A very fair comparison between the Z6iii and the Z6. Having recently made the move myself, I have to agree with almost everything you say. The new Z6 is an absolute joy to use even if one can get a bit lost between all the new options at hand now. Somehow I like the simplicity of a Leica menu. But what matters in the end are the results.

That overlook and lake are my favorite spots in Yosemite! Tuolumne Meadows up the road is amazing too!

If it's a macro lens then going 1/2 works but non macro lenses DOF falls 1/3 in front of and 2/3rds behind the focal plane

The dynamic range chart mostly has to do with noise so it's got 2/3 stop worth more noise in the shadows. But if you shoot RAW anyways and clean up in post, the dynamic range is identical to its predecessor. This is assuming the 14bit photos the camerss take. 14bit = 14 stops MAX. What you mean to say was that the signal to noise rationis worse, which is true. But in video mode, since all mirrorless cameras with the exception of xh2s readout in 12bit instead of 14bit for a faster readout speed, the dynamic range becomes capped at 12 stops. This means all modern mirrorless cameras have the exact same DR limits in video. So when limited by 12bits, the much bigger differentiator becomes acquiring codec used and read noise. Don't let marketing or peoples interpretation of charts fool you. That camera is a PHENOMENAL beast. In my opinion it's it's top 2 out right now

So i was watching a channel that said one of the clips they were showing on this channel, supposedly a certain type of camera lense could see other dimensions. Im trying to find out the truth. Any insight?

The 14-30 produces beautiful lightstars - the 12-24 not!! Important for long exp nighttime shots. Also I love the rendering of the 14-30 better than the 12-24 or the 17-28. My HOLY TRINITY as a landscape photographer: 14-30mm f4 24-120mm f4 also okay for portr. 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 VR The 28-400mm is a really bad lens!!!! Very poor colors and contrast, lots of CA, not very sharp - and lens creep right from the start, not after one or two years. The 24-200mm is much better, also not perfect but much better.

What lens would you suggest for Astro, that’s not so expensive? A sigma, maybe? I also shoot w/ a Z6iii

I the key rub with the loss of DR is we have traditionally not had to give back any performance when upgrading to new model. A more useable electronic shutter is nice but not what I need. I really only need the Zf's performance with the good old BSI sensor and Expeed 7 AF goodness. I don't need the retro controls or weight. Maybe they will bless the update of the Z5 with that give me what I really need.

My usual combination is the 28-400 combined with the 14-30 f4. If I am not weight-constrained and shooting indoors, I try to use the 20, 50, or 85 f1.8primes or the 70-200f2.8.

No... You can't make a focal length longer, it's called cropping and you lose details. Buy a tele converter (slightly softer image) or other lens with more range.

With my Nikon ZF I have radically changed my approach to lenses . So, my go to lens for 80% of my shooting is ‘Nikon 24-120 F4 S . for landscape I have a manual focus 15mm F4 7Artisans and for telephoto I use with ftz adaptor Nikon AF-S 200-500 mm F5.6-6.3 (also have 35mm viltrox f1.8 AF, 85mm Meike f 1.4 AF for when I need more bokeh / portrait /party and finally a 45mm f0.95 Laowa Argus for those specialist arty / low light occasions )

My trinity are all third party, the Sigma 20mm f/1.4, Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8, and the 200mm f/2 VR

I find it odd when people refer to the holy trinity as only those three 2.8s. Like you can’t divert from that or something. On DX my trinity was the 12-24/4, 17-55/2.8, and 70-200/4. Now on FX, it’s the 18-35/3.5-4.5, 24-120/4, and the third option I am still debating. Either the 70-300/4.5-5.6, or the Tamron 100-400/4.5-6.3. The issue with a long lens on FX is, it becomes so big and heavy. I travel with my gear so I’m not always happy with the compromise. Sometimes I think, DX with a 70-300 is not bad either.

