- This is my first attempt at building any type of engine. If all goes well I will be posting a step by step series showing by 1679cc air-cooled VW rebuild!

AA pistons are nice and so are their heads. Depending on the use you plan to give it might be better to use a new case. If you can spring for a counterweighted crank the better. DPR Machine Shop in California has great ones as well as Scat. And like I’ve said before in many cases getting a new fully built long block from Scat is a great alternative; they use good quality parts and assemble them right and you are assured of having something that will give you many years of service. Looking forward to the adventure.
Yes! I noted your comments on buying a long block, but I’m too stubborn and want to build it myself. There will be a lot of learning by failing
I do have a counterweight crank from CB , will use AA pistons and AA heads from your recommendation

You bought a used case? Looks like it’s been machined as well or did you have it done? Make sure to clean that case really well before assembly.
Yes I bought it used and it’s align bored.
@@onehappykombi oh cool how many times has it been aligned bored? The old one had already been aligned bored so many times, it’s crazy to think. I need to take my case apart. I think I spun a bearing cuz it’s making a lot of noise. I need a new case but going to buy a new one maybe but they cost around $1,000!!!
