I highly recommend any mortuary student take a correspondence course before ever signing up for a college or university or if someone has never work at a funeral home. Its well worth the 600.00-900.00 course. It will get you educated first of all. No it doesn't cover everything but it does give you the basic and a ideal of what you are getting into. I took the Strafford courses in funeral service. Got all A and B. I also visited Gupton Mortuary College in Nashville, Tennessee and a person introduce me and show me the school and all thats involved. Show me where the student lived. Answer all my questions. Sent me information in the mail. My advise is find out is it right for you first. Get the info and make a decision. Now there are so many videos on the subject to get inform. Each state have certain requirement. Learn the laws for the state or states you wish to practice in. Its a great job if you love to help peoples in their time of need. Hardest job you'll ever love.

Im trynig to get a school in NYC but its expensive .I try do it online but I didnt finish because is not the same..Mom died and I was allowed to do her makeup and do her hair cut and style and thats how I started..to like it...I would love to finish .do they acept final aid?

It is hard for me to answer that question because I am not familiar with the exact school that you are applying to. Most schools do accept financial aid. Thank you for the information! I am really interested in mortuary school but there are no schools close to me. Is my only option moving somewhere, even temporarily to go to school? This is one of the reasons that I shied away from taking the course today.
