These are absolutely fantastic, especially the features on the backpanels. I own a Peavey VYPYR and an older Peavey bass amp, and would love to have one of these to go with them!
I wonder if these exhibit the same foot switching behavior as the Valveking does where there is a 1/2 second delay when you switch channels with the foot switch. Also, once you plug in the foot switch, the volume decreases on the overdrive channel. I went through 3 of the valveking heads until I realized that this was a "feature" of that series. I bought and used the Peavey foot switch too...
I've had the Classic 20 MH for a few months and my opinion is that the cleans sound great...but the gain channel is way too gritty, gainy and fizzy. I've replaced the the tube in V2 with a 12AY7 (about 40% of the gain of a 12AX7) and that helps somewhat, but it's still difficult to find a spot where it the sound is a nice satisfying crunch.
Great news! I bought a Valve King 20 MH but even with two 12AY7s in the preamp section I could not dial in the bluesy crunch I was looking for in the lead channel. So I sold it after a couple of weeks. Looking forward to the C20MH. Would have pulled the trigger on a used C20 but I'm not a combo guy..
HouseofChains81 I love power tube distortion without much pregain distortion and even with a 12AU7 (only had one to test it) this more vintagy sound is hard to get with the VK20. So I figured it would be better to look out for some head that has a more classic / vintage circuit and sound.
Alexander Langer It's hard with the VK. I have the 1x12 combo and the distortion is too fizzy to begin with. I'd suggest (if you're looking for a "budget" amp) a Fender Blues Junior. I had one of them as well and it overdirves decently but at loud volumes. I've since moved on to boutique amps but it's worth a try.
Then thats almost a 2/3s JSX (or whatever Peavey calls it now). Unfortunately, they would cut too many corners on the lead channel. If they are going to cut corners and remove valves, then there is no point in getting one. I have a Blackstar HT-5 that is an imitation just like this mini 6505 is an imitation. I don't know why they just can't make it have the full exact 6505 pre-amp with a pair of el-84s and smaller transformers.
dragon7590 Cool. I have a Bugera 333xl which is based on the JSX and is a pretty awesome amp. For one thing, it cured my desire to own anything with the name "Marshall" on it. Now I want a real 6505 too. I think it sounds better than the JVM Satch went to, but haven't played a JVM.
I am buying the 6505mh as soon as I get my tax return. I've wanted the regular 6505+ for so long, but it's just too damn loud for my home and recording. This is absolutely everything I was looking.
So the speaker defeat acts as a dummy load? Can you run the head without a speaker connected? Also, can you disable the mic/cab simulation and record direct from the poweramp and use your own cabsim?
I've been shopping around for a 6505 for home recording use contemplating on the 6505 plus combo and then this mini came out.. Could I ask for a more perfect timing? Awesome! Where n when will this puppy a try?
When a powertube takes on the road to heaven it will go out with a 400 volt spark. Will this blow out be measureable through the direct out or thru the USB? Cause at that point it could kill a mixing desk or even your computer or soundcard?
She'd moved on to Tone Report, which is affiliated with a guitar retailer in Oregon, before getting pregnant. She made her last vlog before going on mat leave, but sort of implied it was also the end for Tone Report. Haven't heard a peep from her since.
Hey! I wanna ask a question because this man didn't say anything about the topic i will ask. There is a switch on the left. It says 220V/230V and 110V. Is it about the different electricity systems? For example, in my country, all amps 220V and their and also different HZ rates. But its different in UK or USA. When we buy an amp from an european country or usa, we have to use that amp with an device which changes the V and HZ rates. In this amp, they solve this problem by adding that switch or it has a different feature?
Will the 'XLR out' send what is in the effects loop ????? If it only sends out a dry signal then this amp is not so good for gigging. I would hope that it can replace micing up at gigs and send out whatever pedal you hit on your pedal board (i.e. delay, tremolo)
I have the 6506MH and the lead channel has enough gain between 9 o'clock and noon to play as brutal of metal as you can imagine. I feel like you get diminishing returns after that.
I have 2 MIA Classic 20 amps. I really dig them...converted one of them into a 2X12 with a mojotone tweed cabinet. Check my channel for results. I have owned them both for a long time and have had no problems. Made in China would make me a tad nervous...even at $499. Buy a used C20 for $250 (then replace the speaker) and call it a day!!!
