HTTYD is probably one of the best animated trilogies of all time. When you get to the third movie, you'll feel so many emotions, and you'll get why they told their story in three parts.
Something I haven’t seen anyone mention is that Hiccup losing his leg is mean to reflect Toothless’ loss of his tail. The two are symmetrical and it’s honestly a beautiful way to show their bond, it’s also theory that Toothless had to bite off Hiccup’s foot in order to save him, I like it because then both took something from the other but together they are whole
Toothless biting off his leg to save him makes so much more sense than it being burned off. It is beautiful to show how they took something from each other and are connected that way.
@@jessicamorgan2438 i spent years believing that his leg got burned off or something, and it was only a few months back that i came across this theory, and it makes total sense. love it.
This movie is good because of the big things (music, sweeping panoramas, action scenes) but is GREAT for the small things (toothless' eyes, Stoic's changing tone and posture when just around his son versus being in front of the village (it shows that Stoic cares about Hiccup but doesn't know how to raise/treat him.)). If you missed it, when Stoic walks out he takes a half stumble back realizing he had gone too far but then squares himself to lead the village. One of the theories on Hiccup loosing the leg is that Toothless actually tore/damaged it grabbing him in the fall as it was the first part of him that Toothless could reach.
You would be surprised that one of the screen directors and writers, Chris Sanders, is the voice of Stitch and the creator of Lilo and Stitch. When you look at Toothless you notice that he has a lot of looks and personalities just like Stitch, which is very cool and a nice touch.
On Gobber's stone "tooth": he's using the stone to fill in the gap to keep his teeth from getting all screwy. I've got a broken tooth, but no dentist will pull it. Without a bridge, the teeth on either side would shift, loosen, and fall over to fill the gap, causing more problems than the broken tooth already is. So Gobber using a false tooth is pretty advanced dentistry for their society. Besides How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda trilogies, I love Rise Of The Guardians. It often gets overlooked, but it was made in the middle of DreamWorks' hot streak, when they were making the best animated films ever
This is what I'm talking about Mello! The fact you get so emotionally invested in the films you watch is the reason why I keep coming back. Its clear you take the medium very seriously. Good on you for having the courage to lay your heart out there for us to see. I really appreciate you, mate! As always I look forward to the next reaction
When hiccups dad walks out the door after disowning him. I love the beat he has to take and the realization. You can see on his face that he should have never said that. You can see it and it's amazing that that's inanimation we can still see that
Definitely keep going with the series, hands down the best animated trilogy out there. While I love the Kung Fu Panda movies, this franchise blows it out of the water, there is just so much more character development and growth throughout!
@@christopherrdulin7289 I've seen it, and it is a great movie. However, the 3rd film is extremely repetitive in its themes, identity issues and existential crises, not to mention Po is essentially the same character after 3 movies as he was in the first. There is no real personal growth, only the accumulation of more abilities. Something you can't say of Hiccup or the other main characters in the HTTYD trilogy.
I was obsessed with dragons when I was a kid and I was born in 2000, which was the year of the dragon. This movie held a special place in my heart as a child.
I do find it funny how they added so much detail to the HTTYD guidebook in the movie since in the original book, it only contained one sentence: "YELL AT IT!"
I love Stoic and Hiccups relationship. They love eachother but struggle to understand eachother. Hiccup wants to be the man his Father is, Stoic finds it easier to lead a war than raise his son. It would have been so easy to make him unlikeable, but we see how much it hurts him to think he's lost his son. Definitely watch the sequels.
There's a little Mini-movie that came out called "Book of Dragons" which basically showed all the dragons that were in the book. Definitely recommend seeing it for just some of the different species of dragons in this world. 👌
9:22 yes it does, tail controls rise and descend in flight for birds and helps maintain stability. There's a reason why choppers have small rotors on the tail and planes have tails
Dude your reactions to this was absolutely worth it! Please do see the sequel, it really shows so much character growth for Hiccup and the gang. The dragons and the world also expands massively!!! And the music is chef’s kiss.
21:20 ... don't worry, to this day I get tears in my eyes anytime I hear "romantic flight" especially if you watch any orchestra play the soundtrack: whenever that song intro starts - you'll start balling your eyes out. this is the way.
