The difference is that, although they make lots of watches annually, the demand for them is fierce and their supply is not enough to keep up with that demand. @@nater1328 Agree. Rolex have a proven track history of building robust and reliable watches. They've survived harsh conditions of every kind, extreme heat to extreme cold. Been taken to the ends of Earth by explorers, scientists, adventurers and athletes. Survived being under seawater for over a year. Used to navigate longitude on a solo circumnavigation sailing expedition. What more do you need that an Omega is going to offer in any more superior form? I wear my Rolex everyday too. I use to wear a Speedy but sold it as it's become too common especially with MoonSwatches appearing on the scene. And I refuse to wear a Seamaster, as I don't want to endorse paying for James Bond marketing bullshit. Give me a Bond Submariner any day or even a Timothy Dalton era 16610 Sub is cooler than any Seamaster.
Bullshit. NASA is a government agency and Rolex is a LUXURY BRAND. The government would not and cannot justify partnering with a luxury brand and spend double or triple what it would spend otherwise. That would be like saying the US military chose Propper over Louis Vuitton to make their uniforms. I highly doubt NASA ever considered Rolex to make anything for them.

people who buy watches as investments are dumb. if you cant stand to lose a few thousand in value on a watch that costs 5-10k, you shouldn't be buying that watch in the first place.
What nonsense. I own both brands. I can tell you now, Omega build quality is no difference to Rolex. Rolex has an allure from a desirability POV, but I don't own Omega because I didn't want to deal with Rolex. I own Omega because I love the watches. Moral of the story is, buy what you love. Will you lose some purchase value on Omega? Yes. Will it hurt you? No. Change your mindset. You didn't need the money in the bank, that's why you swapped it for a watch. You get to own this incredible thing that you love. Should you need to raise some quick cash for whatever reason, you can easily sell it. Just buy what you love to look at, buy what you enjoy wearing. If NASA trust Omega for build quality, so do I
I completely agree. Omega's are in a different league. They are better watches in every measurable way. Rolex might be the better investment but not the better watch.
Better? There's no proof. More innovative and definitely offer more variety. But stop this argument of who's better. Watch collecting use to be an enjoyable hobby. It's turned into a schoolyard of bullies. Reminds me of kids being beat up for wearing the wrong sneakers. Just stop it!!

@@johanvandersandt8904 It's all because of social media that people make assumptions on what they hear rather than what they experience. I can only say collect what you like but don't follow trends & fashions. Follow your own path. Never judge a book by it's cover. I've owned 10 Omegas & 7 Rolexes. The wearing experience was completely different. I liked them both for different reasons and it depends on the model. For example I avoid Daytonas and Moon watches (too common). But I love the Explorer 2 and the vintage Speedmaster Mark 2. Both unloved in their own right but they have a great history behind them; without the media hype. The Mark 2 which was designed to replace the Moon watch but got rejected mostly due to NASA budget costs. The Rolex is more an aspirational purchase and a boy's own adventure story kind of watch if you read about the adventures they've been on. Like the Explorer 2 worn by Erling Kagge who wore it to summit Everest and to both solo expeditions of the North & South poles. And Ed Viesturs who also wore it on a majority of his expeditions to the 14 of the eight thousand meter mountain peaks. Mind you these were the days before GPS or mobile phones. The watch was a tool used to navigate. I own a vintage Explorer 2 from the same period. I also have the same reference Submariner as one that was accidentally lost in the Pacific Ocean by a fisherman, which was recovered more than one year later, still working with barnacles growing on it. Hate Rolex if you must and call them inferior in fit and finish but they will almost last a nuclear bomb. Actually there were two Volcanologists that died whilst researching a live volcano and the only remains of them found was a Datejust one was wearing! Then there's also the sailor, Sir Francis Chichester who solo circumnavigated the clipper route for 9 months in the 1960s with only the aid of a sextant and his Rolex Oyster Perpetual to navigate Longitude using the sun and stars. Does it get more reliable than that? I also hate to say it, but they retain their value. I've traded a lot of Omegas and lost money on all but one of them. Over 10 years that amounts to thousands of dollars. We don't like to talk money in this hobby but when you're spending tens of thousands of dollars, you start re-thinking what you should buy. If you only have one watch then that's fine, but as a collector it adds up. You've got to be naive not to think so.

