In medical contexts, particularly when discussing conditions like sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, it’s essential to refer to biological sex rather than ‘sex assigned at birth.’ This is because the increased risk is linked to biological females (XX chromosomes) and hormonal factors like estrogen that affect the biliary system. While inclusivity is important, forced use of ‘sex assigned at birth’ can lead to misinterpretation. The focus should remain on biological sex unless the patient presents intersex characteristics, where a different medical approach might be required.

I’ve suffered with this for over 20 years, just getting ready to go to a new primary care doctor after I move. I am shocked to see that still, nitroglycerin is not routinely prescribed for people who suffer from this horrible condition! I’ve had the sphincterotomy. I was episode free for almost a year. And then, just like before, they came back, usually after eating high, fat meals, or, cherries, or even large apples. The Nitrostat, .4, knocks the episode out in about two minutes. Then my daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer and put on a keto diet. As I was cooking for her, I went on the diet as well, and then, no more episodes!it’s been six years. Normally I would have one or two episodes in a month. I wish somebody would do some research, on keto. I actually found the Nitrostat treatment on a European blog. How sad that people are still suffering needlessly😢
