    Can you do a video on Pav. He's a new Spider-Man he hasn't seen or been through as much as Gwen, Miles or Hobie, and it was because of them that he didn't have to go through his horrifying cannon event like they did. I think his innocence is refreshing, but I also enjoy the fact that they didn't make him so aloof that he can't take a serious moment seriously. He knows when to be playful and when to be serious. I like his character alot and again I find him to be refreshing. I hope we learn a little more about him and see his character develop in the next movie. I can't wait to see what direction they go in for him and Hobie.

    I totally agree with the hobby part.
    Very underrated part in character writing.
    When you're done giving them backstory, motivations, and abilities, characterization is the final touch to complete a character.
    It's the same as making a setting feel "lived-in" to make it not just exist for the plot but make it feel like an immersive and real place.
    Characterization is, in my opinion, what makes characters feel like actual people, people who have lives, interests, and goals outside the story.

    I think another key consideration when writing female characters is ensuring they aren't merely love interests/rewards for the male characters. A trope consistently seen in films.
    The fact that Gwen has her own motivations, and appears to have her own hang-ups/romantic interests in Miles, lends me to thinking that if this romantic subplot does play out it'll be a success for them both, rather than a 'get the girl' moment for Miles.
    (I'm also hoping that the hinted at love-triangle between her, Hobie and Miles is swiftly defused by Hobie coming out to Miles - as he's gay on the comics, and despite the diversity on show in the film, there are no overtly LGBTQ characters in the film. But then, it is approved by the CCA...)
    It definitely looks like Gwen is going to be fully in control of her own agency in 'Beyond...', which is something that I think should also be considered with female characters - do they have agency? And whilst Gwen often doesn't in 'Across...', that lack of agency is a significant part of her struggle and overall arc.
    (I absolutely love this film, and Gwen/Hobie in particular)

    • @simeonwrites
      @simeonwrites  Год назад +24

      I think that's a really great point. You could argue that because this film starts and ends with narration by Gwen that it is now a dual protagonist story and she's as much of a main character as Miles.

    • @Carlton17277
      @Carlton17277 Год назад +16

      I think there was no love triangle at all. I think gwen is only in love with miles and always was from beginning to end. I think the reason why Gwen said miles was her only friend since Peter died and that hobie is different. Is because miles is the only person she has grown close to and has become passionate towards him. I think the reason why hobie is different because though he has her back, he is not close to her like that. But with miles he is emotionally understanding and shares a deep connection with her.
      U don’t know maybe when Gwen and miles get together they might be in charge with their own agency at the end of beyond like in earth-8.

    • @joshsocshift
      @joshsocshift Год назад +11

      @Lewisarampatzis538 Oh, I agree there's no love triangle. But Across sets up the expectation of one, particularly in Miles's mind - Gwen staying with Hobie, leaving clothes in his universe, borrowing his shoes, talking enthusiastically about him to Miles.
      I think the relationship between Gwen and Hobie is purely platonic; he's just looking out for a vulnerable friend who's ran away from home.
      But from Miles's perspective, he's a romantic rival, and I think it would be cool if they diffused the situation by Hobie being like 'nah mate, I'm gay'

    • @Carlton17277
      @Carlton17277 Год назад +6

      @@joshsocshift yeah, I would not say it’s platonic though don’t get me wrong there might’ve been a little romantic tension but not too deep. Gwen talked to hobie about miles all the time and she said to miles that she crashes at hobie’s place sometimes not all the time. Which means she could’ve been hanging in Peter, Peni and Jess dimensions as well. Trust me, Hobie will be the guy to help with their relationship because he knows how much Gwen loves miles.
      Also I like to say that the reason why Gwen wears chunks because miles wears Jordans (which shows her obsession with him).

