Thanks for the info & time to make the video... Very useful! This could save me the time and hassle to hook up generator to power storage tank discharge pump for just short power outages and small water needs...
The Excelsior E2 has become quite an elusive animal. Are there other brands and styles of rotary, or semi-rotary hand pumps that could serve the same purpose, in the same way? Thanks!
Thanks, for posting: A Hand Pump for Shallow Water sources. Always, some great ideas & how to videos coming out of engineer775PracticalPreppers home workshop. :)
What is the actual model of this pump? I can't seem to find this on the internet. Very interested in using this if things get so bad this year that no power for water in our shallow well.
You have some great ideas. Happen to have one for getting water from your well with no electricity with an electric pump on the end of it. It's about 75 feet deep?
wow, this is surprising! my grandpa has one in his weekend house to pump the rainwater from the tank up to the attic water tank. but the consensus in the family is that the pump kinda sucks, so we preffered carrying 10l buckets of water up the stairs, if not using a generator and a pump... i remember this kind of pump being the last, last option to consider....
Outstanding love your channel. Knowledge even the remote is strength. As always, thanks’ for taking the time to make this video! And I support this site. ~M~
Would be nice if you mentioned your static water level (well) has to be at about 20' at near sea level. And what you can do if you have a deeper well and/or higher altitude.
Excellent video , very clear . I will use a similar system for a boat , no electricity and enough pressure for a shower and kitchen sink. Do you know what is the maximum PSI that you can get in your set up? Thanks
Awesome! Can this be connected with my existing shallow well water system? In between my jet pump and sediment filter to use it during no electricity situations? Thanks for the video.
so, this pump is not designed for potable water? I bought it because I wanted to make sure my family had drinking water but it appears you have to filter it after the pressure tank? Is that because of the mineral oil?
How did you securely mount your rotary pump to the fence? - Does that model have built in brackets or did you engineer / purchase a mount that would fit most rotary pumps?
Outstanding system, you are a fountain of knowledge. Would you recommend this pump to feed from a pond that needs about a 20-25' lift to the house _(Do you have an accurate way to measure lift over distance?)_? If so, would one use a floating strainer at the pond; then several pre-filtration steps, then check valve, before hitting any ceramic filter? I suppose a floating supply line _(PEX?)_ in the pond would freeze solid, perhaps the inlet should be below any potential pond ice 12">?
Thanks this might be what I am looking for - will it pump water up a hill? My well is a near my home (about 3 or 4 tiles deep) but it down a slight hill. If power goes out will I be able to pump water to the house/bladder? Must I prime it?
Hey Tim, Can you estimate the elevation from the top of your water to the bladder tank in your basement? The pump will suction lift 22 and after the pump lift 90 ft. You want to have a foot valve in the well. It is self priming. Send me and email if you want to work out the details of this.
Aloha. I like this. I had a brainstorm. Use (2) pumps. Mount them so the handles are sticking up, with foot rests mounted on opposite sides of each handle. Mount 2 seats, facing each other, so the pumps can be pumped by 2 people pressing with their legs, sorta like the Hobie Pelican Drives on their Kayaks. Mounting a center pivot point and a tie-bar between the (2) handles would allow 1 person to pump it, the resistance would be greater as it is only 1 person pumping and each extension of each leg would be actuating both pumps during a power stroke. But with 2 people, it would be very little effort and you are effectively using the largest, most powerful muscle groups in the body. Peace & Prepare Pax et Paro
Interesting video. I have a question, is this pump good enough to pump water from a second floor to a tank in a third floor? Is it strong enough to handle aprox 6 to 8 meters up? Thank you.
This looks like an amazing alternative. I want to install this in my cabin in New Hampshire. At the start of the season and end of the season using a electrical shallow pump is not a good option How could I keep the pups from freezing?
engineer775, you mentioned that you only pumped for a min and got that good sample pressure, I think you said the bladder tank can handle 80psi. question does the pumping of handle give more resistance as you get near the max psi? can you feel it so as to not over pump? I am hoping the answer is yes, but would like confirmation.
Maybe I don't understand this fully, but Why would you want to shower or consider water as "Potable" from a catchment system (ie rain barrels) or swimming pool, (especially after the summer season and a few rain storms) ? Wouldn't it need to be pre-filtered? Not pre-filtering it I would be afraid to run water with any type of possible sediment thru an expensive pump for fear of destroying it
At the end of the video I put a picture of a system for filtering the water to make it potable if the source is not. Whole house filtration from any water source! If your source water is bad you can surely pre-filter it. My raincatchment system I am connecting it to has 4 ways of prefiltering. Rain harvesting ... It's about time I did this! Hope that helps.
engineer775 Practical Preppers Thanks Scott, I'll check those two videos out. I have a catchment system now, but only minor pre-filtration. Would like to have a passive way of purfication to make it potable
hi!i'm just wondering ,how can you connect the metal to pvc pipe ?cause i'll try to connect it but it keeps cracked the pvc plastic w/thread on it,can you pls..reply and tell me how to do it right PLS..thank you and i will appreciate your tips..once again thank you...
Is this pump self-priming? What about a situation where the well is shallow, but away from the house, and below it? Thank you for the video, useful and informative as always!
It sure will. Here are the numbers depending on your elevation. ALTITUDE SUCTION LIFT Sea Level 22.0 ft. 1000 ft. 20.8 ft. 3000 ft. 18.4 ft. 5000 ft. 16.0 ft. 7000 ft. 13.6 ft. 9000 ft. 11.2 ft.

