- This week Plant Lovers time for an annual romp through my EVER growing Sarcochilus orchid collection! I was trying to get a variety of colours and forms to form a mass of different cascading flowers.....seems I've erred on the red side! And one of the reasons for that is seedlings are often crosses that have yet to bloom....so it's lucky dip! Anyway, I'm loving all these and hope you do too. We touch on basic care in this video but I have made repotting and basic care videos for Sarcochilus and you can find them all in this play list: • SARCOCHILUS ORCHID CARE

Hi Matthew, greetings from Germany, love your videos and your personality, learned also a few new kinds of orchids because of you. And you remind me that I should get my own 张小泉 scissor next time when I visit my parent in China. There not so many Sarcochilus available hier in Germany but I will get my own hartmannii one day
❤
Thanks for finding me! And yes, those scissors are fabulous! Good luck with the Sarcochilus hunt!
I’ve never seen someone grow Sarcs indoors before.
I have the Hartman white and it’s under my pergola with 50 % shade cloth, and flowers beautifully. Now I’ve bought 8 more varieties from a orchid grower in Walpole can’t wait for them to get a little bigger will put them in baskets. Thanks for your info inspiring. I live in ,W.A. I live in Perth.
Thanks for watching - good luck with your new plants!

I was thrilled to visit the Orkneys many years ago but would have loved to come to the Shetlands. Scottish heritage (Sinclair)
They are absolutely delightful! Super cute flowers. Great video!

Lovely display of blooms there Matthew😊. This genre is one I have as an “add on” in 2023. Happy to hear what I have been reading matches your experience. Have a wonderful weekend ❤🌸

Wonderful show!!
Gorgeous plants 👍
Thank you for watching!
I have just started growing sarchochilus orchids, I have six at the moment and find they like growing all year round in my shade house. You certainly know how to grow them, they are beautiful .😎
They are a very rewarding group - and forgiving!
Beautiful dainty blooms. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Magnificent collection. I adore plants with multiple cascading spikes and yours all fit the bill. Beautifully grown. Two years to flowering from seedling? Bonus!
4 weeks holiday, yay!!!
@@GardeningatDouentza Lucky you!!!!
Yes - they are such good value and SO late maintenance!
Hello Matthew, they are so pretty!! I especially love the burgundy one with the spots on the underside. I am going to try one once were are done with winter in my part of the world!! Thank you.
Good luck! Tough and easy - very rewarding!
Love your channel. I grow native orchids here in Echuca, Northern Victoria in a shade house, and exotics in a winter heated greenhouse. I have to be careful here in Echuca as we get very hot conditions in summer but I have had great success with our natives in my conditions. Keep those great videos coming , I enjoy them immensely.😎
Thanks for watching - I'll try!
Your Sarcs are just beautiful Matthew! 😍 I’ve just started a collection. I hope mine flower as well as yours! I’m in Sydney. I love your videos ❤️
Thanks for watching - they'll love Sydney!
Hi Matthew,
After watching this vid I really liked the Sarcs, I happened to pop into a local nursery today and what did I see in their shade area ?
Of course had to bring them home, so I have acquired my first two Sarcochilus 😂
Congratulations!!!! Super easy and super rewarding - good luck!
they are absolutely lovely!! I've been trying to grow them for two years now. Although I have ideal conditions, I cannot say that I have succeeded much. I see how good roots have grown, but the plants do not grow well. leaves look dehydrated and wrinkled. the soil is always wet, with good roots .. for me it's a mystery.. but yours looks great! very nice to look at them🤩👍
Ah...well perhaps try keeping them on the dryer side - I know that sounds counter intuitive if they look dehydrated - but they are not an orchid that likes to be kept moist/damp. Good luck!
YOU made me buy one. As I couldn't make up my mind which to choose I simply bought an 'Astrid' (name of a colleague). Turned out to be a Hartmannii look-a-like, white with red center, really cute.
I take FULL responsibility! Glad it flowered for you!
My sarc leaves will burn when they’re getting 10am - 11am sun this time of year. I’m also in Melbourne. I’ve actually brought mine inside and under a grow light. I’ll put them out again in March, see how they do. Beautiful collection, Matthew. Good work!
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. Just ordered 2😱
Well done! They are so easy and gorgeous - good luck!
lovely 🥀🥀🥀
Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful collection of surcocylus! Love all those blooms, thanks for sharing. How did you make them all bloom so many?
Well they tend to look after them selves in the right conditions! Thanks for watching!
Hi, tell me what is your sacrochilus temperature? You have magnificent sacrochilus flowers.
I think we covered that in the video. Outside and therefore variable from about 2oC at night in winter to 40oC + on a hot summers day.
if I'm not mistaken, no one is hybridizing the Sarcos in Britain (commercially at least). Pre-Brexit, there were two individuals that were importing flasks direct from Australia and would then sell on the seedlings.
That's a shame...are they still available though?
@@helloplantlovers my understanding from Lynn Smith is that no one has imported any since Brexit so no new ones. I think some grow outs were available when they had the show at Malverne this year, but that's it.
@@michaelmccarthy4077 Oh that's a shame!
