    In the future, please spend some time indoors, in poor lighting. Everyone always reviews phones, outdoors, and every phone nowadays can grab a nice shot of a flower, tree, sunset, etc. but can it take photos of my cats, indoors, with a lamp on, or in the dark? That's what I care about, lol. I care about how a camera works in poor lighting. Would love to see how a photographer would handle that.

    Great video very detailed! The 4a does however have an astrophotography mode like the 4 etc. It's available under night sight mode and you need to use a tripod to keep it still enough, then it will active astrophotography mode.

      @TheProjectPhotography  4 года назад

      Huh, I knew it could shoot astro but I didn't know there was a dedicated mode for it. Thanks for letting me know. My main reservation about using it is that I can't stack the sky images and that I won't be able to blend foreground images with the sky to produce the intended result. So although you could use it for astro I most likely would stick with my cameras.

    Regarding the panorama, I think there should be a Photo Sphere mode in the "more" section that you can use instead. It should be similar to what you described on the Pixel 2, but with added features. If it's not there then maybe they didn't include it anymore in Pixel 4a (Pixel 3 user here).

    I found your channel pretty late. Just found it today and I am glad you made a video on the 4a from a photography enthusiast perspective. I do have a few questions if you wouldn't mind? I am a Canon EOS user so I am very much interested in your answers.
    a) Is the aperture fixed or is it adjustable like a DSLR/Mirrorless lens?
    b) is the focal length mention adjusted to be a 35mm camera body equivalent, and if not, what would the crop factor be for the lens inside the Pixel 4a?
    c) Are raw images 12 or 14 bit color depth?
    I would appreciate your answers. I don't know much about the tech used in smartphones and I get the feeling many mainstream RUclipsrs that cover cellphones don't seem to understand photography from a pro perspective since they never mention 35mm equivalent focal lengths or the range of adjustability in the apertures.

    • @TheProjectPhotography
      @TheProjectPhotography  4 года назад

      Hey thanks for watching. To answer your questions:
      a.) Aperture is fixed
      b.) Focal length is adjusted to a 35mm equiv (28mm)
      c.) I'm not sure about the color depth, I want to say its 12 bit? But I'm honestly not sure. There's no sort of metric that allows me to know.

    Is it just me, or does the panorama mode simply not work on the 4a. The resolution is so much lower. I expect the same resolution from each stitched image, as I get from a normal capture. My normal capture files are 12mp and even a very wide pano seems to result in only a 6mp image! I always hold camera vertical for a pano to maximise vertical fov. But, each of my pano images has a max height of like 1600 pixels ! Should be well over double that... Please can you review this, or maybe suggest a setting I've missed?

Maybe even not in a 4K video, cause of the RUclips compression?

      I'm definitely considering making a side by side comparison with a digital camera and the pixel 4a, I think that'd be a very interesting video to make. With that being said some of the differences that I can see deal with color depth, tonality, sharpness, overall resolution, and micro contrast. They become quite apparent once you've been around cameras for a while. To the average person it's most likely not as apparent though.

      I don't have much experience with either device, but to me the more manual control the better. It's all about the experience and if you can greatly increase the joy of user experience through such ventures then I'm all for it, but with that being said they're still smartphones and have their given limitations. It's still nice to see manufactures making strides to make the photography experience as nice as possible.

    The question is not whether the pixel 4a can replace professional cameras. Nobody actually expects it to be comparable to them. No one is going to buy this phone to replace their professional cameras.

    You didn't try the Astrophotography or the shadow and exposure controls.

    • @TheProjectPhotography
      @TheProjectPhotography  4 года назад +1

      No I didn't try astro photography, I only tried the night mode on the camera and have very positive things to say about it. My main reservation about astro on the Pixel 4a is simply that I can't stack images or blend them so the ending result wouldn't be any good, to me atleast. I did use the shadow and exposure controls before taking photographs and I mean they work like they're supposed to, but generally I don't mess with them as I shoot RAW and could edit them after if I really needed to. Also the auto exposure works very well so no need to mess with shadow or exposure.

    Good video, honest. Obviously the photography is not at professional level, you can't have both worlds, bur for 90% os the regular people, it's great, a lot easier to use and cheaper to buy than buying a semi-professional camera, with very satisfying results and amazing convenience. Even at night. Let the pro equipment for people who can use it's capacities properly.

    I'm having trouble taking videos, the pictures after down loading are boxed or pixelated . I was hoping you would discus the adjustments this /phone has and the best adjustments to put into a computer. And it was nice of you to shorten the video but as soon as I seen you with a mask on when no one was around, I went quickly to 13:23, you are hypnotized by a political element and as I suspected you are not a FACT BASED person. What makes the camera so great would have been worth watching.

    there is no way on earth a phone camera can replace a proper camera. if you ever look at the photos out of the camera, on a monitor or a bigger screen, photos are flat, not sharp. colours are off. grainy. not even close to a proper camera

    I don't understand why Google makes phones so expensive.
    The pixel5 is very expensive, more than € 600.
    Google should sell the cheapest mobiles since they obtain from us all the information that we give them without charging anything.
    the Pixel 4a is missing a wide angle lens
