It's messed yea but realistically if you care about artist and animators the best you can do is support it. It's just capitalism and is really common for artist in general underpaid and undervalued (as most creative careers are) and heavily exploited. So watching this at least gives mappa money to pay their artist some instead of lay offs
Starting to believe that at this point, doing anything remotely productive means being "overworked" for a first worlder who works 6 hours a day, spending 4 of them on a coffee break.
@@protowalker What animators? They all have different roles in production, from minor to major. Gonna be reeeal interesting when Mother's Basement or STEVEM digs into the production backstory of this one. Mappa aside, this is pretty much industry-wide. Sorry I have to say this: Imagine being an overworked animator who just got the script of making this show. Imagine looking at the comments under the trailer. imagine the higher ups making a ton of money with this while absolutely nothing has changed for you. How do the writers sleep at night? The animators must feel so trolled.
writers get the same situation as animators. There is a lot of levels to production and regardless if you do not watch it they run the risk of being laid off because mappa didn't make money on it. It's capitalism
Surprisingly it is believable! anime in Japan relies solely on your personality and skill level. I know 17 year olds already working for Japanese animation studios. It's a real thing! But def not super common.
In Japan how much you get paid is linked to how long you worked there, so job-hopping is discouraged. Japan expect to train every employee when they are new, so it didn't matter that they are straight out of school. Learning on the job is normal there.
Japanese animation production is notoriously bad, especially for overworking entry level, young animators. There's "okay" studios here and there; however, they are few.
I wonder why Japan is so obsessed with genius characters, so much so that it’s become one of their main fantasies? Showing up in many power fantasy anime, the overpowered character that can tackle giant problems with little effort seems to be a very desirable thing to be. I wonder if this has anything to do with how hard their jobs are or how hopeless they feel on a day to day basis. Or if they think the incredibly talented person is the societal ideal and that people should strive to become that. It would explain the strong work ethic in Japan and how much they can sometimes overwork themselves to reach crazy quality.
Especially when their entire society is pressuring people to conform. You can't have a conformist genius. For true groundbreaking genius you have to break the mold of doing things the same way just because that is how it is always done. If only they could stop hammering down the nails sticking up a little.
Maybe just ask a Japanese person THEIR opinion/feelings on the matter? I do not think, though, that Western society doesn’t enjoy a genius. However, it does seem the West lately prefer Idiocracy, Homer Simposon, Kim Kardashian, etc = LOWERING the bar of expectation. Do not forget though, animation is made for kids, for unbridled enthusiasm and idealism. And, of course, we haven’t seen the work in full to obtain the exact lesson that will be conveyed.
@@tablescissors Yeah I could ask a Japanese person, and it would probably be pretty helpful, but my goal was just to think out loud, not get a perfect answer. Also not all animation is made for kids in Japan. If that were the case you could try telling a 9 year old to watch the Beserk OVA. Though when it comes to Japanese storytelling sometimes it can be easy to predict what can happen, especially when there are handfuls of stories in their specific genres starring similar genius characters.
Probably because the cultural expectations of what a super powered or simply advanced human being is different from the west. Here we see much more commonly the fantasies of the super stoic character that is extremely resilient and can survive any situation with pure power of his iron will and determination. Take some ultra popular characters like Batman, John Wick, Wolverine or some classics from the past like Rocky Balboa, Rambo and the 80's era of action movies. I imagine that in Japan they fantasize more about characters that are able to solve problems extremely efficiently and fast in a super powered way