This was one of my childhood favorites. I’d give it a solid 9.5/10. The animations haven’t aged the best in the world but it’s soch a great movie and that soundtrack tho 👌😏
It’s so great seeing you be so moved by the masterpiece that is this movie. The HTTYD trilogy is the best cinematic trilogy-yes, EVER, imo. The third one had my grown self weeping. I can’t wait for you to experience the other movies. They’re a rollercoaster for sure.
HTTYD has some amazing worldbuilding, it's cool that they made the dragons more like animals, then just mindless killers. They are out for survival, and you can tell. Love your videos man hope you continue to grow
The topic of sanitation with all those dragons actually comes up in one of the Netflix series. They basically have the dragons do their duty in the farms because manure makes for good fertilizer.
The prevailing theory of why Hiccup lost his foot is that Toothless grabbed him by the foot as they fell into the fire but did it so fast he ripped off Hiccup’s foot.
This is one of if not my favorite animated movie of all time and partially because of the score and the theme and I know it's an animated film but still the flying scenes are directed and shot gorgeously
I love Stoick so much bro I could go on for hours just about his character in the first movie. There is so much details about his character that often go unnoticed unless you really think about it. He is definitely one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise.
The flying scenes are SO beautiful and SO majestic you really can’t help but get teary eyed. I saw the movie in 3D and they did it right. I went in with low expectations and came out changed. No kidding.
Oh man...this movie... As a film junkie, one of the best acted and animated films (the whole trilogy, for that matter) in recent times. But damn does it hold a place in my heart. Had to move for a new job and asked some old friends if could room with them. They had just brought their newborn home, but agreed since my share of bills would really help. Was with them for about 3 years until something better came up, but then that fell through after few years. Managed to get something else lined up in the old town and asked if could move back in with them. Since we were great friends, it was a 'how fast you gonna get here?' By then, this was their daughter's favorite movie. Like...at least twice a day. One night, after finishing it and trying to get her off to bed, her mom asked "Dragons is really good, but why do you want to watch it so much?" Kiddo, with all the 6/7 yo happiness and energy "Because it's Uncle Cajun's favorite too!" (because that was nickname everyone called me, being from SE TX and living in Oklahoma). Me "I mean...you mom is right, it's good. But we can watch other movies if you want." Kid "No! You aren't related, but you're my favorite Uncle. We love this movie!"
SO glad you have started watching the best animated trilogy of all time (in my opinion ofc). I hope you will like all the parts, just as me and millions of fans around the world do.
Yeah, that particular dragon controlled the others out of fear. Not some kind of mind control or anything like that. Also, of the trilogy, number 2 is my favorite.

There’s a self titled metal album from a band called Shadow of the Colossus and it’s all inspired from the game and while the whole album is fire the instrumental is absolutely beautiful
There are actually 2 TV shows. Riders of Berk/Defenders of Berk from Cartoon Network and Race to the edge on Netflix. There are also some 30ish minute shorts, like Gift of the Night Fury, and Homecoming(which you cannot watch until after 3!!!!!) I know there are probably more I'm forgetting.
This isn't just my favourite animate film of all time, but it is probably my favourite film ever! In fact my favourite franchise ever since I really enjoy the sequels too! I became obsessed film this franchise and characters. I ended up religiously watching the Netflix series too. So glad that you enjoyed this so much. I totally agree with you on the beautiful scenes and the soundtrack. I listen to the soundtrack of all three films regularly.
What makes the score such a masterpiece is the harmonizing of two separate themes established earlier in the movie. The first flight score is a culmination of hiccups theme and toothless's theme.
Interesting bit of lore. Snotlout and Hiccup are cousins. The tall black haired man seen standing next to Stoic when discussing there plan to invade the nest at the beginning of the movie. Is Snotlout's father and Stoics Brother.
