Vice was never meant to be forever. They wanted to change the game and push alternative creator driven shows. Changed the culture. Crazy boots on the ground reporting. Skateboarding abandoned places. An idea that was birthed, flourished, soared than eventually had to come down. Glad it was here. Cheers
"was never meant forever" may sound pithy but its completely hollow. Vice wanted to tell counterculture, off the beaten path stories not told in the major publications. These realities will always forever, Vice was one to take it somewhat main stream.
@@simonorr594 Wow I had never heard of Actuel, just did a deep dive on Google. It absolutely seems like Vice modeled their magazine off of the 80's incarnation, and the founders probably grew up with it, being from Canada.
From 2010 to 2016, Vice was dope. I commented on one of their Facebook posts, just saying I missed the old days when they were on RUclips, before HBO and their own channel-and they deleted it. They were grinding and hungry back then.
As a Liberian im still trying to get that Vice documentary about my country taken down !!!! It gets me so mad on how the music and his narration made everything seem so tense . I’m a little confused, when he was working for Vice Eddie was calling Shane “Uncle Shane”, running up all kinds of bills on the corporate card, not showing up to places on time and Shane still being a cool boss about it on couple of those episodes. I like Eddie but now he’s making a film about them going bankrupt.
@@kaliduncanel3356right on the money, this comment is! He wants everyone to forget how he whored himself out to uggs. Him agreeing to be their spokesman definitely proves he’s an opportunist
It's shocking with how much authority Eddie speaks with regarding VICE when he had minimal involvement at best and in no shape or form was involved with the executive, creative, or strategic output of the company. He is a total fucking leech.

I mean Vice originated as a magazine based in Montreal. I’m from Toronto, I still have tons of old issues. They had “underground” attention and covered stories basically worldwide while they were still just print. So you’re right, it wasn’t just New York, and that was even before their peak
Once James Murdoch got involved its days were numbered, even if those days were quite some time. The quest for endless growth usually can never really end well, add dark ideology to the mix and well...
Eddie wasn't critical about Vice when he was making money off them, and now he's no longer getting a paycheck from them he's throwing them under the bus.
In the early days of VICE I recall a slideshow where one of the captions was making fun of an Asian guy's eye shape. I wish I had screenshot it because it was well before they were trying to be serious journalism. They also used to have women interview people while in bikinis but MTV did that sexist kind of stuff to ppl like Cyndi Crawford when she interviewed Dennis Rodman (he got a woody during that interview) as well. I wish there was a doc to really express the trajectory of VICE because it was originally meant to be a sexist, racist, Mad Magazine for Yt boys and Yt young men.
This interview feels pretty uncomfortable. The interviewer is somehow asking all the right questions but in the most annoying way possible. They all feel straight from the cue card, and he's delivering them like he's on stage doing spoken word. Eddie kept having to swallow his response for a sec just to let the guy add a completely predictable comment to his question. Definitely makes you appreciate the skill that some podcast host have for letting their guests run with stories
I don’t think we really need a movie to explain why Vice flatlined. The phase go woke go broke was spawned from Vices downfall. Vice started out edgy and had clever shows, and covered news stories that other outlets were not covering. As Shane moved on, Vice went full woke tard. If you go back and watch Eddys old shows, he would use all the woke catch phrases pretty regularly. Now it’s a shell of its former self, if you look in the comment section of a Vice story, people laugh at it and question Vices credibility. I don’t think we need a movie to explain this.
Well, they kinda did “sell”, in a sense...what made them worth billions was Rogers Communications in Canada partnered / bought part of Vice and gave Vice access to “mainstream” channels / avenues / viewers
I remember when McGinnes was cool 😞 what a fall-off especially considering he never even existed in a world where his views were relevant. Like bruh, you're from Ottawa ffs. And VICE was made in Montreal, like those are defo not the places to foment such sentiments.
No that’s not what happened....Rogers (giant phone / tv / media/ holdings company in Canada) invested in and partnered with Vice back in 2014/15, that’s what drove their valuation into the billions.....but then they started going more mainstream & “woke”....Rogers ended up losing tons of money in the long run, there was no one to dump it to at that point
