays on Skysports or in "Drive to Survive". Also, you are wrong about DRS. Watching F1 in the 70's, 80's and 90's was extremely boring, except for the year when they had afterburner.
