Ami, I barely make any of your recipes and I say that to tell you, I JUST LOVE WATCHING YOU, and your real, relatable life. If you want to talk more about where you are at, DO IT! Ever since you started lifting weights, you seemed to find lots of joy in it and how it made you feel, and I love it. I wish I felt that way about lifting weights. Your journey and honesty helps me a lot, so keep it coming!

Simple Quinoa Wraps: 1/2 cup whole quinoa soaked overnight or in boiling water (drain) then place in a blender with 1/2 cup water, 2 garlic cloves, pinch of salt (optional - you can add spinach (or other greens), beet powder, or nutritional yeast, etc. if you don't want them plain). In a non-stick skillet pour 1/4 cup per flatbread/tortilla wrap (spread them thin) cook flip cook. She yielded 3 wraps. After they are cooked place them in the oven to crisp for ~ 10-15 minutes (I'm assuming her usual 180C/350F). When crisp remove from oven (this will be the pizza base) & place the Caesar salad on top.
Caesar salad: cherry tomatoes, cucumber, sweet gems (baby romaine lettuce greens). Pour the dressing on the salad & mix.
Dressing: Vegan Greek-style yogurt, lemon juice, onion & garlic powder, whole grain mustard, nutritional yeast & salt. Place the salad on the "crispy tortilla wraps" also known as tostadas. BTW she had grapes on the side & her favorite wraps are quinoa, red lentil or moong dal.

Have been eating WFPB for 14 years but I always seem to get a bit "fluffy" feeling after the winter months. Ami, I stumbled on your channel a couple of months ago, and have been binge watching it ever since . I have been whole food plant-based for years now and I’m actually a public educator as well teaching nutrition, and cooking classes in my community. I also have recently gained some weight back, and I understand the struggle even standing in front of classes. I feel a little, not authentic in myself because I’ve gotten a little less lean then I would like to be and I know part of it is because I do so much recipe development and testing and I eat too much of that food when I’m doing it.
I have been watching your videos just because I truly enjoy them. You are very entertaining, very authentic. I love how you bring your family into it. You are a beautiful individual and an exceptionally loving parent from what I can see. I love how you interact with your children and your family. Your energy and creativity is contagious. Keep being your authentic self. The transparency is so refreshing. I wish I could give you a hug through that screen. I’m glad you’re sharing this part of your journey with us and hopefully I won’t lose the weight along with you. let’s go sister😅 by the way, I love rebounding too, walking through the forest and foraging whatever is along the way 🥦🥦🥦

Gosh I had to read your comment twice as I thought I had written it! Your life sounds so much like mine. It’s so hard to deliver plant based workshops and be ok with your size. Still reducing but still delivering workshops . I was like not ready I will wait until I’m lighter but the truth is we are all on a journey and plant based bodies come in all ages , shapes and sizes. 💚

Ami, you are doing great! Back in December I did a pivot on my usual WFPB routine. I started adding more protein and started lifting heavier weights because I need to build muscle. I am 67 post menopausal and I needed to switch it up. I feel so much better. I have gained muscle and have changed my body composition. I no longer care about being thin or small I want to be strong and healthy. You have to do what works for you. Not everyone will agree but that is their problem not yours. You only have one body in this lifetime so do what is best for you and you never have to apologize for that. Keep up all your great work.

Being WFP compliant is not a free pass to maintaining our weight. I learnt that . Lost 70 pounds and then began to pile some on over a year (about a stone). It remains calories in calories out. The benefit of WFPB is that we are not addicted to rich ultra processed junk and can control our hunger with high volume and low density foods. We dont have to starve to lose fat ❤

    • @pussiboos21t
      @pussiboos21t 3 месяца назад

It's not just calories in and calories out. Less calories can often mean your metabolism slows. This is proven science. Your body is trying to stop you starving. That has been the human condition and our evolution until the last few years. Now we have abundance and highly processed foods, we're not evolved to cope with that.