I don't understand the appeal of Rolex. My grandfather wore Rolex 35 years ago but these days it's become this crass, sketchy brand admired by people who act like Rolex is the only luxury watch.
Client is wrong in the first place buying a watch because of its value retention. You buy a watch you want to wear. Ot doesn't matter if it's omega or rolex
If you are buying for investment, on a watch that loses 3-12 seconds a day, then Rolex. If you are buying for wrist candy that will not break the bank , then Omega is the way to go. Watches are jewelry not time pieces nowadays.
I do understand backing up Rolex because you need to pay your bills. Honestly, the design and build quality aren't that much different from each other.
You don't lose money on a watch if you're never going to sell it. I've got 2 proper vintage watches: my grandfather's RAF issue WW2 Aircrew Omega and a Seamaster from my year of birth (1970) Added to that is a Seamaster I bought myself for my 30th which is very nearly vintage too. I'd never ever sell any of them (and there isn't enough £ in the world to buy my Grandfather's watch off me) so I've neither lost or made anything on any of them. My daily watch is the beautifully understated Explorer (after a very brief and foolish dalliance with a Skydweller) and I'm just about to buy a Grand Seiko from their Heritage range as I fancy something no one will recognise or appreciate unless they're a watch person. If I only bought for profit I'd have never got to enjoy any of them 🤷🏻♂️
And how much does a Porsche or Ferrari or Bentley loose as soon as it’s driven out the showroom. Buy the watch you love. Unless you’re a greedy flipper then you can p*SS off.
These men do not appreciate the beauty of watch making and treat it as a greedy investment. These videos should be a separate category. Why this is in my feed I have no idea.
Charlie, I have to respectively disagree with your opinion. I am talking from experience buying several Omega watches. You are correct that if you buy an Omega from an AD, you may be able to get a 10% discount, but still lose money IF you plan on reselling it in the near future. However, if you shop on the grey market and buy the Omega at a 20%+ discount, then your watch will not lose a great amount of value. Of course if you wear and keep your Omega then it does not matter. Watches are not investments, so if I take the savings from buying an Omega over an equivalent Rolex, I can invest the savings and smile all the way to the bank while WEARING my Omega.
Ah yes absolutely, they are incredible timepieces, if you are going for these it’s definitely best advised to go on the secondary market to save some money. Like you say if it’s to buy, wear and enjoy it doesn’t matter as much in the long run 👌🏻
If you bought a Rolex for more than MSRP you’re a complete fool, unless you’re a gray dealer and take advantage of the fools. Omega from a horological perspective is a better watch. Omegas gorgeous 8900 movement with coaxial escapement and magnetic resistance is far superior to Rolex 3235 movement. Rolex doesn’t even want their movements to bee seen.
Totally agree. The planet ocean is just on another level vs the submariner. I own both and when you wind the Omega is as smooth as butter. By the way, I paid retail for the Rolex.
You know what I agree with him people please keep buying Rolex and making their price go up, it just means I get to buy omega at MSRP or cheaper in the grey market because people are too focused on Rolex to realize omega makes just as good watches. So I get to enjoy the quality of Rolex (or even better at times) at an affordable price and without having to join waitlist or over pay
IMO, neither Rolex nor omega are good for investment currently. If you can buy Rolex from AD then sure that can be an investment piece but if you can't (literally story for 99.99% people), you are paying a premium which you have no guarantee you will get back on resell a few years later.
Spoken like a true dealer. I didn’t buy my Omega Globemaster thinking about resale. I bought it because it’s beautiful, unique and has incredible quality. And I’d still buy an Omega over a Rolex.
Him saying the Rolex has worlds apart better build quality than the Omega seamaster is bollocks 😂 I bought my omega seamaster last year for £3.8k brand new from a grey dealer with 5 years omega warranty. It's now selling for £5.5k brand ne, s I doubt i will make a loss if i was to sel, but i love this watch, so I will never sell it unless Omega releases a better version of the Seamaster.
People need to stop buying watches as investments. I hope you and every one of your clients loses money on their watches. You're damaging the industry for pure greed
I own both. Have never had a problem with either. My omega needed repairs after water damadge. The warranty covered the cost. I like both for different reasons
If you buy a omega to keep it for your self and wear it every day in good condition, second hand is nothing wrong with it. But Rolex is better, get a datejust 41 for listprice. It's worth to wait few monts till one year.