Yeah i have the windsor studio and they repair it and at one point the valveking They change the amp the Peavey warranti is the best i don't care if it is made in china Peavey stand made good Gear at affordable Price but they can't compete if they made it In USA anymore it was 50years ago Come On and for carvin you have to pay shipping And other stuff !
I purchased Peavey when it was "Made in America". Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't purchase "Made in China". We need to support US workers. I research and spend a bit more to purchase "Made in the USA". I'm a bit disappointed Peavey has gone the route of others. I know it's all about $$.
+John Butler while I do agree in supporting Americans, it's just hard when the cost of manufacturing is so much cheaper in China. I've been hearing that the eventual automation of manufacturing could possibly bring production work back to the US, but that still doesn't solve the issue of supporting the American worker. That being said, China is fully capable of making great products. I have a Fender Modern Tele and I absolutely love it. Check out Tone City pedals as well, another Chinese made product that works amazingly.
+John Butler When US workers want to work for the same money Chinese ones do, I'll buy a "US" product. Chinese laborers are human beings and they work hard to survive.
+John Butler Chinese- Americans- Mexicans- Polish- the reality is they are all people just like us Americans are and need to make a living and feed their families too. Being American doesn't make you more human. If they can produce quality gear at a less expensive price, more power to them. THAT's what a free market is about- not nationalistic nonsense. When Americans start producing quality again I'll buy American- but not if it's not as affordable. Take Friedman amps- amazing tone and quality- but for $4000k instead of $499. For the average non touring musician playing at home, Peavey gets it. I understand your point, and I know you're not being racist- just trying to "support America" but I've just gotten to a point that says ALL people throughout the world need to eat and grow their economies. Buy the highest quality you can AFFORD, wherever it's produced- as long as the working conditions where it's produced are not harming the people producing them.
We need to keep some of the jobs here in the USA, otherwise our economy will tank again. I have in my guitar collection a very nice built Ibanez Joe Satriani Signature Model. The Made in Japan models are of very High quality.
Kelly Jackson Well I have not even seen one yet. Maybe if I can get one for a decent price. And Hawg does have a point re jobs - but I would say anywhere in the western world... anyway we shall see :)
Anything over $750 is made in America. Anything under is made in China. So all of their big heads like the 6505s, 3120, Butcher, and XXX2 as well as their Classic combos are made in America.
Hey guys, what is wrong with made in china? it is the exact schematic that peavey uses, components that peavey chose, etc... they must go to some QC right?
fred cook Hey Fred ! I really don't believe taking all the Democrats out of the government is the solution or is Democrats the root of the problem . Peavey is out to make as much money as possible with the cheapest materials possible and with the cheapest labor . China don't care about human rights or pollution of playing by the copyright laws and for companies to do business over there shows us US citizen that they care more about profit than product . Some preach global economy is best for our nation economy . Well it's best for big CEO's cause they can get cheap junk , make junk product with slave labor , sell it cheap and it don't last and the cycle keeps going . Make junk , junk breaks down , sell more junk . But Fred we can go back and fourth all day about who's to blame but me and you know we are tired of seeing "Made in China" on everything while this country is going down the drain . I look at it this way , I have friends who bust their asses in a factory making no less than minimum wage and no more the $9hr . They need that job . To think if Epiphone could open a factory in the USA and produce technology where they could make all their products better and faster here . Thing is China steal the technology and pay worker slave wages . It's not a business thing anymore , it's a human rights . People say if we don't buy these things then those people will have no income and starve . To me China and Mexico and India etc need to fix their problems internally and stop abusing people to make profit . This is why I hate the "Made in China " Slave wages , Pollution , no compassion for human life just so you can get a amp for $300 instead of a USA made for $800 . I'd rather save my money and get the USA built amps .
Great. Now I need both of these heads. Super glad Peavey came out with mini head versions of the amps that I like.
That Classic 20 head sounds like fun.
I have been using 6505 sim for years. so excited to hear the 6505 mini.
These are absolutely fantastic, especially the features on the backpanels.
I own a Peavey VYPYR and an older Peavey bass amp, and would love to have one of these to go with them!
OMMMMMG BEST DAY OF MY LIFE :O
6505mini