I think literally yesterday I commented on your Kung Fu Panda reaction that httyd was my favorite dreamworks movie and now the next day you post your reaction to it... Love it
Fun fact: in the TV series for the movies, Hiccup and Toothless found a brand-new species of dragon that not only eats eels, but they found a specific kind of eel that it eats in particular to supercharge its fire breath--and I mean *supercharge* It was really interesting
All three movies are perfect! This is one of my favorite movies/trilogies of all time, and there isn't a weak link. I agree that the soundtrack is amazing (I tend to focus on the soundtracks of movies a lot in general, and this is perfect), but the entire movie is amazing, in every way. I'm pretty sure there's 3d versions of all of these, but I've only seen one of them in 3d (and I don't remember which one). I just remember that whichever one it was used it perfectly, and it added even more to an already perfect movie. I'm looking forward to your reactions to 2 and 3!
Not gonna lie. I am happy that you are, probably, the only reactioner who is getting astonished by music and picturesque views. I really was happy for you when I saw that excitement on your face (17:28). This is really relatable!
Here's a little trivia for you: these movies were actually based off a 12 book series by Cressida Cowell, and in those books, Toothless actually looked and acted more like that tiny green dragon that stole movie Toothless's fish at 17:52
The t.v. series was the story in between these movies. It followed the story right up until the last movie. There is also a Christmas short that is really good and a handful of random shorts within the dvds. The T.V. Series is broken up into three spin-offs. How To Train Your Dragon: Riders of Berk Defenders of Berk Race to the Edge
Yessssssss, god I love this movie so much! :D As for your questions - my favorite of the HTTYD movies is the second one (I haven’t and will not watch the third movie for personal reasons, but I adore the other two), and my favorite overall Dreamworks movie is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I absolutely recommend it for a reaction - it has absolutely gorgeous 2D animation, some of the best horse designs and animation in film, a fantastically unique and emotional way of telling the story without having the animals talk, and a phenomenal soundtrack. It’s probably my favorite movie of all time, and it’s criminally underrated, so I always go to bat for it in terms of recommending it. :D
The soundtrack when they draw together and their first flight probably the best soundtrack out of the 3 movies, the 3 tv series, the 2? 3? tie-in specials, and that one race competition/anthology-esk series.
Favorite dreamworks film is 100% how to train your dragon with kung fu panda as a close second. Those as well as the bee movie are the best 2000s cartoon films in my opinion
I think my favorite theory for this movie is about Hiccup's leg and how the only feesible way for Toothless to get to him to save him was to bite onto his leg and therefore ended up biting it completely off. The fire surrounding could have partially cauterized the wound to stop bleeding i guess. But there's just something really satisfying about how it mirrors Hiccup injurying Toothless' tail.
I'll never forget my first time watching this movie. I graduated high school 2010 and was about to start college FOR 3D Animation. I had recently been diagnosed with autism and severe PTSD, so seeing someone like Hiccup getting the respect and dignity he deserves, him bonding with Toothless (dinosaurs and dragons were a huge fixation for me as a child and now I know it was my autism that made me hyperfixate) and then....he becomes disabled. This movie I think just might be perfect due to the way the story moves. The shows are all FOR bridging the movies together and are excellent. Everyone comes back to recast their characters in show AND movie. And everything is explained while building up character relationships. I adore Hiccup not only because I see myself struggling growing up too, but also because his biggest weapon isn't his intellect. It's his empathy. Staring into Toothless' eyes made him have empathy for a reptile, one of the most common demonized animals due to how humans fear their eyes and skin. And he risked his life several times trying to protect Toothless from humans, and Toothless does so in kind. Without that empathy, none of this was possible. Thank you for watching this and being so honest and open with the audience. I cry at the end every time and it's nice to see this movie really get people with really experiencing those feelings.
There are games in development where you're basically a dragonrider, riding dragons against other players in PvP match. There are also a couple survival style games where you can play AS a dragon (similar to The Isle). The game where you fight giant monsters by climbing them is indeed Shadow of The Colossus. Dragon's Dogma also has similar mechanics when you fight big enemies.
I love how you love the music as much as I do. Great movie Phenomenal soundtrack. Killer story Much needed life lesson about prejudice, becoming something great when the world thinks you're pathetic, how to forgive. That life altering John Powell score is what came over you. I saw this in theaters, and Test Drive had me with tears in my eyes.
