Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction! Next up is Hook and How To Train Your Dragon 2!
There are also the series that serves as a bridge between the first film and the second. Dragons: Riders of Berk (season 1) Dragons: Defenders of Berk (season 2) Dragons: Race to the Edge (seasons 3-8)
I'd love to see your reaction on them too
Me too! The episodes fill in everything and really express the development of the characters in between the 1st and 2nd movies. Funny enough, the episodes actually include real characters from the book series
I love this series! When you finish with this series, try Dragonheart. You may need tissues in the end!
I knew you would love it 💓
You should definitely watch the two shows that take place between the first and second movies. There's so much story that happens and so much character development, especially for Hiccup since they show his growth from awkward teen to mature leader. They also show the family dynamic between all the other riders really well too.
Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk are the same show, but they changed the name halfway through for some reason. And then there's Race to the Edge which is my personal favorite. They introduce a lot of fun characters and do a lot for the overall story with a lot of clever foreshadowing thrown in. I highly recommend them and to be honest, the story told in the movies just doesn't feel complete without them.
*Me, during the entirety of this video, hearing Nick's continuous theories about how the movie's plot was going to unfold:* well yes, but actually no
🤣🤣🤣

"He is probably the villain but he is kinda cute." Got the point 😂
Toothless was based a lot on cat behaviors and I think this comment can apply to cats too X)
@@zilliam120 and considering black cats have been seen as bad luck it does fit. Though having two black cats the only time they are bad luck is at night, stretched out on the stairs, and stepping on them because I didn’t want to turn on the lights.
hehe I love the 2nd movie where you just see dragons always in the background acting like cats :>
@@zilliam120 not just cats tho , he has alota animal traits such as sleeping like a bat
@@zilliam120 I think its actually dog because in the third movie we have toothless as the dog and the Starlight as a cat.
The thing I love about Hiccup's character is that he is like the ultimate misfit. He's a runt, he's left-handed, he has green eyes, and his birthday is February 29th. He has every kind of rare characteristic that you could have and it's especially hard for him because back in this time period, people like him were looked down on and not treated very well, and that's definitely the case in this first movie. Yet despite all that, he manages to become this great hero.
do green eyes mean something in the viking context specifically?
@@PYC334 no, it's just really rare to have green eyes. I think it's only like 2% of people have green eyes. I know in the books, Hiccup was a redhead and apparently that's the rarest hair/eyes color combination with something 0.04% of the population having it.
@@jneumy566 actually blue eyes are the rarest and red hair and blue eyes are the rarest combo, I know cause I have red hair and green eyes and I have always wanted blue eyes cause I wanted to be rarer 😅
@@melissafuerst6051 green *still* is pretty rare. Specially since both red hair and green eyes are recessive traits. If blue is a recessive trait then green is the bottom line of the recessive colors. Meanwhile black and every dark color are the dominants.
Edit: I searched it up and green is the top result of the rarest eye color, so congratulations! You actually have the rarest colors! No need to aim for blue 😊
@@melissafuerst6051 Blue eyes aren't that rare in the north. I live in Norway and almost everyone I know has either grey or blue eyes. So having green eyes is rarer than blue.
But I'm not sure if its more rare than red hair and the blue eyes combo tho.
In the end with Hiccup and Toothless having their injuries on the same side makes me tear up every time
HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE BOTH HAVE INJURIES ON THE SAME SIDE???

