I’m down on my back from arthritis. (76) yrs. so good to ride with you on UT. 30 mg of morphine not working tonight. This gets my mind off my pain. Thank you for baby sitting🤗
I’ve been sick for 3 days. Yesterday I was so bored with RUclips. None of the randomness in my feed was hitting my comfort spot. I tried documentaries, road rage fights, religious/political debates, fail videos, etc. None of them were curing my boredom. Then I came across your videos of you driving through the mountains. That’s when my mind finally relaxed. Thanks, man.
I've never seen this part of the country in snow before and was blown away by how beautiful it was, and from the snow and ice, as someone who lives in a tropical climate. Respect for a man who knows his job and does it so well!
👍For the rookies: this man knows his stuff👍, only thing I’d add about using the engine break in snow is… 1)you better lock you gear in manual mode if you’re driving an automatic. 2) no sudden movements if you throttle out of a slide, everything is gradual. Gradual throttle, gradual turn correction, gradual braking. I completely agree with you about the jake (engine brake) I drive dedicated Colorado to California, so I’m in that everyday other day during every winter. and I almost ALWAYS use the engine break on the downgrades in the snow to help maintain a steady speed. Great video hope I don’t seem rude, just wanted to build a little more on what you said.
My f-i-law worked in the Ft. Pitt tunnels in Pittsburgh. I marveled how they achieved making them given the tools they had at hand. I can't help but marvel how they put roads in here. In some areas it looks like the rock face is merely feet away!
CO native here. I wish people would learn to drive in these conditions OR know they can't, and stay put (including truckers not just civilian cars). Thanks for this! CO weather can change in a FLASH!
As a rookie (2 years) I've watched your videos to learn how to drive in these conditions and they've saved my ass I don't know how many times. Thank you sincerely
Heyo, Mike With my maps and street view and the satellites, feeding the cat, and makin up super, you and i have spent the evening together. You give a good ride Mike. Smooth, no bumps, no errors. BTY, i'm an old cabinetmaker and sawdust producer. I've also hauled rock with double bottom dumps and slam-bangin transfer dumps. ...up and down the left coast, CA., OR., WA., what a gas. Happy Trails, Buen Camino
I loved it ! Keep videos coming and your voice is great this is really calming to me . Memories of my daddy driving all over that states. Thank you so much . The Continental Divide , Georgetown ❤️
So am I !! I love sitting in the front seat with Mike driving in the mountains!!! In good weather and in bad weather!! I enjoy him telling what gears he is in and why, etc. 🤗♥️
Oh this is ABSOLUTELY what I needed to see...Would love to see more of this Rain changing to snow to blizzard stuff...Thanks for taking the time to go out for us!!! Also "Steep Grade Up Ahead" Eddie Rabbitt wrote that song "those windshield wipers snappin out a tempo..keepin perfect witht he rhythm of the radioooo....gotta keep arollin'" Drivin' My Life away...RIP.
Love these videos! ❤ Well done for keeping us up-to-date, MMM. I know I-70 a little bit from when I lived/worked in Denver in 1984 and many subsequent visits. Rob from UK
Nice ride thanks , I'm from Gunnison, lived in El Jebel worked in Aspen and Glenwood Springs , been over that road many a time ,I see the Turkeys still drive the same !! Keep the shiny side up and thanks for your service to us.
So cool how coming out of Eisenhower tunnel you can come out in what looks like a different world. I've seen that long downhill stretch take out a ton of cars heading west after exiting the tunnel.
I love riding along with you. It gives me peace. It reminds me of when I was 7 & 8 yrs old I used to ride with my dad on "day trips". Basically from Louisville to up around Akron. Good memories. He died on the job in Dec '76 in the Indy area.
Hi there, I just wanted to thank you for this, I use to be up in these beautiful mountains all my life! I’m almost seventy now, those days are over, Thanks for the memories. May God ride shotgun & keep you safe!
My late uncle was an OTR trucker for 40+ years….enjoy hearing about your days, loads, personal jibber jabber, and just watching the journey down the road. Ty for sharing it all!
I’m sure your uncle had faced many different issues.. WEATHER, CRAZY DRIVERS, POLICE, SLOW TRAFFIC, DIFFERENT KINDS OF WRECKS and CONSTRUCTIONS. Probably over 10 million miles he drove… had his PATIENCE over 40 year worked… he deserved… thanks!
I love these videos, cuz you don't really think about what these drivers are carrying, and what could cause them to tip over. This gives me so much more respect for the men and women who keep our country moving. Thank you.