My current Nikon Holy Trinity for landscape photography: 14-30 F4 S, 24-120 F4 S, 100-400 F4.5/5.6 VR S. Eventually I plan to upgrade the 14-30 F4 to the 14-24 2.8. 😁

I would love a 24-70mm f/2.8 - it has such a nice look, probably the microcontrast as you mentioned...I'm broke, so my whole kit is just a Z6 with 24-120mm, Viltrox 40mm, Viltrox 85mm and Nikon AFS 50mm f/1.8 (very underrated). The 24-120mm is incredibly versatile - I shot a wedding with just that recently, it would have been hard with just a 24-70. I've also got a vintage 105mm Nikkor, but I don't use it much now I've got the Viltrox 85mm with AF

My holy trinity changes, but it always has a wide angle zoom, a general purpose zoom, and a prime. When I used the EF mount, my HT was the 16-35mm F2.8 L, the 24-105mm F4 L, and the the 70-200mm F2.8 L. When I switched to the F mount, my HT used to be the 28-300mm F 3.5-5.6, the 17-35mm F2.8, and the 56mm F1.4. Now on the Z mount, my trinity still includes the 17-35mm F2.8, the Z 24-120mm F4, and the 100mm F2.8 MC. And while I am amazed by the IQ of the 24-120m I find myself gravitating towards the 28-400mm F4-8 just for that outstanding focal range even at the expense of IQ just for the convenience, especially when traveling.

Budget trinity

My nikon landscape trinity is the 17-28 f2.8, 24-70 f4 S, and the Tameron 100-400 with the FTZ adapter. I would love to trade up to the Nikon 100-400 S but it's so expensive.

The DR is not a problem for My use case so I am happy and do not care about the bashing that is going on (sad that they have nothing better to do) (maybe it would be better to only have one camera manufacturer, They could charge huge prices, and then nothing would change ???????) I'm not worried about dynamic range because I have a z8 for landscape. But if I'm in a high dynamic range scene I'm going to bracket my shots and blend the exposures anyway. I want the same focus tracking my z8 has. And I want to be able to shoot in burst mode without screen blackout like u have on my z6 II. I know there's a slight blackout with the mechanical shutter on the z6 III but that's probably from the shutter opening and closing. I'm more concerned with how it displays in the EVF when you're shooting in burst mode. Right now is a toss up between the z6 III and the zf. I've gotten into street photography so that body draws to me. It'll be next year before I make a decision if I even make one.

I don’t care about “hate” or “love” about a camera, or a camera name (like z6iii). I was simply waiting for a new 24 mpx camera with a good autofocus (z6iii is ok), a good dynamic range for wedding (z6iii is not a good option for a white dress under the sun), a good performance in low light (and the z6iii fails again). So maybe I will stay with my d750 ad z6i. Sorry, but this camera is non sense for me. “Half stacked” sensor is non sense. The result is this hybrid camera that’s a sort of experiment for this temporary sensor, but is not really good in photo ad in video. That’s just Nikon nonsense. IMHO

I have a z8 and a z6, the highlight recovery on z8 is noticeably better than the Z6.

The camera is just fine.

What is your opinion? Does Z8 Mark II got tilting screen or fully flippy screen?

6:22 - funny, from what I have read, the Electronic shutter and Mechanical shutter should not differ at all in dynamic range on a Z6III. Would love to hear more on that.

I'm a bit flummoxed by this review. You say the 14-30mm is 4mm wider? Not on a DX body, it's not. It's 2mm narrower.

dynamic range isn’t the only aspect of how a sensor performs in image quality. There is a reason why we all desided bsi/stack, despite having impact on dynamic range, is still remarkably better than fsi sensor. z6iii is just half a stop worse in dynamic range than zf/z6ii at low iso. It is not gonna be noticeable to 99.9% of human being.

You don’t even one the 14-24, but you’re giving advice on whether to buy it. Obviously a noob. The photography youtube space is a joke.

This video is confusing. Everyday Nikon Z6 series was never meant to be first choice for landscape photography, it was Z7/D850 series (now also Z8) with more megapixels and native ISO 64. Z6 III borrows speed and video from bigger brothers, sacrificing little bit of image quality in 100-800 ISO range. In higher ISO scenarios relevant for speed and video, dynamic range is comparable or the same. Nikon Z7 II or Z8 would be much better landscape cameras.

Before I got my D750, I used a D7100, and before that a Pentax K-3, which was also APS-C. For travel, landscapes, etc. Aside from the D7100’s noise banding, I’ve never felt that it wasn’t good enough for pulling shadows. And the K-3 was great. And the Z6 III outperforms that camera even at ISO 100. Less noise is always better of course, but based on my usages so far, I would be happy to use the Z6 III for all kinds of photography including landscape work.