Good point! Translates so much to todays society.
Sums up the domestication of animals. Once we saw their potential beyond threats or pests, we learned how to make them companions and help improve society.
literally CHILLS
When watching this in the theater in 2010, my first thought when it got to that first flight scene was "this song is the musical equivalent of absolute freedom"
I thought the exact same thing. I can just put the score on, close my eyes, and i'm there in the air flying. It's THAT good.
@@GreyCookieWeirdo all these years later, I cannot help but smile and giggle like a kid whenever I hear it because it makes me feel weightless and joyful (like I'm flying). However, the emotional response I had that first time is forever special to me because it was the first time a movie's score made me - a neurodivergent 15 y/o who had trouble processing and expressing emotions - feel such specific emotions so strongly.
honestly, the score couldn't represent the movie better, everything is so harmonious and beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes, plus the amazing characters and the meaning and emotions that it conveys...it just carries you into another world.
I am so fucking proud of my brother because he can play that on the piano 🤩
YAS! Is simply epic and beautifull at the same time
Best animated trilogy for me, can't express how many times I've watched the first one compared to the remaining two. Honestly best part of my childhood.
the serie complet the trilogie film
me and my siblings once watched the first one everyday for six days because our parents were gone XD
The tv show is also really great and the Christmas movie just made me want a Night Fury even more
Literally the only trilogy that can rival this one is the Kung fu panda trilogy.
I was 25 when I first watched this movie 10 years ago, and it's the best part of my life. It really transcends demographics. It's that damn good.
“I’m probably saying AW a lot” Bruh, it’s Toothless, we all said AW a million times 😅
Yap
So true. 😂😍💚
Toothless' movements and design is based on one of the artist's cat which is why he's extra cute :D
Aww that's cute!!!
I love that. I remember when I saw it in theatres, first thing I said was that his movements reminded me of a cat. Especially the shoulder shimmy
When you want cute, cat is usually the inspiration 😏
I thought he was very cat like. Adorable
Movements of a cat with the personality of a dog.
I love how Toothless's pupils get wider the more he trusts someone and skinnier when he doesnt
That’s exactly what my cat does
He's a cat lol
Aka dialating pupils. I may have spelled that wrong
@@inkeriananas only characteristics and looks, but yes he is a giant winged kitty
Oh, I never noticed that before. 😱
The true brilliance of the opening score is John Powell's ability to introduce each signature theme (there's a unique theme for the town itself, the townspeople, the chief, the dragon horde, Astrid, Roughnut & Toughnut, and of course Hiccup and Toothless). Absolutely stunning score throughout, but that first piece is on a whole other level.
And then Dragon Racing, the opening film of the second movie, replays all the signature themes from the first movie before the new themes of the second film take flight. Simply brilliant!

Seeing you in awe of this masterpiece is giving me so much joy. This series is incredible. Fan tip, watch "Gift of the Night Fury" before the sequels. It ties into the trilogy! Welcome aboard, dragon rider!
Yes, I absolutely agree with this recommendation. Gift of the Night Fury is a masterpiece and a movie that I love re watching at Christmas .
Hiccup's deadpan sarcastic "Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile" makes me die laughing every single time. Honestly I think Hiccup's comedy is overlooked, like he's hilarious.
Fun fact about the movie! The scene there Hiccup touches Toothless for the first time you can see Toothless kinda stuttering? It was actually not on purpose but they decided it looked cool and left it in! lmao
Same thing with the scene where Hiccup meets Toothless for the first time and is assessing whether he can/will kill him. Toothless was meant to have his eyes open the whole time but when the director or whoever (I can’t remember but am assuming the director) saw that scene with Toothless opening his eye (the way we see in the film now) he said to keep that in as the final version. Best decision in my opinion
Both of these facts are so cool! 😍😍😍
The flight test scene is so good
I heard that the animation team got a basic aerodynamics course in order to accurately depict how changes to the tailfin would affect Toothless' flight

Just get a cat.
Toothless is literally a flying, fire breathing, reptilian cat, with a little of dog thrown into the mix.
I actually have a top 5 list of dragons I would like if they were real. Since Toothless is the only of his kind, I couldn’t put him on the list.
I get teary eyes throughout the whole duration of the 3 movies, just because of how much of a masterpiece this trilogy is.
The score is what always gets me connected with the visuals, the score just conveys the emotion of a scene so perfectly for me. I can only listen to the music of these movies and get teary eyes.
No other movie, other than The Lion King, has ever done this for me.
same, no matter how many times I watch these movies they just make me teary eyed simply because they are just so good, the writing is so good, the music is so good, the -- I could keep going on. A masterpiece.
Exactly....also the scores from HTTYD and Kung Fu Panda reigns as the top most emotional ones for me
They're not necessarily taming them, they're letting them know they won't hurt them and to trust them.
Isn't that what taming is, tho? Doesn't have to be actual training, you're just showing them that they can be relaxed and comfortable around you.
The part where he loses the instructions and has to just trust himself and Toothless gives me goosebumps every time. I took my nephew to see this in theaters when it first came out, and I left legitimately sad that I would never get to ride a dragon, lol.
This movie moved me so much because Hiccup's relationship with his father has a lot of similarities to a relationship between a gay son and his dad (the dad wanting him to be tough and less sensitive, trying to teach him how to be like the other men, having difficulties in understanding why he's like that and then the son making something beautiful and new out of his uniqueness) and this was something I struggled a lot with when I was little.
I'm 22 now, I watched this movie when I was 21 and it became one of my favorite animated movies of all times ❤️
The score for this movie, is my absolute favorite! The flight scene is amazing with the score and the key change and just ughhhhhh
Never apologize for saying awe to Toothless, he’s too cute not to awe at. Him and Stitch are the perfect combo of sassy and sweet. And have the same creator which makes me wonder if Chris Sanders has a pet like Stitch or Toothless.
They really did a great job with this one. That score in particular really hits.

