Now there's a game begging for a updated remake / reimagining where they keep the badass soundtrack unchanged but the difficulty isn't designed to steal your quarters at the arcade. Don't get me wrong: I like my Castlevanias balls to the wall hard but this game is beyond cheap and some revisions are harder than others.
The soundtrack from this game is SOLID! Packed with lots of great original tunes of its own, and some familiar songs like the famous Bloody Tears. This OST really puts me into the game's atmosphere.
I like to imagine this game takes place after castlevania 3 where Dracula is revived pre-maturely and the protagonist has to slay Dracula and save his wife.
there actually is a game that takes place circa castlevania 1, probably before. it's called order of shadows and its a real obscure flip phone game that wasnt made by the japanese devs and might not be canon. dracula is revived early in that game. haunted castle i think is just one of the reimaginings of the original castlevania along with castlevania 4, castlevania chronicles, and vampire killer msx

I like to think haunted castle as an in-between castlvania 2 and 4. Simon finally freed himself from the curse and decides to settle down. Until dracula attacks him the day of his wedding.
@@frozenburst6463This game better fits as a sequel to SCV4 , because at the end of SCV4 Dracula splits into multiple bats . And then one of the bats survives and Dracula decides to kidnap Simon's wife .
honestly? the two japanese revisions, while still sort of a buggy mess at times, are quite fun to play and really made me appreciate this game. comparing it to say, arcade Contra, it stands pretty nicely. i've also heard good things about revision K of the US release, but revision M... :|
Dude this game is so fucking hard im not kidding you problably dont want to, and im not talking about being difficulty like dark souls this is the hardest game i've ever played
If you play this, play the version K, E, or the Japanese version. This game has a version M and it is completely BS, there are traps that insta kill you, enemies can kill you in 4 hits, and I think item spawn rate is lower. Mix that with some janky hitboxes a limit of 3 continues and version M is unplayable.

It's the most Castlevania sounding track ever. I think it appears again in one of the ds games.
Its like most arcade games, you must learn entire game..... not harder than other arcades.
Cross your Heart. it's a very good theme to a very unforgiving game.
There is a non-used Rondo of Blood version, you should listen it is amazing

All the games ezcept Lament of Innocence take place after CV3. Haunted Castle is just another version of the first game.