This was a spectacular reaction. I don't think I can pick a favorite. Maybe two even though it's bitter sweet. I cant wait to see you watch the rest of the trilogy.
This is hands down my favorite animated film. The sequel is also really really good (it has a song my husband and I danced to at our wedding). But yeah, the music and animation are top notch, but its the stories that really hit home for me. You can really tell that everyone from the cast and animators to the writers and musicians all really wanted to work together and make something worthwhile. There's a ton of truly excellent animated films out there, but this one holds a very special place in my heart.
Here's the order: Gift if the Night Fury (On Netflix) Riders of Berk (Peacock) Defenders of Berk (Peacock) Race to the Edge (Netflix) 2nd Movie (Streaming? I have on DVD) 3rd Movie (Streaming? I have on DVD) Snoggletog short (forgot name/Streaming? Dragons: the 9th Realm (Peacock) There is a preschool series call Rescue Riders. It's also on Peacock.
I'd say that this movie is less about finding yourself (although that theme is certainly present), and more about listening. Stoick plays the role of the main antagonist in this one. And the thing that makes him the antagonist is his inability to listen. Especially to Hiccup. He talks over him, and never tries to see the world as Hiccup sees it. Meanwhile, Hiccup learns how to train your dragon BECAUSE he listens. He does the work to understand them, and he and Toothless work together so well because they learn to listen to each other. And then the entire final act of the movie is kicked off by Stoick refusing to listen to Hiccup's warnings about the dragon island. So he went in unprepared. But the teens are able to work together and save the village because they DID listen to Hiccup.
This is this really good video out there about why the opening number of HTTYD has the best opening ever and if you love the music so much you should totally check it out. You should also see if you can find some clips from How to Train Your Dragon: Live Spectacular, they took all the music and all the characters and made it on-stage production with animatronic dragons. DreamWorks has some incredible movies with equally amazing music. The Prince of Egypt (with its catchy and moving songs) and Spirit, stallion of the Cimarron (which did an epic thing where the only time you hear instruments is when there are people on screen, and as it is set mostly in the unsettled west, most of the music is made by through technology) are some of the best. As a newer subscriber, I hope it's OK if I make one more recommendation to add to your likely already long list. Aside from the prince of Egypt and spirit, you should totally check out Disney's Atlantis: the lost Empire. It is a criminally underrated film surprisingly diverse cast for its time period; it is an epic and the action-adventure movie Disney should be putting at the top of the live-action list.
I recently rewatched all three of these they are all so good I can't choose witch of the 3is my favorite, definitely continue with the trilogy. Great reaction.

that shot immediately after Stoic tells Hiccup "you're not my son" where he staggers back and looks horrified like "What have I done?!" is the only reason i did not hate Stoic after that

I love that you've found your way to this series, trust me they only get more emotional as you progress through the movies lol.
The "How to Train Your Dragon" trilogy is one story arc, the cinematography is superb, the writing is excellent.
Best animated movie of all time. And the trilogy doesn't miss a beat, absolute perfection from first till last. You're in for a treat!
I hope you plan on continuing the trilogy 🙏
Hilarious edits XD
I had a mouthful of hot tea at 26:00 and I almost LOST IT ALL 😂
Glad it wasn't just me! This man had me gasping for air 😂
It makes it so much more significant that stoicks apology speech came BEFORE hiccups victory. And he was proud of his son whether he won or not :)
I forgot how good the soundtrack was. It's sooooo good
11:57 Man I love you and your editors 😂❤
10:00 there was a show on Cartoon Network around a decade ago. It had a few seasons and was surprisingly good
I think literally yesterday I commented on your Kung Fu Panda reaction that httyd was my favorite dreamworks movie and now the next day you post your reaction to it... Love it
Craig Ferguson once pointed to a picture of his character(Gobber) and said, "This drawing is a much better actor than I am."
I am httyd's BIGGEST FAN, and in the background at the beginning the silhouette is TOOTHLESS.