Toothless is so iconic. He's so goofy but a fearless ferocious beast at the same time. He's one powerful dragon.
Be sure to watch the series in between the first and second movie to get a better understanding of the story in the order of Gift of the Night Fury, Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and all six seasons of Race to the Edge after Race to the Edge then watch the second movie it will definitely help you feel more connected after the second movie then you can watch the third movie since there's no in between series for right now. This way you can get the best experience out of the whole franchise.
"This is gonna be his journey: eventually he's gonna work up to killing a night fury my the end of the third movie."
Aww, it's so adorable when reactors have no idea what they're in for.
I love how the opening scene's score includes all the music you will hear throughout the entire movie. I didn't even notice it until I saw another video talking about how the movie's opening scene is a masterpiece for the music.
Oh good lord, that prediction at the start of this movie. That might genuinely win the award for most catastrophically incorrect prediction of the plot of a movie/series I've ever heard. I needed to pause it to give myself time to stop laughing.
Keep up the good work. Love your stuff
The scene were they're preparing to go to the nest, when stoic stutter steps after arguing with hiccup, it showed that he instantly regretted his harsh words towards hiccup
Such amazing subtlety in the animation. Ahhhh I love these movies!
True, but I hate how people say it was uncalled for; I guess people really don't understand what it means to be betrayed like Stoick was.
Hiccup is lucky that Stoick didn't just kill him right then and there.
It would've been more realistic, but of course.

14:19 Oh boy, you should definitely watch the TV series as well. They introduce a lot of new and unique dragons and also expand on the dragons introduced in this film
I'm trying so hard not to explode. I love this movie so much! Just the beautiful animation, the score, the details and mannerisms put into all the dragons, the sound design, the world building, and a perfect story. Seriously, how could anyone not want a dragon of their own after this?
There are some short films of this "Legend of the BoneKnapper" and "Gift of the Night Fury" that are just a few minutes each. If you're reacting to the whole trilogy, make sure you don't miss out those little films. They happen between the 1st and 2nd movie.
They're okay, but I don't think they're as epic and emotional as the trilogy itself, so it doesn't make much difference
I like that the third movie references gift of a night fury as well.
The soundtrack for this movie was the *first CD I ever bought,* and I can still hum every melody and every theme flawlessly. This movie came out when I was 11, just about Hiccup's age, and it was my favorite movie for many, many years. I related *so much* to being the awkward, quiet outcast, afraid of disappointing my parents. These movies are second only to The Prince of Egypt in my opinion, as far as Dreamworks' best films.
10:37 I think he was more "accepting death" than "pretending to be nice" earlier LOL
The movie, the plot, characters, soundtrack, everything is perfect. I thank Jonsi for Sticks and Stones, it's what led me to the movie and I don't regret it one bit.

I went to this in theaters not knowing how I would feel about it, ending up loving it. Love Toothless and Hiccup's friendship in this movie so much.
I really like that you bring up Hiccup and Toothless feeling like brothers in your end discussion. For the release of the second movie, Dreamworks had these pages up on their official website about the characters (humans and dragons alike) from the second movie to promote it and Toothless' page confirmed him and Hiccup as *canon soulmates.* Sadly, those pages have been taken down around the release of the third movie.
I've been so excited for this reaction ever since you said you were going to react to this move as well and I loved re-experiencing it through your eyes.
That flying scene where they detach is the single greatest scene when watched in 3D. You feel like you're flying with them

