Just got this amp and I’m really enjoying it through a 1x12 with a Heritage Greenback. Super fun demo, amazing chops, your chord melody of Human Nature was outstanding - would love to learn that one day!
Great review! Also you rip as a guitar player in the sense that your ability to adjust your playing to create different dynamic senses for the settings on the amp is wonderful to be able to hear how the effects of the guitar player really changed the character of presentation of the amp itself!
I did it with the PV2 12 cabinet. Also run it into a 1960 Marshall 4x12. I run a custom tube preamp from the emulated speaker out into my daw as well as mic up both of the speakers which are both different on the 212. Talk about a sound. I had the original 1990 classic 50 2x12 without effects loop and that thing was a beast. I'm sad I ever sold that, but the good thing is I can drop this baby down to 5 watts or even go to silent recording without scaring my neighbors. What a rocking rig. Next is tube upgrades as well as probably modifying the mid-range circuit
Omg you're an absolute joy to watch. Excellent sounds from this amp, love the open back cabinet. Can't credit amp/speaker enough for the sound! And that emulated sound is really nice!
Great little amp and cab set up. Bought these recently, could not be happier Wonderful range of tones... Strat, Tele or Les Paul Jr... This little amp shines DI'd it into Logic ProX and it sounded great
I have the head delivery tomorrow…will be using an old Classic VT with 2 Eminence as my cab. Soooo stoked!!! Will be running a wet/dry with my Quilter OD 200 doing the wet.
That might have been the best music gear demo I’ve ever seen. You are an incredible player and you have great charisma. I’ve had my eyes on this amp for about a year now and this video sealed the deal for me, thanks.
Killer playing and demo. Really showed how versatile it is. I wish you also showed what it sounds like with HB. I guess just overdrives more. Thanks for a great demo!
Amazing Amp. Even more amazing guitar player. You have a great personality, and I love the guitar faces and passion with which you play. Ordered the head today!
Great Demo mate! You really showed the versatility of this amazing little amp. I've got the 2x12 cab, even more fun, yes it's a bargain and on 20 watt a blaster! Your video is full of excitement and enthusiasm 😄
I lucked into this same set up a couples years back on a trade and love it. Today due to this video I was inspired to remove the back. Just spectacular. Thanks for the thorough demo!
I have this exact setup in my bedroom. It's so cool. There isn't anything it can't do well much like the host of this channel. I keep watching reviews to see if i can find anyone that doesn't like it. None so far.
Any time I get bored with playing guitar, I watch a JLJ clip, and it reminds me of what's possible. I'm getting there... The things he does with his fingers on clean tone, that jazzy tele stuff... my goodness! Danny Gatton would be proud.
I just discovered how a vintage classic 50 sounds through an English vintage 30, and it’s awesome…what I dig about peaveys classic amp series is I lives right between fender and vox…not quite what everyone around here likes but it’s good to be different…really considering one of these through the same old v30…need to be a little quieter nowadays and the di…and the usb may be cool also…

I love the classic series. I've been playing a 50 2x12 for years. I really want a 20 now. That reliced pelham blue tele with brushed nickel hardware is dead sexy.
@@EshockT That's just not true. Other than the wear being fairly unrealistic, it took two seconds to look up his video about the guitar from a couple years ago where you can see it's always had the exact same wear.

An awful lot of people playing Fender guitars these days. I love it. I own a ‘67 Telecaster, ‘84 Flame Standard, ‘24 Telecaster Deluxe AP II, and an ‘24 Meteora Player Plus. Nothing better than a good Fender guitar. Nothing. No, really.

Great freaking video. Lots of b.s reviews out there, but your the real deal . Subscribed and thanks for sharing. You've inspired me. Thank you for that. Peace!
I have a 1991 4x10 Peavey classic-50 that I’ve used as my main gigging-amp since 2006. I don’t see any reason to “upgrade” … Except for the weight. It’s built like a tank. It’s a great amp though.
Man, really love how you play! You deliver far more energy than a nuclear reactor! Awesome! Liked a lot this little peavey head, highly versatile and sounds amazing. At the end of the day, we all love to play guitar and feel the real sound, physical, organic of cranked up amp. Great to know more about this amp head, "little box but giant sound". Wonderful video as many others I've watched from you. Keep that great energy playing! ( careful with your hearing ). Thanks!
Keeping an eye on this classic 20, I’ve a 110 & a 212V by Barefaced that would compliment it well in any venue. That DI is no slouch either, could carry this head just about anywhere & feel right at home!
Received this mini head four days ago and running it through a Barefaced Reformer 112 (open backed and 'tuned' cab for any who are unfamiliar). Going up against a drum kit in a couple of days. Can't wait! Fantastic demo too, thanks Jay.
Nice demo. The peavey classics are great amps. James Brown even got the feel right. Biggest surprise is if you plug these heads into a Marshall 4x12 w/greenbacks. Prepare to drop money on said 4x12 cab.
I've had one of these for a little over a year now, and it is very impressive for the size of the head. I find the reverb to be kind of horrible and artifact laden when palm muted, so I got a Secret Path reverb pedal and turned the reverb knob to zero. Got sick of the wickywickywicky sounds. I am running mine with the 2x12 cabinet. Big clean sounds with plenty of headroom.
I have always preferred an open back because most all my gigs are in bars and the band can just hear an open back better on stage. I do like to offset the loss of low end by using speakers that have more low end Eminence makes some really great speakers so you can get what ever you want be it British or American sound.
I gig with this amp, except I got the 2x12 matching cabinet. Well worth the extra $. People are amazed with the tone I get out of this amp. I play with zero pedals.
Thanks, a very useful and well-executed video! I've always played open-backed combos, but may experiment as you have done, if I go for a cabinet. I have the same Peavey head and am actually wondering whether to go for the 1x12 or 2x12 cabinet for live band use. We don't play all that loud so the 1x2 may be enough. But if I play safe and go for the 2x12 the weight is a killer at my age (I'm a senior weekend warrior, been playing since the 1960s when I saw Jimi Hendrix live...)
2x12 does fill in a LOT of space and has a nice tonal texture to it. I think of it more as a eq thing that a volume: the 1x12 is really direct and the 2x12 has this width that is really great
I have the 112 and I usually have the amp set at the 20 watt setting. It's a great sounding speaker, celestion vintage 30 inside the cab. Hope this helps you.
They used to make the Classic 20 combo back in the mid 1990s. It was "Made in the U.S.A". I have that amp, but it doesn't have all the nice features offered in the current head version (effects loop, emulated speaker out, reverb etc).
the same amp on Sweetwater does not indicate Celestian speakers. I see on your video it has a Celestian logo. Any knowledge of what is going on with that? I prefer open back myself with other 2x12's
So clearly you probably have much more expensive amplifiers that you use when you gig out, would you or have you ever use this on an actual gig and do you get what you need out of it or do you find yourself fidgeting between settings and continuously adjusting things? Can this amp be enough to make you happy or would you rather just spend a little more and get something else?
Everytime you end a solo and mute the strings - just like at 7:52 there is a strange reverse-reverb-sound. Is this coming from the amp or an issue with the recording?
That does sound different that how I set up mine, but I guess it depends on your speaker cab, board, and guitar set-up. If things really sound off, double check with your shop and make sure everything is operating 100%
Excellent Demo in showcasing the amps versatility.
