This could open up more opportunities for affordable single DD IEMs moving forward. I mean, no doubt within the next few months, many brands will simply copy this technique and release their own versions of it, just like how the planar IEMs suddenly flood the market after 7hz made the timeless. So yeah, looking forward for 20$ IEM with this tech built in.
I mean, 79$ is pretty affordable if you ask me. It isn't complete budget, but I would rather pay a bit more for a good product then settle for fine. This does seem pretty interesting.
I've been into audio for 45 years. We are living in a golden age of sound reproduction because of advances in speakers, headphones and IEMs. Quality and consistency is available now for a fraction of the price of when I was young. Looking forward to checking out these Kiwi Ears.
As an Italian I'm obliged to tell you that singolo is pronounced with the accent on the 'i', so síngolo (you put the accent on the first 'o', so singòlo)
Never imagined I'd go back to this hobby after abandoning it 10 years ago due to the limited options in the mainstream price brackets. It's a breath of fresh air that high fidelity sound can now be had with hardly any money nowadays and new technologies were surfacing. I'm really anxious to try it out. Moreover, the Rickrolling toward the end had me sold on these. 😂
SO many content creators could learn so much from how clear the "don't trust me" message is. Class act crin! super excited about how IEM tech is getting better and better so quickly
Crinacle could create his own IEM company in partnership with a large store such as Linsoul, Hifigo or Shenzhen Audio. It would be an absolute success.
Nice to know resonators becoming more popular, but I have a question: how does this system compare to the one that was already used in the AFUL MagicOne? May you explain that further? Thanks.
A Helmholtz resonator can both attenuate and boost a certain frequency, depending on the situation. It all boils down to how the resonator is designed and used. Here's the breakdown: - 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: When a Helmholtz resonator is designed for a specific frequency, it can resonate with sound waves at that frequency. This resonance amplifies the desired frequency, making it sound louder. This principle is applied in speaker cabinets to enhance bass response. - 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: In a different scenario, a Helmholtz resonator can act as a sound trap. By absorbing sound waves at its resonant frequency, it effectively reduces the intensity of that particular frequency. This is useful in mufflers, where a resonator tuned to engine noise frequencies dampens those sounds. So, the key takeaway is that Helmholtz resonators can function as either a filter that boosts or cuts a specific frequency based on their design and application.
Crinnacle, please contact harmonicdyne and see if you can partner with them to fix their black hole headphones to be better. We need more budget closed back full size headphones that are actually good.
AKG K361, Sony MDR7506/V6, Shure SRH440 OG (the sony and shures both needs replacement pads) are all relatively cheap closed back with decent tunings but yeah a good sub 80 dollar open and closed back option would be nice since all of these are around 100-120 new.
surprised you didn't mention the IE600 when talking about resonator. Auditioned one myself and it's the only IEM I've tried that has such a clean and powerful bass shelf without a single subwoofer and/or DSP
Just ordered, but am I the only one getting the distinct feeling that Crin is just experimenting with many concepts for his next high-end release at Fearless Dawn price levels? Crossover as seen on the Truthear Zeros, this new approach thanks to 3D printing allowing for more complex shells, DSP to even out anything not possible via traditional means (and enable more personal tailoring), etc. If so, could we pretty please get a CIEM option in a CRN collab? Regardless of my CIEM wish, when you combine all that, what do you get and, more importantly, when will I be able to buy it?
I would have loved if you included result from the same IEM but with the tube removed so we can see to some degree the effect it has, with a 3d files it should be easy and I am sure kiwiears did some testing about that Anyway it is nice to see 3dp used for IEM
Ehh, I hoped for these to be a bit cheaper tbh. I'd be happy to get them for ~$65. The treble extension looks somewhat weird & worrisome to me. I basically have no idea how that's going to sound, so... Guess I'll have to wait a year or two for discount or a good used market proposition. Also, WHY THERE'S NO ORANGE COLORED VERSION? >Buy Dusk Well, ok. But when is it (the Dusk 2) coming?
It absolutely does. We all have different ears and having a huge nozzle would mean people like me who normally use small sized tips wouldn't be able to use them because of extreme pain and inner ear bruising.@@muahaha5929
I had no idea that ~1,5 kHz area could be problematic to tune by conventional means. I thought it's just a conventional approach to have it tuned that way.
I thought having multiple drivers was fancier xP What are the advantages of using a single DD? Honest question, as I thought these would at least be under $20
@crin So I'm assuming it's a port that loads the driver around the 200hz mark... reducing the cone displacement..... but unlike a normal bass reflex, where the port's radiation is fed into the listening environment for a net 3db gain..... this port dumps to outside world so 1/2~ rectified radiation is dumped while the cone's output in the listening environment is reduced. Below the 200hz mark the port shorts to outside world entirely, allowing the driver to unload as if in an infinite baffle alignment... increasing its displacement towards the bottom end? Did I do good boss? Xx
what about the fundamentals of vocals if it's a 300hz cut-off that goes below a bit the rest of the mids? could've been the same amount of subbass with less midbass just like the Zero

Is the same for me
The same

The same used differently.

AFUL did a similar thing with the Magic One, just with one BA. Sounds really good...
what they did is the exact opposite: singolo cancels the bass but MagicOne extends it.
its a great achievement nonethless

It looks like he was working on tuning as a collab but not actual engineering.

does this resonator add anything extra in terms of bass texture or its just for tuning purpose