I own x3 Omega watches & couldn’t care less about there current market value as I’m in no way thinking of selling then! I display them proudly in an old dentist glass cabinet & they’ll be passed on when I’m gone. If you buy something you like just wear it & enjoy it..🐬
The thing is… Just like with my Rolex’s my omega watches are intended to be permanent additions to my collection… So the resale doesn’t mean much… I did sell a submariner after only having it for three years… It was in very good condition… Not mint, but close… are the best offer I could find still had me losing 3400 bucks off the retail price that I paid of $10,400… so not exactly value retention as far as I’m concerned
Ah thats a shame you took such a big hit, long term they should hold their value really well. But yes can't go wrong with Omega either as additions to your collection 👌
If you’re buying a watch to wear every day and keep it for a long time I suggest you buy the omega. After 30’years when the watch is inherited, most people don’t like Vintage. The wearer has probably enjoyed his Omega and has saved half the money and had a better experience purchasing his watch
I own both Rolex and Omega watches, among other brands, not lookin to sell any of them because I actually love wearing them, that’s why I bought them in the first place.
There is no shortage. It’s who you know. The grey market is made up of super clones, ADs that sell to their preferred friends who them kick them back $$. Bruce Wayne, 3 weeks out. Any gmt for the matter is 3 weeks to 3 months out depending on AD. They sell to you at their discretion. They want you to suck them off first. Buy omega
Unsubscribed because of this BS post trying to bring Omega down in a clear attempt to upsell Rolex. Definitely not a watch collector, just a watch dealer trying to earn his keep (nothing wrong with that, but don't lie about build quality).
Omega collectors are normally smart buyers, buying used, grey market (when the price is right), neon vintage and vintage. I don’t see to many guys buying an Omega at retail to sell it to a dealer for 1/3 the retail price. Watch guys buying retail Omegas have no plans on selling. But he is the honest watch dealer……
The problem is that normal folks cannot actually buy Rolex watches new from the store. They simply are not available. Omega watches are actually available now in the store. Imagine that!
i prefer omega overall. more modern innovation and yes better prices. sure they depreciate in value most of the time, but thats fine, thats how i was able to buy mine. i dont care about its market value, only the value i give it.
I really appreciate this channel. There is always a lot of useful insight into the watch world, but I have both Rolex and Omega in my collection. I love that both brands exist. I think they both bring their own unique qualities to the table, but it is a hard sell to convince me that Rolex has a stronger build quality than Omega. It is true that Rolex will hold its value and is a much better investment, but I collect watches for the love of them. It has never been transactional for me. Each of my time pieces tells a story and represents a significant moment in my life. I buy them to enjoy them and one day pass down to my kids. It’s never been about turning a profit.
I’ve been collecting watches for almost 40 years and the current insanity of used Rolex or Gray Market Rolex selling for double and triple the MSRP is unsustainable. Watches were never meant to be “investments”(unless sentimental or family heirlooms) and might appreciate over a generation but not the way they are being traded now, like a stock option or a derivative. It’s a shame that a group of people driven by money have been able to manipulate the market and drive the narrative because people are missing out on the beauty and fun of horology. To sum it up, you should buy what you like and not be worried about making a buck.
It is not comparable to Rolex of course, but a lot Omega actually keep or even inscrease their value. And you can actually wear the thing without risking your arm
Rolex also is for enthusiasts. There are some issues with Rolex though: 1. there are too many fakes out there, even great quality fakes 2. the risk of being robbed - even wearing a fake one - is way too high 3. many nouveaux riches buy it because they don't know any better.
The build quality and design are two different levels? yeah - watch "experts" frequently say Omega's is better. It's the value proposition that people like. Rolex hold their value and no-one seems to be able to explain why.
Rolex: Investment, Fashion and Exclusivity. Omega: Watch Lovers(Enthusiast), Serious Collector and Success. -That's my conclusion correct me if i'm wrong.