Fun fact: in the TV series for the movies, Hiccup and Toothless found a brand-new species of dragon that not only eats eels, but they found a specific kind of eel that it eats in particular to supercharge its fire breath--and I mean *supercharge*
It was really interesting
It's awesome that you already praised the hair. Movie 2 introduced a few new technologies and the hair among all the other things is wildly improved
How To Train Your Dragon:
Riders of Berk
Defenders of Berk
Race to the Edge
I think the edits, this reaction, are some of my favorite.
T.J. Miller, who voices one of the Viking teens, is also in "She's Out Of My League," with Jay Baruchel.
this movie is great already, but personally i think the 2nd movie is the best. Please do continue to watch the rest of the movies in this trilogy!
Favorite dreamworks film is 100% how to train your dragon with kung fu panda as a close second. Those as well as the bee movie are the best 2000s cartoon films in my opinion
My guy, you need to watch “Without a Paddle”. Comedy. You’ll love it.
I cannot for the life of me recommend enough Training Day it's an am classic iconic low budget crime thriller movie. I believe it won an Oscar
Rise of the guardians
Hell yes
There are games in development where you're basically a dragonrider, riding dragons against other players in PvP match. There are also a couple survival style games where you can play AS a dragon (similar to The Isle).
The game where you fight giant monsters by climbing them is indeed Shadow of The Colossus. Dragon's Dogma also has similar mechanics when you fight big enemies.
I love how you love the music as much as I do.
Great movie
Phenomenal soundtrack.
Killer story
Much needed life lesson about prejudice, becoming something great when the world thinks you're pathetic, how to forgive.
That life altering John Powell score is what came over you. I saw this in theaters, and Test Drive had me with tears in my eyes.
This is my favorite film of all time , all HTTYD movies are my favorite
2:07 I was waiting for you to say "this movie's gonna be fire"
I honestly haven’t seen it in years, but this was one of my favorite movies for awhile.
This was a spectacular reaction. I don't think I can pick a favorite. Maybe two even though it's bitter sweet. I cant wait to see you watch the rest of the trilogy.
Flushed away,Megamind, shark tale and the bee movie are good dreamworks movies
This is hands down my favorite animated film. The sequel is also really really good (it has a song my husband and I danced to at our wedding). But yeah, the music and animation are top notch, but its the stories that really hit home for me. You can really tell that everyone from the cast and animators to the writers and musicians all really wanted to work together and make something worthwhile. There's a ton of truly excellent animated films out there, but this one holds a very special place in my heart.
''One Of The Best Animated Movies!'' totally agreed!! 100%
Here's the order:
Gift if the Night Fury (On Netflix)
Riders of Berk (Peacock)
Defenders of Berk (Peacock)
Race to the Edge (Netflix)
2nd Movie (Streaming? I have on DVD)
3rd Movie (Streaming? I have on DVD)
Snoggletog short (forgot name/Streaming?
Dragons: the 9th Realm (Peacock)
There is a preschool series call Rescue Riders.
Absolutely loved this reaction! Please continue this triology.
It is a criminally underrated film surprisingly diverse cast for its time period; it is an epic and the action-adventure movie Disney should be putting at the top of the live-action list.
eragon was my fav movie for years, you should definitely watch it
So, in Forbidden Friendship, the “scribbles” Toothless draws is supposed to be Hiccup! 🥺💕 specifically when Hiccup is reaching out his hand.
I recently rewatched all three of these they are all so good I can't choose witch of the 3is my favorite, definitely continue with the trilogy. Great reaction.
Really loved your reaction! As someone who greatly admires animation, it made me grin every time you pointed out a detail and gave it the respect it deserved
All your reactions were 10/10 and made me laugh at points. I really recommend watching the others if you liked this one :)
You need to do the rest of the series please! We've been dying for it!! I hope you see this man
One of my favorite movies period. across genres. thank you for the reaction.
that shot immediately after Stoic tells Hiccup "you're not my son" where he staggers back and looks horrified like "What have I done?!" is the only reason i did not hate Stoic after that
Such an incredible movie!
I’m so glad you did this one! This is absolutely the best trilogy ever. I was dealing with a lot of depression during this time and I’d put this movie on all the time and just feel better.
I'll never get tired of watching people's reacrion to my all time favorite movie,
It Was Released In 2010 By PDI Animation Before The Bad Guys In 2022