I saw Matt’s video where he talked about mind over cold too, and it works! To a point… I lived in Alaska for six years. Twenty below and no matter what you’re thinking about, ten minutes and you are a pop sickle. I once had to change out a starter on a sheet of ice and decided I’d rather do it in a foot of rain. Moved south. Thanks for the ride! (Originally from Colorado)
Funny, I was doing the opposite direction exactly the same time... must have passed this guy! I did a round trip from Colorado to California and back a week later. It was alarming to see at least 10 occasions of truckers drifting off the side of the road, waking up, over-correcting, and having a hard time straightening out. It was particularly alarming to see the 3-trailer FedEx trucks doing that!
Glad you went this way instead of the certifiable debacle that was 70 between St. Louis and KC... 2.2.22 was the worst driving day in my 30 years... actually had a supertrucker trying to pass me and literally went into the median as he got caught up in the ice, etc. Terrible sound, freaked me out a bit, pulled off at Betty's and after 3 hours got going again, 20 minutes later, saw my first ever live jackknife... Real bad day. Had to have been at least 15, maybe close to 20 various wrecks. Doesn't include the ramps and that sordid mess. Stay safe.
Spoiler alert: it snows! :) Thanks for sharing. We live in Littleton/Columbine, just at the foothills about 12 miles west of the Broncos stadium. We just had more than a foot of snow fall on us. Schools were actually closed for the day... very rare around here! But the hiking trails were open, and my wife and I enjoyed an after in the mountains in snow and 7 degrees! Again, thanks for sharing a little familiar piece of home.
I don’t miss driving in the winter time going over passes not knowing when I’m going to chain up I really appreciate all your shotgun videos I can tell your a awesome safe driver in all weather ✌🏻❤️🤘🏻💞💞😇🙏
I'm watching from the UK. It blows my mind the distances you guys travel. We can do the length of our country in a day. Probably like crossing a state to you, that's crazy!! Love your videos.
I love your videos. Especially seeing all the snow. Can we do more rides on your drop off and deliveries? Stay safe and I knew you wouldn't chain up lol.
Been through there a couple of times, had to drive through a huge Summer Storm that had most traffic stopped. Luckily I tucked in behind a big rig and followed him at a snails pace near the Eisenhower Tunnels. Was fun once, wouldn't like it for a job.
Mike, thanks for the ride along. You're still my source for road trips. I found Matt's Off Road Recovery not too long ago. Have you seen "We Dragged This Car 10 Miles Through the Desert?" It's hilarious.
Just found your channel. Love it. I'm in western Montana, heading out to Missouri in a couple weeks to train for my CDL. Hoping to get in some snow and mountains with a good trainer before springtime.
I love the mountains, wish I could live out that way (live in Ohio). And I like going through Denver on I70 better than I80 through Medicine Bow even though I80 is quicker for where we go. We have stayed in a hotel in Idaho Springs on our way to elk camp in NW Colorado. Nice little town. Was able to see several big horn sheep on the sheer rock walls there on I70 early in the morning. Amazing animals. Thanks for the video

Hi Shotgun! I haven't run across you in quite a while. Again, I love to ride along and guess what exit is next to dust off my memories of the Colorado mountains. This gives one a greater respect to what you truckers must go through to bring us our goods.
I take this drive to go skiing in Keystone every other weekend but I try not to have to do it in inclement weather. That being said, when you book a $250/night room for the weekend you have to make the drive regardless, and it can be terrifying, especially coming out of Eisenhower tunnel with icy roads ( you never really know what it’s going to look like on the side of the continental divide) and having to come down that damn hill into Silverthorne. Btw, I guarantee they closed I70 both directions shortly after this was filmed. They usually don’t let it get much worse, these are some serious conditions, glad you made it through safely ✌🏼
Thanks for sharing your adventure. I don’t experience this type of weather condition while driving in Florida. You make it look easy, good job being safe👍
According to my stop watch you are running 62 MPH. I am watching you on my Atlas, This is how I kept track of my Trucks when they were running. I could tell them what their next exit was usually every time.
You have a GREAT GREAT channel! Love the long interactive drives. I feel I can be outside out of the UK on your journeys. Lots of love from Birmingham, UK.
This past November, I hit 20 years doing the same run, my run is usually from Denver to Wamsutter but if 80 is closed, then I go to Fruita and meet the SLC DRIVER switch trailers and come back to Denver. I always use my jake brakes, you just have to know what you are doing up in the mountains when you're driving a semi and you must know your weight in order to use your Jake's and I always slide my tandems all the way to back on the trailer.