I own both brands mentioned in this video and others. Buy watches you will enjoy wearing and NEVER as an investment. People are guessing at which watches will appreciate or even hold value over time, and there are far too many asset classes that are safer to put your money into as growth vehicles. Wear what speaks to you, ignore hype, and respect that everyone has different tastes. I’ll also say the Rolex retail experience since about 2019 is an absolute disaster for customers. Years upon years of waitlists for watches, and being forced into buying watches you don’t want with ADs for possible access to the watch you do want at retail prices has really soured me. Omega’s Speedmaster, the Seamaster, and even the new black lacquer dial Aqua Terra are all awesome watches too.
“The build quality and design are two different levels” that’s objectively false. Omega and Rolex operate on almost the EXACT same quality level. It’s brand recognition and value retention where Rolex is a cut above.
1. Never buy a watch as an investment. Even Rolex. 2. If you’re an end consumer and buying a watch from a gray market dealer specifically Rolex that you’ve probably paid over retail, you’re almost 9 times out of 10 gonna loose money. 3. Ok, so if Omega looses value then buy preowned and save yourself the 30-40% discount. End of the day buy what you like. Watches are made to be enjoyed and passed down. Not an investment.
I own two Omega Seamasters. I bought them because I love them(especially the coaxial escapement). One day I'll pass them on to other people as heirlooms. I really don't intend them to ever be sold. The residual value is irrelevant for me.
FACTS: 1. Omega has a superior movement. 2. Omega has more heritage 3. Rolex retains value, based on perception 4. Quality between the two brands is negligible. 5. Only stainless Rolexes show long-term investment potential. Gold models depreciate like a mattress.
Two different build qualities” is not true. Rolex and Omega often get mentioned together because they’re so similar. Rolex has a superior reputation right now, but it hasn’t always been that way. And for a long time, Omega was actually the top dog. I’d argue Omega uses superior movements and are often built “tougher” while Rolex movements are still amazing but the watches themselves are built more so with elegance in mind.
If you buy a watch for an investment, I understand his point completely. However, not everyone buys a watch for an investment, they buy it because it's something they can bring into their life and make apart of them. Omega produce gorgeous watches and I'm sure many would rather certain omegas over certain rolex watches. I would own a Rolex, they are gorgeous, but suffice it to say, my vintage Omega ticks all the boxes.
If I loved watches, I'd definitely buy a Rolex. As I only like watches, I won't ever go over the €5,000 limit per timepiece, therefore I'll never own a Rolex. But I do enjoy my 2017 SMPc and Carrera Heuer 01. Excellent watches and no loss on them either.
This is actually very correct. I learned my lesson with Tudor watches and the same issue! If you are buying anything other than a Rolex make sure that you get a big discount off retail or just buy it second hand! I lost 30 percent when I traded my Tudors for a Rolex DJ41
People who want a quality watch for an excellent price that want to wear it every day by omega. That’s me. People who want to look rich and be nagged by people asking if it’s real buy a Rolex.
I have three current gen Rolex sports model and three current reference Omega sports models as well. Stylistically they are different, however, I don’t see any massive differences in build quality.
I love Rolex and have own two. At the same time gone over some omegas. I hate to say this omega is in general better. You get a better experience overall. Rolex för me is a status thing now. But omega really itches my back when it comes to horology...
I’ve had my omega for years and it works perfectly. Omega is the exact opposite of what this guy is saying. Talking about losing money buy a 7k used Rolex for 15k from this guy lol
No watch should be purchased as an investment . They are made to be worn and they will lose Money . These grey Market watch dealers have safe’s full of Rolex watches . They will soon be flooding the Market with these watches . Invest in Gold not a Gold watch
Outside of a short list of brands (of which neither Rolex nor Omega belong) watches should never be purchased based on holding value. Buy what you want to wear and wear it. The whole subculture of watches as currency is what has damaged the market so badly
Sure, you do make a good point… For some people. I personaly don’t care about the price diffrence between omega and rolex, i think omega make great and unique watches, while rolex stays classy and ”simple”. I would not have a problem to pay more money for a omega than a rolex. I perfer omega over rolex because i just love the designs alot more. They have got the world record furthest dive watch. Nasa certified. James bond collab, etc. And also, i do agree that omega has become a bad investment in todays market. But when i bought my first omega a few years back i bought it brand new for 2500€ and now i could sell it for 5500€ used.

