Thanks a lot for these videos mate. Servicing a bike is quite expensive in Australia as compared to my home country. I just cannot afford those costs for maintenance being a student. I have also noticed that the Honda dealers rip off a lot of money and are not knowledgeable about the bike. They didn't even know what has to be done at a 12000 km service apart from engine oil change and drive chain lube and cleaning. I had to show the owners manual to them and tell them to perform all the tasks mentioned in that. They claim to be Honda certified technicians but have no idea about the bike.
I love your videos. Reminds me of when I was a punk teenager and my neighbour was an old bike mechanic who would explain everything as he did it and taught me heaps about old triumphs and bsa’s
Fantastic video thanks sir, I have cb125f 2018 my engine runs perfectly and smooth since I started to use 100% synthetic oil 10w30 since I’m in uk and that’s what Honda owner handbook suggests, using Motul 7100 and I notice I huge improvement since then. The oil strainer i do check every 1k miles and the first time it was very clogged up and I was happy that I did,I did glue my gasket on the cover and just use some all purpose grease on the engine side,no leaks so far but I suppose it won’t last forever as the factory one did get shredded when I did fist open it
Thanks for the extensive video, it was very educational. I have a cb125f in 8700 km, bought it in 8300 km as a 3rd owner. Does it have the same mechanism as CB125E? I have no knowledge about prior maintenance, do you recommend to check strainer and centrifuge before changing the oil? If so, is it necessary to change the gaskets as well? Thanks in advance, cheers!
Hi! Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, the CBF is close enough to the CB for you to use these instructions ;-) Changing the gaskets is a good idea as it ensures you will not get oil leaks. When you clean the strainer and the centrifugal filter you will have to drain the engine oil so an oil change goes hand in hand with this task. Enjoy!
Every engine is different depending on how far it has travelled, how well maintained it has been and even what oil you use. (10w40 JASO MA or MA2 standard before anyone asks. I use Fuchs) In good condition these engines will generally use very little oil. Check every 500km or so until you get a feel for your bikes engine perhaps? :)
Great video, thanks . How much roughly to replace both of them gaskets ? and there part numbers please , im looking at buying a 2015 model , and i will do that servicing when and if i get the bike . Cheers .
Thanks! I'm glad if the video helped. As far as your oil, a 10w/40 oil that complies to JASO MA or MA2 standard will do the job. The standards the oil complies to will be listed on the label. My own preference is to straight mineral oils though they are getting harder to find, it's my outlandish theory that engines like mineral oils and gearbox's like synthetic oils. Though I have no real proof of this. My own preference is to Fuch's 10w/40 semi synthetic which can be found at most Supercheap auto stores. If their out of stock I will use Fuch's full synthetic. For running in fresh engines I use Hi-Tech Oils 10w/40 straight mineral oil (its a car oil but it complies to MA2). If Fuchs brand oil is available to you at your local supplier give it a go, otherwise give a few different brands a try and see which one you like! PS If Fuchs are prepared to give me a corporate sponsorship deal then thats different, you should only use their oil or else your engine will explode, your partner will leave you and someone will steal your thongs!! :)
excellent informative video thank you! COuld you point me in the direction of a digital workshop manual, I scoured the internet and its proving like hens teeth.
is that oil strainer the only filter for the oil? my old bike (it was realy old :p ) had one of those round red paper filters. Its time to change the oil on my "new" one now.
We lost track of the test bikes mileage a while back..... the frame has more miles than the engines (it has three engines we rotate through depending on requirements...) :)
What is a good aftermarket headlight setup ? Had a guy pull right out in front of me yesterday at 5 am . I don’t think he saw me,, the stock headlight on dim,, is not very visible. Ty
Sorry for the delay in reply Douglas, I've been contemplating the best answer. The fact is that at some point we are all going to enjoy the results of someone not seeing us on our bikes at least once in a serious fashion. And probably many more times than that. A large part of it is that car only drivers are looking for a car not a motorcycle. Their brains are not wired to think bike. (I had a knee reconstruction compliments of a car driver who looked straight at me and didn't see me). So a few suggestions - Yep, brighter headlight! I've checked ebay and there appear to be some bulbs that look compatible with the CB. The standard bulb is a Philips S2, which is a type BA20D in 35w/35w. If you do a search for a BA20D and pick out the brighter ones in 12 volt you might be a winner. There are even LED BA20D's available! A few well placed LED "foglights" or "driving lights" might help! Finally, wearing black leather, black helmet, and black boots on a black motorcycle looks really really cool. Hard to see though. Stick to bright colours and maybe even wear a hi-vis vest. The problem of visibilty is a big one and I dont believe theres a real answer when the majority of the vehicles around you are not looking for you but I hope this helps!
Earlier is better than too late or not at all! The strainer and centrifigual filter is often overlooked on these engines. The test bike is a 2012 model year that has about 45,000km on the frame. It has 3 engines, a 200cc, the currently installed engine which is 185cc and a third engine which is dismantled pending rebuild.
where do you get the drain plug washer that has to be replaced with every oil change ? I do not want to travel all the way to the dealership to get that.
The standard drain plug washer is made of aluminium and you can use it many times if it is in good condition. A car parts store will be able to provide you with a replacement rather than having to travel to a Honda dealer. If you don't have a sample to show them tell them it is for a 12mm bolt. Try to get aluminium if you can.
Im sorry mate but thats the only solution I can think of, changing the whole lock set. Have you spoken to Honda to see if you can have a replacement key cut off the VIN? This is possible with some vehicles.
@@highoctanecommuting3862 my model is not with installed with HISS or any Immobilizer!! It's a Honda CB 125 E 2014 make. I confrimed that with Honda. I had mailed them. Thanks and cheers!!
Hi Doug, Im just looking at the possibility of fitting an oil cooler. It would involve some drilling and reworking of the oil passage in the right hand outer crank case... not for the faint hearted. Possibly a very beneficial modification though.

How many km run when u clean this centrifugal filter
If you want to block the gears from turning use a rag or a copper coin / soft metal rather than a steel screwdriver / stops chipping of teeth
This is excellent advice!
This! I use a 6 inch length of copper pipe, flattened at one end... Or a bit of flat aluminium
Put the bike in gear and get someone to hold the brakes. Use an impact driver.
My dear father may he rest in peace always said if is will not move use a 18Lbs hammer LOL
Thanks also for the gasket you sent me with my clutch.
Your most welcome :)
Is it ok to scrape the outer casing with a knife? I’m struggling to remove my old gasket. thanks for this video also
I do not have gaskets. Can i use high temperature silicone instead?
Great video. I need to ask if this engine reduces oil at 1k km or not? And if it does then how much?

Hello sir , can u please tell me how to remove the handle grip screw , it’s turning the whole thing , I couldn’t install the hand guards
Cant seems to find the centrifugal filter gasket you highlighted in this video, can you give the part number of this small gadket please..

From a Honda dealer your prices will vary but around $20 will get both gaskets. You should buy a CB, they are fun!
Great Video thanx.
Which oil should we be using though a Full Synthetic / Semi etc? or stick with the Honda Stuff? Motul /Penrite

There does seen to be some provision for a kick starter doesn't there? I can't definitely say the parts are available out there though.

Avoid metal knives for removing old gaskets. You can cut an old credit card in half and sharpen one side by scraping on stone. Use that to scrape.
This is a great tip!
