Suggestion: to choose header, manifold, exhaust sizes and flow there's the 4 way split graph. You can see where the various components reach 100% usage on the rpm range. For economy you should target 90% at max torque.
You can also do that manually when testing engines. I guess the way you described is much easier tho. I believe these graphs and calculations are going to be reworked in next update either way.
