And btw they are building a fast railway network system from Belgrade to Nish and in the future such exhausting bus rides will only be a choice of the traveler :)
The thing you took a bite on at 5:30 is called "piroska" (pronounced pee-rosh-ka). It's sourdough stuffed with cheese (usually the same kind of farmers' cheese that goes into burek) and deep-fried in oil. Not on the most healthy side, but really good stuff. I am originally from Serbia, but I live in the US. Whenever I travel to the old country, my must-do is to get a taste of Serbian bakery that I miss so much.
Oh it must have sucked to have such unpredictable transportation. I haven't used inter-city buses since corona started, before that everything was more or less on schedule, but I guess now when they are down on passengers and profit they canceled some lines. Would have been nice if they wrote it in the schedule though.. Anyway, great video and I wish you a good time in southern Serbia :)
Dangerous is not what Serbia can be called. Its quite more secure than many west countries, and you can walk out in 5am or come back from party, or date, nothing will happen, you'll be safe. Its hard to describe to someone that was under west antiserbian propaganda for years.. Has to be experienced so you can believe. :)
Bus trips can really take it out of you. I did a bus journey from Guayaquil in Ecuador to Lima Peru, took nearly 29 hours with a border stop. But its what travelling is all about. Love your vids.
Awesome trip, it brings so much memories from times I was at high school. I did lot of bus travels as basically it was only option for school trips and such back then. If you were exhausted after this ride, imagine a ride from Subotica to Herceg Novi in Montenegro it can take up to 20 hours, with only 3-4 stops. When you reach mountains in MNE you just want to jump into those clutches and end it right there... :D Hehehe did that ride by bus twice, after that preferred train ride which takes a about same time, but you at least had more space, could move freely and ofc open window, smoke and enjoy endless beautiful scenery! ;) Ahh, good old times...
If you are hungry and want to try Serbian barbecue "southern style", one of the best places is "kafana Mrak" The place looks rather underwhelming, but any lack of decor is compensated with fantastic food, actually one of the best in Serbia
Hello Molly and Matt have a wonderful and blessed day wow you have a lots to travel for one day you made it thanks god take care guy’s and enjoy your nice and beautiful adventures and good you got a nice to stay just rest and enjoy god bless you both 💖💖💖👏👏👏👌👌👌

Kosovo is the southern part of Serbia, there are monasteries and there are the roots of Serbs as a people. Kosovo is Serbian and will always remain Serbian. Long live the Serbian people.
Now, since you like burek, I hope you'll find that Niš bureks are better than those in the North. Generally, more south you go, the better burek&ćevapi are.
To avoid all this hustle with buses you should have just got a rent a car (Sombor Blgrde 2hours, Blgrde Nis 2hours)..small car is 20e per day or even less....enjoy the rest of the journey and avoid public transport All the best
@@dabbleandtravel Im of to UK for couple of months, so maybe you can give me some tips....hhehehe....but not for London, know everything overthere....some countryside...
@NostaIgia will be based in London (Victoria), but would like to see some countryside, something that is not so common for every tourist, some hidden tips
Currently, high-speed railways Belgrade - Budapest (Hungary) is being built, and the part on the route Belgrade - Novi Sad will start operating at the end of the year (the ride will take 27 minutes from Belgrade to Novi Sad). Construction of the high-speed railway from Belgrade to Nis should start at the end of this or the beginning of next year (it is part of the project of the high-speed railway Serbia - Greece). Bus arrivals have been disrupted due to major road works and construction across the country and the construction of a new bus station.
We will see about that really once it is finished. That part should be better in any way, but at the same time you will need to take about a hour and half train ride from Sombor to Vrbas (50km apart) to catch that "fast" one. We needed to sign petition so they don't close that part from railway network for good, so I doubt there are plans for it's restoration, which is just sad.
@@RitschardPaul I do not believe that they will shut down that line, I believe that this high-speed railway will pull to modernize the rest of the railway throughout Serbia and build it where it is needed. We'll see.
@@amarillorose7810 I hope. I'm just saying because I'm living there, so I can see what is happening actually. Just single railway line is getting modernized in 2 stages, and it is not even high-speed, as max speed is only 200km/s which is ridiculous in 21cent, but for Serbia it is enough I guess.. Other lines connecting hubs are in such a terrible state that has to be rebuilt, not just repaired. Cheers!
@@RitschardPaul 200km/s is high speed railway, it is certainly much faster than everything we have had so far and the countries around us as well as many countries in the EU do not have that either. Only France, Britain, Italy, Germany and Spain and few more European countries have high-speed trains (from 200km/s and above).
@@amarillorose7810 200 km/h is not a high-speed railway but a faster normal railway. 250+ can be called a high-speed rail and that is for passengers only, here we have a mixed freight-passenger railway. Serbia doesn't need high-speed rail, it is even disputed if it needs a 200km/h one since building it costs much much more than say 160km/h and has different signaling and regulations which require regular maintenance. Whatsmore the train ticket will be more expensive than the one for 160 km/h and the question is whether everyone can afford that. Even the Swiss don't have a highs speed rail (only for 200 km/h) since the trains there do not go as fast as possible but as it is needed to fit into the schedule. But, only time will tell if it works, I am glad that some investment is going into the railways. Train line Sombor-Vrbas is planned to be reconstructed, but who knows when.
