Need to see around chicken coup, behind green house, a peek of what’s in the green house, 14 containers along drive, gardens at back door, garden along sidewalk with circle walk, how cutting garden is growing on and what’s in the high tunnels. We all live somewhat vicariously through you and your garden and I need a stroll around. Benjamin is a sweet, sweet boy and you are not the only one who realizes it. Question, you said that they don’t like clay soils. I live in north Texas with black clay soil. Could you amend the hole and plant them? Thanks Laura, I know how much hard work is it to film and plant. Appreciate you taking the time to slow it down and show us all the steps. I’ve learned so much from you. When I read the title and saw Sumac I immediately thought “OH NO!!!! Why why why would you want them. Don’t do it!!” ... but then heard you say they are less aggressive spreader. I 🤞🏻🤞🏻 you are correct! I have no reason to doubt your expertise but my yard had the older species of Sumac and we removed them all a couple of years ago. We still have Sumac that pops up all over the yard and flower bed. I just can’t get rid of it!!! Prior to removing them, I agree, they had a gorgeous fall display and come spring the robins here in WI would eat the left over fermented berries. Watching them fly around drunk really was another show. 😆 None the less they are my nemesis!!

I have the old Sumac growing on the edge of my woods and yard. I really like the look of them and they do try to spread into the yard. Mowing keeps them in check. They give a bit of a tropical look to the edge of the yard.

Before I went to bed last night I thought, "I'm going to check RUclips and see if anyone posted a new DIY." What do I see when he came up? A new Q/A video of you guys. I thought, "Holy cow, they usually don't post this late." So now I will have check every night to make sure I don't miss a video...lol. You were talking about living where the humidity is high and I thought, Laura and Aaron would stroke out if you lived in Tennessee. When I go out to work in my flower beds, mow the lawn, trim limbs on the trees, or just sit on our deck, I feel like I drenched myself in a bucket of water from sweating so much. BUT... I would rather be hot than cold. Cold hurts this old woman's bones.

For anyone looking for an elderberry for a small garden, I just planted a black tower elderberry. They’re a columnar elderberry that’s supposed to only get three feet wide. Fingers crossed it will obey the tag and lend some great vertical interest to my tiny patch of a front garden.

Hi Laura, you have such a great opportunity on the new property to do a lot of true native planting of trees and shrubs., especially because you are planning to start a few meadow areas there too. The best thing you can do is plant both native flowers for food for the adult native insects/pollinators (bees, butterflies, skippers and moths etc.) and native trees and shrubs that provide habitat and food for the eggs and larvae. If you have some interest in learning about this I highly recommend Doug Tallamy’s book Bringing Mature Home. I love your videos and all your beautiful gardens of non-native plants and nativars, but it would be nice for you to consider more symbiotic native plantings in this area that you do want to be a bit more “wild”.

I have one of those Sumacs! She does like to send out babies and they are so easy to pull out if needed. I have pulled some out and moved them to other areas and they just grow! It is a beautiful tree with wonderful colors. I live in Maine, zone 5 and it gives such color and life by my back porch. I'm thinking about every time I see a baby, plant it in the front yard and have a sea of color. Love all your videos, have a blessed day..........Mary from Maine

I love these shrub choices. I currently have both on my property and they are just wonderful. The Tiger Eye Sumac is such a gorgeous plant. While it does send up little suckers every year, I find them easier to pop out of the ground than most weeds. Thank you for always providing such great content!

I just planted a Laced Up Elderberry that doesn’t get as wide as the Black Lace variety…so excited to see it grow. Also…I have 3 Tiger eyes in my yard…4th season with these….only pulled out a handful of suckers so no big deal. They are so amazing that it is worth a few suckers every year. 🌸👍🏻 I appreciate all the extra effort for the extra driving footage….makes the video flow so well. Thanks for all you do.

The Trees that have leaves brings a place for birds to make nest, and everygreen trees have nice branches house the Aanes year around humming birds threw the winter months. If you feed them 1 cup+ 1 Tablespoon Sugar with 1 Qt. Water they will stay alive in your trees for the winter. Please keep up all your Video's as I love seeing your work and many fliwers you plant in yard an cut flower garden.

Good morning Gardeners, Laura and Aaron.....in Central Texas/NE Austin we also have hot summers and high alkaline soil. We plant Prairie Leaf Sumac for the brilliant fall color (and not poisonous) HOWEVER. They have to be treated with borers once or twice a year. I hope you guys don't have to do so. Thank you again for the very best content on RUclips.

Hi Laura. As always I love everything you do. When watching The trees that you planted in the dirt field I thought of something. I thought it’s going to look gorgeous and I thought the more Christmas/winter like trees should be planted so they could be seen. For example along the edges and fences. It will be beautiful no matter what. Thanks for being who you are. More baby please if possible. 🤗🥰🌹🌼🌷🌻🌹🌼🌷🌻👍

Hi Laura. If the pathways in the new property are going to be grass - what will be covering the ground around the trees? Do you plan to use mulch? Or under-plantings? Sorry if I have missed this - I do watch every video, but somehow I assumed all the trees were going to be in a big grassed area, like parkland.

We have the old variety Summac here in our yard in Albuquerque nm, if they stopped these things from suckering by half us never plant them! These things are a 24/7 job pulling them out of everywhere. They are gorgeous, though ours don't fall color nearly as beautifully... if they did I may not be so frustrated by the work! Also got the two different elderberry... love those. In fact, I'd say our soil is darn near the same as yours. We have the exact same issues, and our water is hard too. Thanks Laura for all you share! Smiles and blessings...