Have one ordered from Ontario. Works great
You always have great ideas on getting water one way or another. Have a Great Day.
We must have water! :)
that is really cool I have never seen a pump like this one. great video
Thanks for the info & time to make the video... Very useful! This could save me the time and hassle to hook up generator to power storage tank discharge pump for just short power outages and small water needs...
It will work and a lot less money than a generator and fuel.

Been looking for a pump like this as well due to it being out of stock on practical preppers. Any luck finding anything?
@@moonlight5252 You can search after Japy pumps either ; they are very similar in conception.

This is the "Excelsior E2" pump.
Ordered mine from Ontario Canada we r in New Brunswick it was Owen sound area in ontario
Just installed mine, amazing that it pressurized to 30 psi faster than the electric well pump
Pretty sweet, didn't know you could do this :D
Thanks, great setup
I like this! You are so full of interesting data.
Thank you sir! my pleasure
This is absolutely awesome!!!
I am interested in the idea of Rain Catchment. This great! thx for posting.
Thank you for sharing this I believe this is the tool that would work perfectly with my setup.
Let me know if I can help.
Nice handy pump to have around just in case!
You have some great ideas. Happen to have one for getting water from your well with no electricity with an electric pump on the end of it. It's about 75 feet deep?
My well is 280 to 300 ft. deep can you suggest the best way to get the water into my home without electricity?
You probably need a deep water pump like the Simple pump or Bison Pump, this only works with a static water level down to 40'.
Excellent! Thank You!
wow, this is surprising!

Wow..I've been looking for this pump all over the internet. Thanks for the video..where can I find it?
Can it be mounted horizontal so the handle is up and down?
This is very interesting, I like this pump! How far will it pull water up from a well do you think?
22 suction lift - 90 ft after the pump.
Ok, thank YOU engineer775 Practical Preppers!
Engineer775 can i use this type of pump on a drive point well?
@@engineer775do you have anything that can do a static level of 80-90’?
Will this work for a deep well? What would work for a deep well?
No, you'll need a deep well pump,.like a bison pump, or simplepump
Very helpful thank you
Great info! I have to say though, it was a little mean to make the dog get up, he looked like he was quite happy until you hosed him. LOL

Hello!! Can you please tell me where to buy this pump online?
good work. thanks for sharing . I want to ask. How much pressure is required to make ceramic filter to work well.
thanks for posting
Could this rotary pump draw water through 5 meters of pipe?
how do you keep your hair so neat is it a toup ? seriously love your vids. thanks for the info.

Are water and mineral oil won't mix as you pour in from the top?

great hardware
that it is.
Is there a cheaper version of this that would work?
Can we install a ram pump instead of the bladder tank.? Is that possible?
I can't find this pump. Is there a current model?
@John Michael Thank you. It was the Excelsior part that did the trick.
If you know. Where can I get one in canada?

Is there a diagram for this system? I'm interested in putting this together for an off the grid home.
Yes. email me and I will send you a diagram. info@practicalpreppers.com
Hey, sent you an email! Looking forward to that diagram and starting to go off the grid!
is there deep well solution?
Could you please kindly indicate with is the output pressure this hand pumps can offer?

I want to put this on my shallow well. How shallow does the well need to be? And do I place it between the Electric pump and tank?
How shallow does the well need to be, mine is no more than 30'
Where do you get the pump?

Nice!
Is this use any electric or machine
No
Where can we pick one of these pumps up? I searched google/amazon. Thanks.
Best part of having a dog is messing with them some times.....they love it too.
where can you get one of these?

What contitues "shallow" in a well? less than 10ft?less than 50?
less than 25 feet from pump to water.
Thanks Good to know..
Do you think someone could integrate an old sewing machine foot pedal with this pump? Might need a little gearing down.
I was thinking pedal driven with a connecting rod. Need water? Go ride the bike!
this pump has a vertical suction lift of 7 meters and a head height of 25 meters FYI
Wow! That's a $500 pump!
More than 700 in 2024!
Your using pvc I thought pvc has chemicals inside of pipe cpvc is better its made for drinking water ?

It is self priming. MAx suction lift is 22ft
You could put it on a wagon and use it as a fire truck with 3-4 rain barrels.
beautiful bangs
Would this pull water from my drilled well (60 ft) if I hooked it up prior to my bladder tank?
my well is down 14 feet ,,,will pump that deep,,jim
It sure will. Here are the numbers depending on your elevation.

1000 ft. 20.8 ft.
3000 ft. 18.4 ft.
