Hey dude do you think its possible for a 29 year old to bring a 5:20 down to below 5 minutes? Like have you seen someone in this age group shave off over 20 seconds?
What's an argument for running the 1,500m? 3 and 3/4 laps? The lack of symmetry and completeness of that hurts my brain and triggers my nonexistent OCD. 1,500m feels like a DNF for a 4 lap race. We do races in laps or fractions of a lap if it's less than one. The split times are annoying since one is 75% of the distance as the rest. I hate the 1,500 as a distance. The rest of the world should do everyone a favor and do the 1,600 just to make the lap count and splits easier to follow.
Spot on.... you will not have the fastest times right away. My freshmen year times went from a 5:25 to 5:10 to 5:00 to 4:50 to 4:45. Steve Prefontane’s mom called my mom one day and told her what Steve was doing, like running even in the snow. Good memories for sure.

edit: Got a 4:58 👍
This is outside the scope of your channel, but I figured out who your doppelganger (look-alike twin) is.
After watching several of your videos I got to thinking, you look like someone I know....
His name is Paul Curtman. I'm not sure if he runs or not, but he's originally from Pacific or Washington, Missouri (just Southwest of St. Louis). He was a Missouri State Representative there but is now an investment broker for Edward Jones in Wisconsin. Just thought you'd like to know...
At this rate your denfinity going to reach 100,000k
He gets 200,000
how many miles were you running per week aprox when you hit 3:51? thanks!
Lol I know Pifer (not super well but we chatted every once in a while back when I lived in CO). Great Illinois guy. I can see why you were smiling when you were talking about him. He's such a cool dude but I bet you guys gave each other crap all the time lol.
It's weird that in the US we run the 1600m while the rest of the world runs the 1500m .
It’s weird for me when people ask what my mile time is because I ran it in a 2 mile so I don’t count it as a good time.
Nick, I love that run gum sweatshirt you’re wearing. Is there anywhere I can purchase it?
thank you! I get a lot of compliments on it. We will have it for sale at RunGum.com in the next few weeks!
This might be a weird question and idk of you answered it but if I were to buy rungum would I chew it right before my race or a few hours prior?
chew it right before as a performance enhancer. Just chew it for 5 min and then spit it out before the gun goes off.
Just Ran my mile in under 7 and a half minutes. I'm a freshman at life (im 36).
When your sophomore high school best is my sophomore college best😭 well I've only ran it once since high school and I just became serious about running 6 months ago but still
I would like to see you convert to a marathon runner. You're fast. Good job.
Totally different events, with almost no carryover. Nick is an elite mile and 2 mile runner, but would not be nearly as good over 26 miles.
for how long you had been running in general before you run 4:35?
I had run 2 XC seasons before that and I grew up playing soccer which I think is a very good way for kids to develop strength and speed
I am wondering have you really been running consistently for your whole life did u have any surgeries?
Did you even watch the video dude
Hi Nick. Today I got a new PR mile time of 5:11. My goal is to get sub 5 by the end of the season (four weeks). Do you think that is a possible goal. How can I reach that. Thanks.
I am 12 years old and run 6:40 trying to run 6:20 at my next track meet tomorrow
What do you think about Ingerbritzen? Jacob
What does the taurine in Run Gum do in the body? Why is it in your ingredients?
"Taurine is a type of amino acid found in many foods and often added to energy drinks. Many people take taurine as a supplement, and some researchers refer to it as a "wonder molecule." Taurine has been shown to have several health benefits, such as a lower risk of disease and improved sports performance. It is also very safe and has no known side effects when taken in reasonable doses." Source: Healthline.com
What were the toughest training sessions, you did in general?
It’s crazy that you were a 14 year old sophomore in high school.
Do you think running in Idaho you ran great times but if you were say just across border competing in Spokane that you confidence in winning races would be the same?
I learned to WIN races in Idaho, but wasn't very challenged. Hard to say what would have happened if I was raised in a different state.
I ran at a small school maybe could ran faster if at 4A but when I started college as a freshman people with way faster times I beat head to head cause confidence in winning.
1000th like!
I’m pretty fit and have been doing calisthenics for about 2 years, but when it comes to cardio I’m terrible. I do a 10-11 min mile and have a lot of trouble with cardio things. Any tips?
Mileage and workouts
It's the hat worn sideways that speeds you up.
Nick, do a video you juggle soccer ball.
What’s would u say ones time would be to become professional for the 3200?
Best ive even seen is 61 second quarter mile
U was 15 with a 1:57 god dam
How much mileage were you doing throughout your high school career?
great question! That is actually the subject of my next #AskNick video. That vid will drop Monday at 6 AM Pacific!
Nick Symmonds awesome
I'm a sub 4 miler if you convert my 100m time. it's basically the same thing.
@Some annoying person I was joking. Reading this back it's not very clear though
As a 34 year old, how can I drop my mile and half to under 9 minutes, thanks.
How many days did u lift per week in college? Long or short sessions?
two short sessions each week in college
Which one of those systems got go the moon 😉
and which one to Mars?
Love your vids also you Look a little like pewdiepie!
Thanks! First time I’ve heard that one :D
GOD BLESS!!! JESUS LOVES YOU!!! ❤️☺️🙏
How far will run 70 miles per week for 4 months drop my 21:30 3 mile to a 17:00?
If you're a 21:30 3 miler then you're almost certainly going to get injured running 70 mpw
@@brandonlam6360 what if you build those 70 miles slowly
@@alanyu6846 it's possible, but I'd talk to a coach or a pro if you're looking to get super serious.
I thought u ran 356??
Sorry commented before watching the vid
should I do cross country or track ?
Both
Nick Symonds---you need to learn to live NOW-----THE PAST IS GONE FOREVER& THE FUTURE DOESN'T EXIST YET.
Don’t you mean 3:59
1500m conversion
No, I don't. I ran 3:56 for a full mile in 2007 and my 3:34 from Monaco converts to a 3:51. Did you even watch the vid homie?
Nick Symmonds I’m sorry I was in school when I commented and was familiar with your Wikipedia PRs 😂dang it sucks to be roasted by you
@@josephkennedy1954 haha nah my fault for putting the vid out during school hours. Appreciate you following my career!!!
Nick Symmonds No lol it means the world to your subscribers that you come and take your time to make videos for each and everyone of us even when people hate on you you’re still there to support the community and give information that is very rare and valuable! Overall very appreciative!
A 70 year old man has a faster marathon time than you
I bet there are a lot of 70 something that have run faster than me in a marathon
Only about 1400 people have ever run under 4:00 for a mile, and the first was 65 years ago. Think about how many people have lived since 1954, come and gone, and you'll realize how small your chance of breaking four is. Look at him. He's naturally running 4:35 as a 15 year old. He had those rare genes.
That's extremely unusual.
This guy in the video and every elite runner is like an outlier.
