This one gets me EVERY TIME!! Kathy was one of the most underrated female vocalists in country music during her era. She had several hits and just was soooo good.

Starting in the early 2000s, my wife and I had something we did every Valentines Day for several years. We'd play a VHS tape that had an interview with Kathy Mattea about her career, plus some BTS concert footage, plus music vids of four of her songs (all positive)... the first one was "18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses," and the last was this one. And after that, we'd play a tape of Mel Gibson's "Forever Young" (1992). The ending of that film is beautifully shot and a real tear-jerker. Plus it was special for me because my dad was born in 1907 (like Gibson's character in the film) and died in 1992, and when Gibson was in his 85-year-old makeup he looked startlingly like my dad did.

I had forgotten this song and this artist. I love both.
My father died suddenly in 1983. He had just turned 48. I have memory issues myself, and don’t remember everything. I don’t remember his voice, but I know the songs he sang to me. Music keeps him close.

Thanks Nick! This song reminds me of my Dad and his struggle with Alzheimer's. My Mom took care of him at home until he became too physically weak for her to handle 😢 She visited him in the Memory Care Center almost every day. He eventually passed away from the disease. It was heartbreaking for me and my sister to see him go from a strong, vital man to being ravaged by the disease and not know who we were. Sooo sad 😢

Kathy Mattea is a great singer. I'd forgotten how great since it's been a while since I've heard her. Now, I'm trying to figure out whether to call what I'm doing sobbing or ugly crying. Wow!

Beautiful song! Brought me to when my father died a few years back! My Mom is lost without him, they were together 70 years! I was lucky that he lived to 90 and Mom is still here with us she will be 95 this October! Dread the day when she will be gone too! Thanks for sharing this !

Kathy Mattea said in an interview once that the music executives, producers, or other singers did not want this song recorded for fear of ruining their careers. Kathy went on to record it and changed to peoples lives and minds to get the message about Alzheimer's in the spotlight. She said this had to be done. So glad she did.

I think music just gets to the core of our humanness telling us that we truly are the same. How else is it that we all react deeply to it? Hugs Nick. Thank you for bringing this song back into my life. I had forgotten it.

After my mother passed, i was going through endless boxes of papers of all kinds. I found a paper written by my grandmother before she died at 91 years. It was "Our Love Story".
When she was 16 years old, she was the daughter of high society. She met a young man of 19. He was a brawler found in bars who made a living off the sweat of his brow and had very little to his name.
Her parenrs hated him on sight and forbade her to see him. Their efforts to keep them apart failed. As they refused to permit their daughter to marry the town thug, the two conspired to elope. They were walking hand in hand down the (then) dirt road from Fort Payne, Alabama west.
Coming in the opposite direction in a horsedrawn carriage was the Pastor of her church.
He sized up the situation then told her that he coukd not let them go and live in sin.
My grandparents were married in the middle of a dirt road. As in the song, they never spent a night apart until they could no longer keep house. They were put, literally, in separate beds on separate floors. He gave the staff fits by sneaking down to her room.
Everyone felt she would go within days when he died at 91, but she lived three more years
This song reminds me of their lives.
They had nine children all at home. My mom was number 7.

Written by John Vesner, her husband. Awarded Song of the Year. I looked for a reaction to this specific song. Alzheimers took one each of my grandparents. They were inseperable.

Kathy Mattea (ma-TAY-ah) is a great female country singer. This song causes me to tear up / cry every time when I hear it. Her husband, Jon Vezner, is a talented songwriter and singer in his own right, not as famous as his wife.

Wow you do reactions but while you are reacting you are reading, how do you give an honest reaction while your mind is actually focused on reading?