I bought and used the Peavey foot switch too...
$500? Well done, Peavey.
I have a classic 20, older classic 30 and now I NEED this new classic 20.

So I sold it after a couple of weeks. Looking forward to the C20MH. Would have pulled the trigger on a used C20 but I'm not a combo guy..
Did you try using AU7's?
HouseofChains81 I love power tube distortion without much pregain distortion and even with a 12AU7 (only had one to test it) this more vintagy sound is hard to get with the VK20. So I figured it would be better to look out for some head that has a more classic / vintage circuit and sound.

"Signing off for ... eh which company do I work for?"
I'd like to see Peavey sell a micro head that has the clean channel of the Classic series and the lead channel of the 6505. I'd buy it in a second.
Crunchifyable2 YES! The JSX was the most amazingly versatile amp I've played when it came out. I still really want one.
dragon7590
Cool. I have a Bugera 333xl which is based on the JSX and is a pretty awesome amp. For one thing, it cured my desire to own anything with the name "Marshall" on it. Now I want a real 6505 too.
I think it sounds better than the JVM Satch went to, but haven't played a JVM.
Crunchifyable2 killer, ya this 6505 micro is really the first thing I had seen from namm that was excited about and within my price range.
Yeah. I was excited until I heard the specs and the price. So back to wanting to get the 6505+ 60w combo. 100 bucks more and the authentic tone.
Cavin's V3M is 50/22/7W, has 3 channels, 3 modes each, separate EQ's, it's made in the USA and costs $550.
I am buying the 6505mh as soon as I get my tax return. I've wanted the regular 6505+ for so long, but it's just too damn loud for my home and recording. This is absolutely everything I was looking.
Beautiful guitar too!!
I wonder if they put that lame solid state buffer on the effects loop returns like on the 6505+ 112 combo
Nice work Michael!
So the speaker defeat acts as a dummy load? Can you run the head without a speaker connected? Also, can you disable the mic/cab simulation and record direct from the poweramp and use your own cabsim?
Can Peavey please remake the Classic 50H? I love that amp so much!!!!
I've been shopping around for a 6505 for home recording use contemplating on the 6505 plus combo and then this mini came out.. Could I ask for a more perfect timing? Awesome! Where n when will this puppy a try?
in and around the first 3 months of the year..
When a powertube takes on the road to heaven it will go out with a 400 volt spark. Will this blow out be measureable through the direct out or thru the USB? Cause at that point it could kill a mixing desk or even your computer or soundcard?
Classic 20: what does the clean channel sound like on 10?
I really like the direction of these newer Peavey amps. Chinese quality control leaves me a bit nervous, peavey windsor studio anyone?
It's Charles "and I'm NOT Rebecca Dirks" Saufley. :D
Glad that was clarified for us ;)
What ever happened to the Dirks? She has a kid and her career is over?
DSilvergun She went to another publication I heard... Something like the Tone Report or something
She'd moved on to Tone Report, which is affiliated with a guitar retailer in Oregon, before getting pregnant. She made her last vlog before going on mat leave, but sort of implied it was also the end for Tone Report. Haven't heard a peep from her since.
nylonsteel It's something Charles said before a video review he did a few years back. Always stuck with me. Made me laugh. :D
Where the hell is the volume control on the 6505+?
Hey! I wanna ask a question because this man didn't say anything about the topic i will ask.
There is a switch on the left. It says 220V/230V and 110V. Is it about the different electricity systems?

Paul Bateman He says in the video that the direct out is after the power section. FX loop is before the power section.
Ok cool. Thanks mate :)
I have the 6506MH and the lead channel has enough gain between 9 o'clock and noon to play as brutal of metal as you can imagine. I feel like you get diminishing returns after that.
+andrewt248 9 o'clock is the absolute sweet spot. Running a Pro Tone overdrive in front of it with bass tightening. Thing cuts like a lightsaber.
Do either of these amp heads have real spring reverb?
MSDI
@
Sounds fantastic
Please do the Vypyr Pro next!
Wow cool stuff classic &6505 Shure for that price it is made in china but with Peavey
Qualité control & warranti it's cool!
I am very surprised that Peavey didn't really pioneer the micro and mini amps
Buy both and use and amp switcher.
That digital reverb sounds like crap but otherwise these look/sound pretty sweet to me
I hope that 6505 mini sounds tons better than it did here!
that was pretty bad
The 6505 mini is so god damn cheap everyone and their brother is gonna grab one. (as they should)
Whylen did Hugh Laurie start demoing for peavey?! Lol
I have 2 MIA Classic 20 amps. I really dig them...converted one of them into a 2X12 with a mojotone tweed cabinet. Check my channel for results. "Based off our old Classic 20" No it isn't it's based off the 50 watt the old 20 had only 2 12AX7's for the preamp and diff circuit.
You would probably know better than the peavey rep himself.
Here, the 6505 mini sounds bad. I was disappointed when I found out it didn't have 4+ preamp tubes.
made in CHINA " even MUSICMAN"S new reissue amps are made in INDONESIA now .
Yeah i have the windsor studio and they repair it and at one point the valveking
They change the amp the Peavey warranti is the best i don't care if it is made in china Peavey stand made good Gear at affordable
Price but they can't compete if they made it
In USA anymore it was 50years ago Come
On and for carvin you have to pay shipping
And other stuff !

Agreed. Have you seen that new Purple Satriani guitar? It looks awesome!
theultimaterockr I've seen it but Purple isn't my color, I like my Red one better :-)
It all looked great until I saw the Made in China on the back of the head :-( Peavey Is anything made in the USA anymore?

Hey guys, what is wrong with made in china? it is the exact schematic that peavey uses, components that peavey chose, etc... they must go to some QC right?
Naasa Fikri cheap pcb and overall components can be really cheap to been able to have a mass production in a limited time.
Sylvain Alain and to reduce the overall cost production too.
FYI all your precious Vox AC 15's are made in China.
The Made in China print pisses me off . Just sad we can make shit here anymore .
THE DEMOCRATS WONT EVEN LET YOU MAKE TUBES HERE
IF YOUR REALLY PISSED GET RID OF THEM /ITS NOT SAD ITS WRONG CHANGE IT