This trilogy marked the beginning of the end of my childhood. I love this series so much.
25:54 toothless saw this as Astrid attacking hiccup and was trying to protect hiccup from her.
My rescue cat acts like Toothless, and I had a devil of a time getting him to trust me too. Well worth the effort though. Now I have a Light Fury to work on. White cat, with one green eye and one blue eye. Hoping that this works out a second time. 🙏
I went to bed watching this movie every night as a kid/teen, it was the only thing that could get me to calm down enough to sleep and it forever remains one of my favorite animated films. I'm excited to ride along for the next movies too
I would highly recommend watching the animated tv series that they had. They delve a bit more into the lore and have some more types of dragons and character development that, whilst not necessary, helps with the world building I think. The Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk series were released before the second movie which I watched before seeing it and I think it really helped me feel even more invested in the story/characters etc. There are a lot of episodes so absolutely feel free to just watch them on your own and not do reactions to them lol
I'm so glad you loved this movie! (Not that that was shocking because it's such a beautiful movie in so many aspects) I remember seeing this in the theatre and being blown away by the flying moments, truly unforgettable.

I honestly adore this movie, and seeing your reaction to it was amazing!
My favorite scene is right after Stoic basically disowns Hiccup, and it's not a very long scene, but when it goes to Stoic right after he slammed the door and he steps back with that expression... it shows that what he just did isn't lost on him, it still had an impact on him just as much as it did Hiccup because Stoic does care about Hiccup but he just acted on his anger and just.... yeah- I'm rambling now 😅
Anyways!
If/when you do watch the second movie, I recommend maybe having some tissues nearby ^^
The 2nd is arguably just as good if not better! It's my personal favorite of the 3.

One of my absolute favorite parts about this movie is that David Tennant is in it. If you don't know, he's the black-haired Viking who's usually on Stoick's left side, and he only has a few lines in the actual movie, but he's a delight regardless!
He’s Spitelout! Snotlout’s dad
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110 yeah, I knew that. I watched the shows, and he's one of my favorite characters.
@@davido.1233 Ohhhhhhhh ok
10:08 I swear when Hiccup said, "I'm a viking!" It sounded like Toothless said, "I know."
I highly recommended the Kung Fu Panda series and Megamind. Both films are from DreamWorks and they're great!
How to train your dragon franchise is my favorite, I can never get enough of it or get sick of it.
I love it, especially the first one.
thank you for this reaction ✨
I love this movie so much!
And I'd like to suggest some old movies:
tarzan 1999
bug's life
the emperor's new groove
dinosaur 2000
101 dalmatians
These were my childhood!
And they're really good!! I hope you get a chance to watch them.
All of those yes, except dinosaurs... I dont like that movie. Its super boring
yesss. disney dinosaur!! still my favorite movie haha
Dinosaur! I watched it with my class for grade school science class. Good times. 😊
So glad you're feeling better loved your reaction to the first movie you definitely do it justice can't wait for the second one. And just finished up your season 1 and season 2 of The last Airbender can't wait until you have time to do the third one. It means a lot to have someone enjoy it so much my aunt's and I for half of my child hood this is what we basically grow up on I'm so glad you're part of the many people that love this. Blessings to you love you channel.
Can I just say Nick: I love how little you seem to care that your face is sooo expressive. Believe it or not, there are good reactors and bad reactors out there. I watched one guy sit with mirrored aviator glasses on in front of his camera and the guy might have actually nodded off, he was that motionless and wordless.
You are a Great Reactor, Nick.
This is the second video I’ve seen from your channel and it’s on my favorite movies of all time! I love the dragons so much, and I can tell that you love them too. What I wouldn’t give for a Toothless....
Me: *sees the thumbnail and the first word of the title*
Also me: Say no more.
One of the best soundtracks ever, so beautiful.
The perks of being a wallflower is an amazing movie!
I just love how clear you can see how your heart is breaking in every movie like every 5 minutes😂
Nick you’re such a sweetheart. Every time you felt for Toothless hit so hard. Loved your reaction to the movie ❤️
This is my favourite movie score ever. It's straight up perfect
When he touched Toothless for the first time is so Iconic
Ice Age, How To Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Rio were all scored by John Powell, who has an uncanny talent for making music sound particularly magical.
One thing that's cool about the score: Several major characters have their own musical cues, including Hiccup and Toothless (nothing new there, that's true of a lot of films). But the Flying Theme is, if you listen closely, the themes for Hiccup and Toothless played on top of each other. Up to that point, you were only hearing half of a piece of music at any one time, and the moment Hiccup throws away his cheat sheet and starts flying by instinct, the two halves find and complete each other.
Dude, my man, I LOVE your reactions!!!!! They are the best!!!! I am so happy you reacted to my favorite movie!!!
