    The short story is that even though the modified Onza was light, I had this even lighter 2004/5 Koxx Beleay frame lying around so I wanted to see how light I could go. With the weather being a bit crap lately I'm forced to go indoors at the Scottish Biketrial Club HQ just south of Glasgow.
    This is a private address so you can't just turn up when you want but if you do want to organise a visit then please visit the website below and use the contact page to get in touch.

    Huge thank to Finn and David for letting Fraser and I ride there during the day and to Fraser for his help filming.
    Maybe a high bb frame next to compare with this low one?
    Thanks!

    I rode in the 2006 Worlds in Rotorua NZ (a truly humbling experience). The highlight was watching Kenny, Vincent, Benito etc absolutely dominate the competition on these bikes.
    Following day I happened to be in a bike shop in town and Marco Hosel was in there. He had just won the 20” elite on his XTP. He was doing a tour around the country in a campervan and was trying to sell his bike to help his funds. The shop weren’t interested (they had no idea who he was or what the bike was) but I told him there and then I would take it.
    It was an amazing bike. My first 20” and so light and responsive. I ended up cracking the chain stay but now it hangs pride of place on my garage wall.

    Great seeing Frazer get involved. Because he is well comfortable on a bike with his own area of expertise, this shows If nothing else the next level that you and other like you operate at. ❤

    Thanks Ali. I thought the camera reproduced a very realistic feel with the indoor lighting. It was natural and captured the texture of the dusty barn. Interested to see how it performs under other conditions, maybe a night session?

    This place kinda reminds me of the one Tarty Bikes' staff used to film their videos. That was prolly 15-17 years ago stuff. Good old days 😊

    Great riding there from all of you. Lucky Frazer didn't break a leg in that slip. Camera. last clip was totally OK but the others were ok as well. I'm considering this camera myself.

    Dude that bike club looks awesome! I’m from the US and it’s really interesting to see such a cool but foreign type of riding supported so much in Scotland. Hope you’re having a great day Ali!

    Footage looked alright to me!
    I get what some are saying about the sound, loud brakes are always going to be loud tho eh!? Can’t imagine using compression would help much, and I could hear what you were saying just fine.
    Looking forward to a visit to the clog soon!
    Good sesh lads!! 🤙

    Could you do a Video about setting up V-Brakes for Trials? What Pads to use, what to keep in mind ?
    I ḿ absolutely fascinated by you riding V-Brakes.

    Great skills man 🎉.. I'm no trialer.. but now that I own the third bike in my life ever, and now it's an awsome one 😅, I watched some stuff on YT to handle it right.. I absolutly liked the two videos I'd seen, where you precisely explained the techniques of drops, endos and bunnyhops.. I'm sure it'll help me a lot.. ❤
    I'm sorry, I won't be able to help you out on your questions for this video.. (no native speaker - maybe understand just the half and no expert on filming 😢)
    One question, may I?:
    Now I saw your shoes and I'm wondering, if they are barefoot. Can you please name them or leave a link? If they're not too.. I'm just asking, bc the guy who sold me my new bike, told me also to buy some good shoes for good grip on the flat pedals and stability and not to destroy the material of the loved one shoes.
    Thank you. Good job in teaching. Keep on going. 😊

    Frazer looks way more comfortable on the comp. Same as he did on the mod in one of your other videos... Maybe it's time he gets on a long stem. (pun intended) He was also inches away from breaking his leg on that fall!! 😬

    Awesome! I always used Magura rim breaks, but seeing this I'm really tempted to try out rim brakes. Do you have any reccommendations about cables and outer cables?

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  5 месяцев назад +6

      Give it a try! Just like a hydraulic rim brake needs some modifications to work for trials (different fluid, pads etc) the same applies to v brakes too.
      Cable is super important, you want a linear cable that doesn’t compress…I use oversize Shimano gear cable (tartybikes sell it) which works very well. Inner cable isn’t as important, I just bought a bulk amount of cheap inners and it feels great.
      A dab of gt85 down the outer helps too and then get yourself some decent pads, I use home made ones but TNN pads are great too

    Camera comment. I think the light through the slatted wall was giving the camera trouble. It did not seem to be adjusting the brightness well. Other than that, it was good enough. By good enough, I mean that it was not distracting from the riding. The wall/brightness effect was distracting from the riding. I suspect like all gear it has strengths and weaknesses. A bit like how you described BB height for the gap and later the hook. Nothing is ever perfect in all situations. Hope that helps.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  5 месяцев назад

      This was a tough challenge for any camera, even my eyes struggled in-person with the slotted light!
      I’m hoping it’ll be decent when I film solely outdoors. No doubt a bigger camera would look better but for sheer convenience and features I really like action cameras

    I'm not sure if the new camera is to blame, but sound wise this video didn't turn out great. Sounds to me like it could do with some commpresion / leveling and or multiband compression. Don't get me wrong I like good brake squeel, but in this vid brakes sound loud and sharp, while talking is quiet and muffled. Riding great, nothing wrong with picture, sound meh. If you'd like to go down the rabbit hole of of audio processing I might be able to help with the initial overload/confusion.

    I also prefer V brakes until the industry killed them for disc brakes and hydro stuff...they are not the most efficient brakes but they are powerful enough for my riding style...these days, getting a brand new frame with V brake studs, are almost impossible!

  • @dansacco1964
    @dansacco1964 5 месяцев назад +1

    All I could think about was that cracked fork when you were working on the static hook. Glad you changed that. Unfortunately the camera was not so good. It seemed to really struggle with the backlight coming through the wall. It was hard on the eyes. Whatever mode you were using outside seemed like the frame rate couldn't keep up and also washed out whenever the sun wasn't blocked. Still better than a friday without an Ali vid. Glad Frazer is ok after falling into that pit of treacherous doom. Looked like a hard spot to bail without getting a leg twisted.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  5 месяцев назад

      To be fair the slotted light was super harsh in-person too, I struggled so it’ll be a real big challenge for the camera.
      Outdoors seemed good when the light was good, I think if I used Pure Video mode outdoors too it might’ve been better.
      No doubt a bigger camera would look better but I just love the sheer convenience of coming with an action camera!