    Amazing breakdown. Gwen is my second favourite character in the movie. I just like how the movie is miles 50% and the half is Gwen.
    I think what also makes Gwen such a great character in this movie is her relationship with miles. What I’m going to do is breakdown down Gwen’s feelings in their relationship from first to second movie (know this is going to be long, especially for ATSV because it shows Gwen’s feelings more than Miles). Let me know if you want me to do miles as well.
    ITSV: Gwen meets miles a week earlier with her spider sense telling her to head to visions academy to meet miles. At first, we get to see they have some sort of chemistry but it doesn’t dive in that much. I really like the bus scene because miles shows Gwen something she hasn’t had for such a long time which is affection and understanding which took her by surprise. Gwen seemed to always believe in him even though she doubted him a little and that’s why she was proud that he figured out at the end. In the end of ITSV, Gwen and miles despite the way they looked at each other and Gwen taking awhile to shake his hand they decided to ended things being friends which I like because they both don’t want to rush things ( I think that’s there friends for now moment, just like in the comic). I like to think in the first movie their friendship was platonic. But u know what really threw me off is the pink background when Gwen was looking at the photo she took with her and miles and pink is the emotion of love. (this is my opinion, miles was the first one to have a crush on her but gwen was the first one to develop feelings for him).
    ATSV: You know what I love about the beginning it literally showed gwen puckering her lips imagining to kiss miles before falling in the collider (showcasing she has fallen for him). With her playing the drums cause she can’t stop thinking about him. Gwen keeping the photo of miles and her is like a natural treasure to know why she continues to be Spider-Man is because of miles and at the end comes back for it. I loved how she didn’t care about Miguel story and just wanted to know about the watch. When gwen appears in miles dimension it shows us the pink background like in the first movie . Gwen saying “in every other universe Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man” is probably her confessing her feelings for him but has to reject it. Plus I think the reason why she calls miles a friend in this movie is not only suppress her feelings but also to show that he is only she feels close to and loves him. Gwen holding miles hands to get him out of danger and being worried that she lost him. With her admiring him that he is amazing. With her also showing jealousy between Margo and miles. Now despite breaking down all these things, the one scene that stands out is her conversation with her father because that was start of her arc. I like how she saids that she can’t help the people she loves the most and they can only know half for who she is. To me, she is referring to these three people Peter, Father and Miles. With her losing peter because he didn’t know her. Gwen hiding the truth from her dad that she was spider women and has to let her father die. But mostly miles, she truly loves him but has to limit herself for falling for him because of the canon event of gwen Stacy and the truth she needs to keep from him of not meant to be Spider-Man and that his father was supposed to die. With her also saying she is on her own because she knows she hurt miles and her being in tears and can’t bare to imagine losing miles is really heartbreaking and traumatic and also I love that despite her not knowing what to do at that moment, she knows that she can’t lose miles that’s why she meant to hurt him but instead protect him from everything. But when she breaks the canon event of her father it gives her hope that she can do both. Save her father and miles. At the end in ATSV, we see Gwen sensing miles from another universe just like the first movie with her sensing to head to visions academy. At the end of Miles’s parents and Gwen’s conversation she told “one thing I learnt from miles it’s all possible” which means that nothing is impossible from doing both, breaking an canon event but mostly having a relationship with him without ending in a tragedy. That’s why she forms her own band to save the one person( miles) who she is willing to go war for just to save him.
    This is a good love story between these two characters and I think will get together at the end of the trilogy. Also love self love and calling from the soundtrack really shows Gwen’s character. Again let me know if u want me to do miles side.

    There are two kinds of strong female characters. Those who are strong, female and characters without those being the only 2 traits they have. And those who only have those 2 traits. Gwen and others like her are brilliant strong female characters. Because they are human. They aren’t perfect beings. Because that would make for a supremely boring character *cough* Captain Marvel *cough*.
    Gwen is a strong female character without that defining her. If that is the only thing that defines a character. Well I haven’t come across one yet that isn’t incredibly dull.
    Strength is not what defines a good character. Weakness is what defines a good character.
    There is a great relatively new manga out called Akane Banashi. And I will now give you a little excerpt from Chapter 70 of it:
    “Up until now, I thought my dad’s art was incredible. It was a dream I chased after. But because of that, I lost sight of the true nature of his art. My dad isn’t strong like them [Referencing masters of Rakugo she has met]. But that’s exactly why the people in my dad’s stories feel so kind and warm. That’s it. I realise now, that it was dad’s weakness I loved. Rakugo stories are not tales of heroism. They’re full of proud men, drunks, lechers and fools. They tell tales of ordinary people who are far from perfect, failing in various ways. And in stories like that, even weakness can be a weapon. It’s fine to be weak. It’s just another flavour of the human experience.”

      But Just because canon event isnt real, doesnt mean miguel is wrong aboout leting 1 person die to save the world.
      I hope Miguel and Miles find the middle ground, because it would be dissapointing if miles ends being the only who was right.