Living here in Wisconsin we have snow but we also use our headlights in weather like this. I’m sure those who live in the mountains are used to these type of road conditions, but where does safety come in? How many accidents do they deal with up there, would be interesting to know
I drive dedicated colorado-utah-california and every winter accidents are everywhere. most just slide off to the shoulder or ditch. mostly 4wheelers that don't have 4wd/awd. honestly only a few truckers per week wreck in winter. not sure if that's because of the chain laws. most rookies will just pull over in Colorado rather than putting on chains, and families just stay at home. but Utah is a different story! south of salt lake to cedar city are the most idiots you will find. it feels like wrecks everyday that it snows. it is truly the transition area from Las Vegas to salt lake that catches so many people off guard with black ice. a blizzard in Colorado is easier to drive in, than speeders on a crowed interstate with black ice.
I'm from PA. And people out here are the same with their headlights. Not just snow but rain, too. Because I know this, I triple check making sure it's definitely clear. Them cars with no headlights are scary.
Love being allowed to ride along . You're informative , entertaining ,and I agree with most of your politics . You're a consummate professional and I always feel safe as we journey to so many scenic places .
I've ridden many miles with you, still looking for the paycheck---researched the Eisenhower, learned there IS no mountain tied to the tunnel; also as a Texan who is a Lyndon Hater, was happy to discover that the ""Johnson "" Tunnel is NOT LBJ......you're title is really apt this time----as you've said many times, the weather is completely different on each side of the big Hole....gl
I have lived in this area for 20 years. I live in Brighton, co now. Going over the mountains in co, isn't easy for truckers. But the views are amazing. At least you're going up, going down is much harder. Be safe out there, lots of crazies out driving.
in Germany we drive with lights on when it snows and visibility is poor. In addition, the cars in the left lane drive much too fast when there is snow and maybe icy.
It's always fun as a Coloradan to watch your videos and see how close you are to my house/try to find where you are based on the street signs/highway signs, or see the roads I drive every day from your point of view. unincorporated Jefferson County (technically but not technically Golden Gang) Note for other regular car drivers, remember to give a good bit of space when merging in front of a semi whenever you can!
I try to follow my own rule of if I can make eye contact with the driver of a semi in my rearview I have room to merge, but honestly your videos have really helped put into perspective what you guys see as my little mom car Elantra pulls in front of you. Hopefully the BMW and Audi drivers of Colorado watch this video too and make the same mental note lmao. Keep on keepin on!
Not sure why they don't use the throttle to get up to speed.. it's like they mosey up to the lane at 40 mph then they decide to get to 65 after they are completely on the fwy.
As a firefighter who's mostly dealt with highway accidents, the absolute rage I feel when people cut a 25,000 semi off with at least 30,000 pounds of cargo expecting y'all to stop on a dime. It honestly should be mandatory to have a separate section of drivers ed dedicated solely to semis. You guys keep this country running and I can't even begin to imagine the stress you guys feel. God bless you all.
Jake on 1 or 2 is just fine in the snow. IF you know what your doing and understand physics. Not using a Jake on steep hills to assist and relying on the brakes is dangerous. If a driver doesn’t know how to implement a Jake they shouldn’t be driving truck. I’m from Vermont and was taught by a 50 year veteran on snowy roads in the mountains. Been doing this since 99 and never had a major issue using it.
I’m down on my back from arthritis. (76) yrs. so good to ride with you on UT. 30 mg of morphine not working tonight. This gets my mind off my pain. Thank you for baby sitting🤗

I have lived in this area for 20 years. I live in Brighton, co now. Going over the mountains in co, isn't easy for truckers. But the views are amazing. At least you're going up, going down is much harder. Be safe out there, lots of crazies out driving.
Thanks Mike !!!! Please Don't Retire & Keep em Coming... 😉👍👍
Snowstorms…my favorite videos of yours
Me too I like watching matt's off road recovery
My blood pressure actually rose watching this. And I found myself gritting my teeth, lol.
in Germany we drive with lights on when it snows and visibility is poor. In addition, the cars in the left lane drive much too fast when there is snow and maybe icy.
Hello Mike, good to see that you are doing well. Just out of curiosity, have you ever thought about in winter, sticking to the banana belt?
We're about to get a Noreaster. Stay safe!
For sure you also.. ☮️
Nice Matt. Glad to help with your inspector games.. ☮️
God bless you all.

please be careful mike like your videos
Mike, Praying for your safe travels and all OTRT in the winter weather. Be safe and stay safe driving.
Matt's recovery....great channel. Out of Hurricane Utah. I was born in St. George...and now live in Payson Ut. Love your channel too ❤
Thank you, Mike!
