Ike was impressed with the Autobahn system in Germany while he was there during WWII. He decided the U S needed it. Every so often there was supposed to be a flat level stretch so that planes could use it as an emergency runway!

I was running team with my late father in the winter of 97. We had a hot load for Southern California that we had grabbed out of Davenport IA and it was the night shift. That was my shift of the team. I got the drivers seat at Grand Island. I grabbed the weather radio and was listening to the weather reports for both Colorado and Wyoming. Wyoming was getting hammered by a winter storm that was coming Southwest out of Idaho and Montana and it was dropping snow and ice on I-80 and the state had just closed I80 across Elk Mountain due to high winds and blowing snow. So it was 76 to 70 and over Ike and Vail we went. My dad wakes up the next morning sees that we are CO and goes why are we on 70 you never run 70 in the winter. I went Elk was closed due to a blizzard and Rawlins was expecting 2 feet of snow overnight. He went okay you made the right choice then. We hit a minor snow fall in UT but nothing major.

Kevin and Tanya you guys are young enough and you will be getting a new truck before you know it...... put in your request now and remind them that you want a kw as your next truck. Supposedly they are a much better riding truck from all the drivers I've asked. Give them time to get in their minds you want the kw. They will do it for you.

HI, I know you noted that the grade was 7% for seven miles. A couple of "inside baseball" questions. What was your gross wait, did you Jake keep you down to 35 by itself, or how much breaking did Kevin have to do to keep it down there? Love your videos, I thought I would get a little bored with this one, but you commentary and the scenery made it very enjoyable.

I have been through this grade many times. But was always going from W to E. Never E to W. First time I was very heavy in a old International 9400 Eagle. Very border line on the weight. It took a long time to climb that grade. Don't think I got over 15, maybe 20 MPH max the entire trip up.

Glad you enjoyed the scenery! Everybody is different and has different priorities and finances. We paid for Kevin’s CDL ourselves as we did not want to be beholden to anyone and we’re able to get it for only $4,000 at Phoenix Truck Driving Institute. Werner reimbursed Kevin over $200 per month toward that and would have reimbursed all of it if he’d stayed longer. So those are other things for you to think about and research. 😃 Best of luck with your decision making.
