    I would love to buy a freeze dryer! Maybe next year, fingers crossed!
    I’ve never tried freeze dried watermelon! Sounds yummy. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries, I’m drooling!😂
    Love looking at all the brilliant colors on the shelves! I ended up with 40+ pumpkins, I give them to my goats and chickens, they love them!
    I never heard of those boots. I’m a big muck boot fan. I’ll have to look into hisea!
    lol I too had an excellent cucumber season! I have so many away so they didn’t get wasted, of course the chickens enjoyed them too. 😂
    Peppers are something I’d love to have a huge supply of because you’re right so many things to make with them! Sounds like a yummy spicy chili is in order😂
    Oh my gosh look at those gorgeous jars of canned goodness!
    I wish I could taste the grape juice too😂
    Mmmm😋the peaches look delicious!
    I do some canning but I’d rather have the freeze dryer because it’s true canning is a labor of love!
    You have a nice place to store your extras!
    Oh yum all those sweet potatoes!
    Ooooh can’t wait to see you make soap!
    Listen these days you need to have a very large pantry of everything you can think of because times are more tumultuous than people understand! World war 3 could happen any day with how things are going if ppl are paying attention!
    Lucky you getting deer this year! I wish azure was in my area. I keep inquiring but no go so far😢 Your freezer looks so organized! I didn’t know you could freeze corn like that! My potatoes didn’t do so well this year.
    Lol kitty wants goodies😂
    What a great pantry!! You are very blessed and happy to hear you’re prepared for anything! God bless!❤

    We are working toward having a backup pantry; our grocery stores constantly run out of things.
    Placed a grocery delivery order yesterday, and they were out of eggs...
    (There goes the pea salad!)
    Love how you've set up your supplies--well-stocked, organized and so pretty!🖤

      That's part of why we wanted our own store of things! Stores are constantly out of random things and I'd just prefer to not go without. Have fun setting up your pantry!

    I did the zucchini spears as well. Watching your video I wondered if it would be better to blend the zucchini and pipe it onto the trays into sticks and THEN freeze dry?? I would add some salt or ranch to mine as well. I think it might make that puffy texture that a veggie straw has. I sell freeze dried candy and make jam so am
    Excited for January ( the off season) to get FD more foods for our family. Hope I remember this summer to try and make the blended zucchini puffs/sticks! Who knows? Maybe I might actually BUY a
    Fee zucchini just to practice it!! Great pantry tour; thanks for sharing!
    Also, do you fry or blanch your okra before freeze drying?

    Do you like the taste of freeze dried carrots? When I freeze dried mine, I found the taste off tasting. I was just wondering if it was just me. Yhx

    I am in awe of your food preservation. Absolutely amazing! I love water bath canning, I just need to learn pressure canning. One of these days I will! Live the video, so inspiring!

      @diaryofahomemaker  3 дня назад

      Thank you so much! I think pressure canning is almost easier than waterbath canning. Just gotta watch things very closely so it's done properly. But it is so nice having shelf stable food! Definitely worth it.

    I’m curious about how you’re dealing your jars. Are you using O2 absorbers? Are you vac sealing the lids? I have had some things go soft in my jars and I’m trying to figure out why. I am getting some great ideas from you for using things. Thanks!!

    • @Mel-vu9ss
      @Mel-vu9ss 3 дня назад

      Edited to ask if your blanching your green beans first? Also, are you rehydrating your onions, say if you’re wanting to sauté them? Thanks again.

    • @diaryofahomemaker
      @diaryofahomemaker  3 дня назад

      I have not been using o2 observers. I have them, but I am a little intimidated by them. I had vacuum sealed some jars but I had issues with the lids coming undone. I now just put a lid on and really crank down the ring so it is very tight. I am checking jars all the time to make sure things are still tight and I can hear the "crunch" of the things inside to make sure nothing has gone soft. We always put extra dry time on our freeze dryer, we want to make absolute sure things are dry. I hope this helps!

      @@diaryofahomemakerthank you. It does help. I’m still watching your video. You and I think very similar when it comes to food and feeding our families. Your FD portion was very interesting to me.

      One more quick question. Are you blanching your freezer FF’s?

    • @diaryofahomemaker
      @diaryofahomemaker  3 дня назад

      I am not blanching my green beans. I think you certainly could, we chose to take that shortcut because we only had one jar. Perhaps I will try blanching them next year. I do dehydrate for some things, it really depends on the dish. For soups and chili I just toss them in there. If I am making ham and beans, for example, I will make sure I add enough water so the onions do rehydrate in there and aren't taking away from the liquid. needed to properly cook the beans. For something like fajitas, yes, I am rehydrating.

    Thank you for sharing, I am beginning stages so this is so helpful. I was always curious when you said storage upstairs. I so want a freeze dryer! Is yours in your kitchen?

    • @diaryofahomemaker
      @diaryofahomemaker  3 дня назад +1

      I'm glad it was helpful! Yes, we have limited space so ours is in our kitchen. We put the drain below the counter in the cabinet and run the drain tube through a hole in the side of the cabinet so it's all concealed. We love our freeze dryer, can't recommend it enough!