I hear you about being aware of calories when we want to tweak things. I've just started to count them so that i can gain a new awareness of just what I'm eating. By doing this I realise that I've been eating double the calories I 'should' be because I'm 5' tall, 63 years old with fibromyalgia (24/7/365 pain) so unable to go for it with exercise that will burn calories. I've become a telly tubby over the winter so i want so much to pull back with all the eating and drop a few pounds. i can't do it without calorie awareness.

I’m a WFPB vegan, have been for 6 years. Plateaued bad. I added a little fat to my meals and, not much! But that seemed to help. I started losing weight, didn’t feel like I had to eat massive meals all of the time, which started to wear me out. But things like nuts to my oatmeal, etc. also, letting go of perfection seemed to give me gains and the freedom from constantly thinking about it. You look fantastic!

Hi Ami! I recently used the recipe you use for millet buns, and turned that into a pizza crust. It was fantastic! I just rolled the "dough" out into a pizza crust shape instead of forming it into buns. I baked it in the oven for a while, then put my toppings on, and put it back in the oven at a higher heat to cook the top. Also, if you are still on a quinoa kick, I would highly recommend Minimalist Baker's recipe for quinoa taco meat. It's so good, and I think you would really enjoy it. It does call for a tablespoon of oil, but I just leave that out.

Thank you for being authentically vulnerable with us…. You’re right, lots of vegans do get more flabby sometimes around the mid section especially for women who are past age 30. Absolutely love your videos! I don't know if anyone mentioned the tip for keeping the waffle maker from sticking is to leave whatever you are cooking in for longer. Some people say to wait until it stops steaming. Once it starts to get crispy it shouldn't stick. I think maybe you aren't letting it cook long enough for it not to stick. The same thing was happening to me until I started leaving it in longer. I hope you try this and it work for you.

I'm a long term vegan too, I found it impossible to gain muscle on a completely wholefoods plant placed diet. I have done power lifting and now Crossfit. I have 3 monthly Inbody scans included in my membership. I can accurately see how much body fat and muscle I have. When I am wholefoods my body weight drops, but so does my muscle. Even with lots of tofu, beans and tempeh in my diet. Since I have included protein powder I can see how it helps muscle growth, which makes all the difference. I feel leaner, and recover faster from intense workouts. The scales only show half the story, protein really does matter
I really love your recipes, you have inspired me with so much, I just include some protein powder to my baked chickpea oats ect. Keep up the amazing work you do, you are so inspirational xxxx

Ami, for the first time since I went WFPB No oil I’ve gained a few pounds, I’ve increased my protein because I’ve been working out and strength training due to an osteoporosis diagnosis, I got a Ninja Creami, and I’ve been eating a little bit more fat than my diabetes can handle. I’m not sure which one is the weight gain culprit, but I want to get a handle on it before it gets out of hand.

So Ami after only watching your intro I just want to say that here in California when the weather is warm and we start wearing shorts and bathing suits we often start trying to get lean before heading into those clothes. So I’m in with getting a bit more lean even though like you I feel healthy and happy with myself. I’m not going to do anything extreme just lose some of my extra body fat which shows up as a muffin top in my shorts.

Hey, Ami! This is so funny: I'm exactly where you are now! I lost 60lbs with whole food plant based, then got an obsession with the gym and for the last year or so I switched my focus to muscle gain (more protein) which obviously lead to fat gain too. I am now sick with the protein hype and I don't feel like my body is running as smoothly. So I'm now going to eat lots more fruits and continue going to the gym without worrying about protein. I'm a bit scared that the gym police is gonna be after me tho.

I'm similar, it's fine to want to be strong and lean. It's tricky, making sure you have enough high protein food for building the muscles, within keeping the calorie density low, so it's often easier to cycle cutting and bulking like bodybuilders do. so some time getting lean, then when the fat is gone, focusing on building muscle. It's fine. Looking forward to the recipes you come up with - I also follow Plant Based Dads and Joey has been working on a similar thing. Good luck :D

I am in the same boat, building muscle but also lose fat. It is not easy! I find it hard to eat all the health and protein requirements and keep the calories low enough. My steps go up with the weather!