Uh no. NASA was looking for watches can handle the rigorous conditions un space. Most of us are not taking our watches to space.

No one needs to justify Rolex being better
Rolex lives rent-free inbetter Omega owners' heads. Omega owners constantly crow how Omega is better than the Crown.
The truth is Omega will always live in Rolexes shadow. Omega just is not in the same class as Rolex in value retention, iconic design, staus and brand recognition.
If your taste is to wear Omega vs Rolex that's fine, but don't kid yourself thinking it's superior to the crown.
people who buy watches as investments are dumb. if you cant stand to lose a few thousand in value on a watch that costs 5-10k, you shouldn't be buying that watch in the first place.
Couldn't agree more
These are the kind of people who buy designer clothes just to return it after wearing it once to show off. Pathetic.
Couldn’t agree less
If NASA trust Omega for build quality, so do I
Same here. Only watch dealers are saying this crap. Every watch MAKER!! Will tell you a different story
Rolex build quality isn't on a different level. They are equal. Rolex just sells for more because of marketing.
@@terryl7749 How about fit and finish? How about material used. Under macro's they are just (generally) done to a higher standard. That being said I know what you mean.

Yes because buying a watch is mainly about how much you can then sell it for.
I do understand backing up Rolex because you need to pay your bills. Honestly, the design and build quality aren't that much different from each other.
I sold my Rolex lost 40% and bought a Omega. Imo it feel way better overall. Aint no way Omega has worse quality

I have no loyalty to any watch brand and can respect all brands. But the omega speedmaster is a very special watch in my eyes.
Everything he said in this vid is wrong. Buy a watch to wear it, not as investment. That Rolex-bubble will blow up sooner or later.
That is why never never never listen to watch dealers. Buy a watch you want to wear not as an investment
I buy watches to wear and enjoy not make money on them
You don't lose money on a watch if you're never going to sell it.
If u want a watch buy omega.. if u want a brand buy rolex, but investment.. buy stocks instead..
These men do not appreciate the beauty of watch making and treat it as a greedy investment. These videos should be a separate category. Why this is in my feed I have no idea.
Wny would u buy watch as a investment? I buy omega cause i like them.
Had me until you said Rolex had superior build quality.
The mindset of this dude is just bananas
What happened to just, JUST buying a watch because you LIKE the way it looks on your wrist? Sheesh - buy for enjoyment.
Him saying the Rolex has worlds apart better build quality than the Omega seamaster is bollocks 😂
I bought my omega seamaster last year for £3.8k brand new from a grey dealer with 5 years omega warranty. It's now selling for £5.5k brand ne, s I doubt i will make a loss if i was to sel, but i love this watch, so I will never sell it unless Omega releases a better version of the Seamaster.
The key is - never buy a watch based on speculative value. Buy it because you want to wear it, love how it looks, enjoy its quirks, etc.
I brought my 2008 007 seamaster for 1.9k & now its up retail at around 5-5.5k.
Not a bad deal. Even though i will never sell it. I love it.
Excellent price you bought it in at! 👌🏻 Stunning watch, glad to hear you are going to keep it 🙌
Since when is there an honest salesman, he is going to point you in the direction that makes him the most profit or commission.
He’s right about the quality being another level, Omega is the winner.

Rolex shortage got me into Grand Seiko, and IWC.
There is no point in debating on who makes the better watch. Omega does a great watch too, but the market has spoken. It is what it is.
They are a great brand if you plan on wearing and enjoying them 👌🏻
Take for watching!
Agreed with video until it’s mentioned Rolex build
Quality is far superior….
Rolex is for someone who is a look at me type person or a reseller. Omega is for true enthusiasts
Rolex also is for enthusiasts. There are some issues with Rolex though:
1. there are too many fakes out there, even great quality fakes
2. the risk of being robbed - even wearing a fake one - is way too high
3. many nouveaux riches buy it because they don't know any better.
Not a bad take, both can cross over to the other brand too! 👌
Watches aren’t just about value retention, if you think they are then you’re not a watch enthusiast👍
Watches are not an investment, they’re an expense , the problem with omega is the price but there’s no problem with Rolex asking form more ?
You buy Omega because you appreciate and like Omega. Not because you think it’ll be a good investment long term.
That’s definitely the best way to go about it! Stunning models mate, enjoy them 🙌
FACTS: 1. Omega has a superior movement. 2. Omega has more heritage 3. Rolex retains value, based on perception 4. Quality between the two brands is negligible. 5. Only stainless Rolexes show long-term investment potential. Gold models depreciate like a mattress.
If your buying Omega stick to the Seamaster 300 Professional or the Hesalite Speedmaster and you want around 20% if you can.
LOL, you buy the watch because you want it not for resell.
What he is saying is 100% correct. Don’t blame him. Some just don’t like to hear it.

They have got the world record furthest dive watch. the problem with your logic is that your assuming the Omega wasn't their first choice. Or they don't want to play the AD games or grey market prices.
